Alvin Kamara, Bijan Robinson both limited on updated Saints-Falcons injury report

Thursday’s update to the Saints-Falcons injury report listed both Alvin Kamara (hip/ribs) and Bijan Robinson (shoulder) as limited participants at practice:

Let’s start with the good news from the latest New Orleans Saints injury report. Only three players weren’t participating at Thursday’s practice session after a staggering crowd of nine were listed on the injury report to start the week. Linebacker Demario Davis (hamstring) and right guard Cesar Ruiz (knee) remained sidelined with wide receiver A.T. Perry (hamstring) now joining them after practicing fully on Wednesday.

Now the bad news. Davis and Ruiz would both be substantial absences if they can’t play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. And Perry wasn’t the only wide receiver dealing with an injury on Thursday. Veteran backup Cedrick Wilson Jr. was limited with an ankle issue.

So let’s bring it back to the positives. Star running back Alvin Kamara (hip/ribs) practiced on a limited basis after being held out on Wednesday, and nickel corner Alontae Taylor (illness) saw a full day’s work after missing the week’s first practice, too. They’re both trending into the right direction.

Things are looking grim for Atlanta. Right tackle Kaleb McGary (knee) wasn’t able to practice again, and two others were limited for the first time. Both running back Bijan Robinson (shoulder) and linebacker Matthew Judon (hamstring) had to cut back their workload on Thursday. Left tackle Jake Matthews missed practice with a personal day.

We’ll learn more on Friday about who may be unavailable this week. Here’s the full injury report from Thursday, Sept. 26:

Bijan Robinson did something no Falcons RB has done since 2011

Bijan Robinson accomplished something that no Falcons running back has done since 2011…

Bijan Robinson has made a strong impression in his second season with the Atlanta Falcons, earning plenty of praise from analysts, the coaching staff and his teammates alike for his versatility.

Robinson has the trifecta of skills desired by modern-day NFL running backs. This involves playing the traditional role of the position on the ground, functioning in the passing game and being an effective, willing blocker.

The former Longhorns rusher earned recognition for his blocking in the team’s 22-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Robinson is already on a historical track this season, as the team’s first running back to top 100 scrimmage yards in the first two games of a season since 2011.

The last Atlanta running back to achieve this feat was Michael Turner over a decade ago. So far this season, Robinson has totaled 165 rushing yards on 32 carries, with 9 receptions on 10 targets for 68 yards.

“I thought the blocking he did the other night was incredible,” offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said earlier this week. “Him being able to close the space on some of those linebackers and show what he can do in pass protection is as valuable as anything, but he’ll just continue to get better.”

Expect Robinson to continue to dominate as he and the Falcons face the Kansas City Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. ET in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night. Make sure to check out our Falcons Wire Week 3 game picks.

Falcons RB Bijan Robinson doing whatever it takes to win

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is doing whatever it takes to help the team win

Bijan Robinson played a key role in the Atlanta Falcons recording one of the most thrilling victories we’ve seen thus far in the 2024 NFL season. The second-year running back did a little bit of everything in Sunday night’s 22-21 win over the Eagles.

“Just putting it on them from the beginning — running the ball, catching the ball out of the backfield, doing the dynamic stuff God blessed me to do to help this team win,” Robinson said after the game.

Robinson’s versatility was on display in Week 2 as he racked up 122 all-purpose yards, but he may have impressed his coaches with his blocking ability more than anything else.

“Watching him step up and make that big-time block when Mooney got the touchdown on a zero blitz,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said. “Watching him step up there and put his face on a defender who was rushing was absolutely outstanding. Or watching him help, when he blocked on the right side on the chips block.”

Robinson finished out the 22-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles with 97 rushing yards on 14 carries, also tallying four receptions for 25 yards. Through the first two games of the season, he’s amassed 165 rushing yards on 32 carries with nine receptions for 68 yards.

Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is looking forward to seeing Robinson’s continued progression as he adapts to the NFL game in his second season.

“Bijan, I thought he saw the game really well,” Robinson said Wednesday. “He was hitting everything that was there. I know he feels like he left a couple things on the table just in terms of attacking the third level of the defense, but those things will come with more reps. Just getting used to the game flow and how the speed of the game is.”

Robinson echoed Morris’ thoughts on Robinson’s blocking, which will continue to be an asset.

“I thought the blocking he did was incredible. Him being able to close the space on some of those linebackers and show what he can do in pass protection.”

Robinson and the Falcons will look to keep the momentum going on Sunday night when they face the visiting Kansas City Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. ET in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It wasn’t the most explosive first half, but Philadelphia rode the emotion of Nick Foles’ retirement and a raucous crowd to keep Atlanta out of the end zone late in the first half. The Eagles hold a 7-6 lead heading into the second half.

Playing without A.J. Brown, Philadelphia used a DeVonta Smith touchdown catch to establish a 7-3 first-half lead before the Falcons pulled within one.

WATCH: Falcons running back Bijan Robinson was mic’d up for Sunday’s loss to the Steelers

The Atlanta Falcons are 0-1 after Sunday’s 18-10 loss to the Steelers, but there were some things the team can build around heading into Week 2 Running back Bijan Robinson rushed for 68 yards on 16 carries, adding five catches for another 43 receiving yards.

Robinson’s 111 all-purpose yards led the team in Week 1. While this may not have been the kind of breakout performance fantasy players were hoping for, the second-year running back did everything he could to help Atlanta’s struggling offense in Sunday’s opener.

The team’s passing attack struggled as quarterback Kirk Cousins never looked comfortable in his first game back from a torn Achilles. The Falcons passed for just 155 yards on Sunday, especially struggling in the second half. Robinson was the team’s only consistent threat in Week 1.

The former No. 8 overall pick was wired for sound on Sunday. Watch the full “mic’d up” segment below, as shared by the team’s Twitter account.

Falcons RB Bijan Robinson, LB Nate Landman earn top Week 1 grades

Falcons RB Bijan Robinson, LB Nate Landman earn highest grades in Week 1 loss to Steelers

The Atlanta Falcons failed their first test of the 2024 season, and the schedule will only get tougher in the coming weeks. Sunday’s 18-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers wasn’t the start Falcons fans were hoping to see, but there were some encouraging performances.

Running back Bijan Robinson was one of the team’s few offensive bright spots in Week 1, racking up 111 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Atlanta struggled against the run but came up with some big stops in the second half to stay in the game. Linebacker Nate Landman made a huge play to bring down Justin Fields on a fourth-down QB sneak attempt.

Landman timed the snap perfectly and leaped over the line of scrimmage to stop Fields short of the first down.

Robinson and Landman earned the Falcons’ highest Pro Football Focus grades in Week 1. Landman’s 88.3 overall grade led the team while Robinson wasn’t far behind with a grade of 87.

Linebacker Troy Andersen (79.3), safety Justin Simmons (77.3) and cornerback Kevin King (76.6) rounded out the top five for Atlanta in Sunday’s opener. Landman and Andersen split time next to Kaden Elliss at inside linebacker. Andersen was listed as the starter on the depth chart, but Landman played five more snaps (37 total) in Week 1.

Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud earned a respectable grade of 72.4. Quarterback Kirk Cousins didn’t fare as well in his Falcons debut, earning the second-lowest grade (42.1) on the team. Cousins threw one touchdown and two interceptions on Sunday.

Atlanta has an extra day to prepare for next week’s Monday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. If the team can’t turn things around then, it will only get tougher against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3.

Kevin Durant hypes up Falcons’ Bijan Robinson: ‘He’s an insane player’

Kevin Durant hypes up Falcons RB Bijan Robinson: “He’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen with my own eyes”

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson has plenty of fans all around the country, including a few notable celebrities. Hollywood movie star and University of Texas superfan Matthew McConaughey is one of Robinson’s biggest supporters. Add NBA superstar Kevin Durant to the Falcons running back’s list of admirers.

Durant, like Robinson, is a former Texas Longhorn who was drafted with enormous expectations. The Olympic gold medal winner recently expressed his admiration for Robinson during an appearance on “Up & Adams” with NFL analyst Kay Adams. Durant recalled seeing Robinson play at Texas and being blown away by his talent.

“He’s just a natural at it,” said Durant. “Like he runs the football and it don’t even look like he’s running full speed. He’s just gliding out there. He makes moves and can stop on a dime. He’s an insane player. He’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen with eyes.”

Atlanta drafted Robinson with the No. 8 pick in 2023 and despite a solid rookie year, the team couldn’t get over the hump to reach the playoffs. Now with a new head coach and quarterback to help take the pressure off, Robinson is in a position to really take off in 2024.

Fantasy football fans are probably aware of the hype surrounding Robinson. ESPN has Robinson ranked as the No. 2 overall player behind Christian McCaffrey entering the season.

With a Marshall Faulk-like skill set and an impressive array of weapons on offense, don’t be shocked to hear Robinson’s name mentioned in the MVP discussion (before the league awards this year’s top quarterback).

Where should you draft Robinson?

Robinson’s fantasy value should get a boost this year with the arrival of QBs Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr., who was drafted with the 8th pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

Robinson will become even more of a threat on the ground now that he has experience at the pro level and will also become a bigger threat in the passing game, which adds tremendous value when drafting him. With an offense that includes WR Drake London and TE Kyle Pitts, Robinson will play a key role on the team.

Draft Robinson in the 1st round as soon as McCaffrey is off the board. He’s good for 1,100 yards and 10 TD, an expected jump from his rookie year stats. He’s even more valuable in PPR leagues because of how often he’s targeted.

NFL analyst explains why Falcons RB ‘in perfect situation to thrive’

CBS Sports explains why Falcons RB Bijan Robinson is in a “perfect situation to thrive” this season…

The Falcons are going into the 2024 NFL season as one of the league’s most intriguing teams. While not much has changed personnel-wise on offense, the addition of quarterback Kirk Cousins has elevated expectations for the entire team.

Cousins’ presence on offense will greatly benefit his teammates, including wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts. Both players have been limited by poor quarterback play over the last two seasons. Falcons running back Bijan Robinson may actually benefit the most from the team adding Cousins.

The second-year ball carrier, who rushed for 976 yards and an additional 487 receiving yards as a rookie, could take his game to another level playing behind a competent QB. CBS Sports‘ Garrett Podell listed Robinson as one of 10 offensive players who are in the “perfect situation to thrive” this season:

Bijan Robinson produced a strong rookie season with 1,463 scrimmage yards, the second-most the most among rookies in Falcons history. He can be even better in 2024 with a quarterback defenses have to respect in four-time Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins, someone who unlike Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke, will prevent defenses from selling out and loading the box to stop the run.

Robinson will also have an offensive coordinator in Zac Robinson who will center the offense around his singular talents instead of trick plays for tight end Jonnu Smith. — Garrett Podell, CBS Sports

Having a more versatile offense should bode well for Robinson. Opposing defenses actually need to worry about Atlanta’s passing game, which can create more running room for the former Texas star. Couple that with a new offensive coordinator in Zac Robinson, and we expect a more dynamic overall unit in 2024.

He’s a mastermind when it comes to football,” proclaimed Robinson during a training camp interview with Kay Adams. The Falcons’ new offensive coordinator even told his star running back that he intends to use him in a similar role to that of 49ers RB Christian McCaffery.

If the team can finally take that next step on offense, Atlanta has a real shot to take home its first division crown since 2016.
