A pair of Nebraska Cornhuskers earned All-Big Ten Tournament honors for their performances on Sunday afternoon.
Husker guard Jaz Shelley and forward Alexis Markowski were both named to the All-Tournament team, along with Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, Michigan’s Laila Phelia, and Iowa’s Sydney Affolter.
Shelly averaged 20.5 points per game in the Big Ten Tournament, including a 30-point effort against Maryland in the semifinals. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. In the championship game, Shelly put up a valiant effort of 16 points, 13 assists, and six rebounds. She also had two steals and two blocks in the losing effort.
Markowski also had a fantastic championship game performance, scoring a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds. She also had five assists and two steals.
For the tournament, the Huskers’ star averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, which is better than her season averages of 15.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per contest.
While the Huskers’ championship game loss will sting, they must quickly turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament. On Sunday morning, the latest bracketology from Charlie Creme of ESPN projected the Huskers as the eighth seed in the Portland regional.
