Michigan State basketball will open up conference play this upcoming week

Michigan State basketball will open up conference play this upcoming week, so it’s only fitting we get an updated batch of power rankings from David Klein of Spartans Illustrated.

Klein released his “FINAL Pre-Szn B1G (Basketball) Rankings” on Sunday, and he has the Spartans near the top of the league. Klein broke up the power rankings into tiers and has the Spartans at the top of the second tier (Conference Contenders). Overall, Michigan State is listed at No. 5 of 18 teams in Klein’s rankings.

Michigan State is currently 6-2 overall and coming off a strong showing in the Maui Invitational. The Spartans finished in third place in the loaded event, which included a marquee win over North Carolina in the finale.

Michigan State basketball opens conference play with a road game at Minnesota on Wednesday. From there, the Spartans will host Nebraska on Saturday.

Where Andy Katz ranks Ohio State basketball in his latest power rankings

Not bad for the Buckeyes as they enter the thick of their conference schedule

It has been a resurgent year for Chris Holtmann and Ohio State basketball, as it has gotten off to a fast start with a 11-2 record.

Although the Buckeyes have a solid record, they have yet to be ranked in either major poll, behind three other Big Ten schools. That didn’t matter much to Big Ten Network’s Andy Katz, as he sees the top of the conference a bit differently than the rankings do.

Ohio State has been led by its sophomore tandem of Bruce Thornton and Roddy Gayle Jr., and solid transfer additions in Jamison Battle and Evan Mahaffey. Find out below where Katz ranks each conference school in his first power rankings.

See where Michigan State lands in our final batch of Big Ten basketball power rankings for the 2022-23 season

The Big Ten basketball season is officially over and the rest of college basketball is only a few days away from concluding the 2022-23 season as well.

The final team left standing from the Big Ten this year was Wisconsin in the NIT semifinals — losing to North Texas earlier this week. The last team standing in the NCAA Tournament — which is honestly more important — was our very own Michigan State Spartans.

Michigan State was the only Big Ten team of eight that were in the NCAA Tournament to make it out of the first weekend, eventually getting knocked out in the Sweet 16. So does that mean the Spartans end the season as our top-rated team in our weekly power rankings? Let’s see below..

Before we turn our focus to the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago, which begins on Wednesday, let’s see where Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten teams land in our final power rankings:

It seems like Michigan State is continuing to find ways to infuriate the fanbase.

The Spartans were a minute away from clinching a big-time road victory at Iowa on Saturday and capping off an incredible week of basketball. However, a historic collapse by the Spartans resulted in a foul taste in the mouths of for everyone supporting the green-and-white.

It was a tough week for Spartans everywhere — on and off the court.

It resulted in Michigan State’s matchup against Minnesota getting postponed and a highly-emotional battle against rival Michigan on Saturday, which the Spartans lost in the final minutes.

Things can change fast from week-to-week in the Big Ten.

A week ago, Michigan State looked in a lull after another disappointing loss. However, this past week fortunes changed for the Spartans with a pair of big-time victories.

The same kind of whirlwind — both good or bad — can be said for other teams in the Big Ten, including Rutgers, Indiana and Northwestern. See where the Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten teams land in our latest batch of power rankings:

It was another frustrating week for the Spartans on the hardwood.

Michigan State looked poised for a big-time victory over Rutgers on Saturday but as we’ve seen a lot lately, they couldn’t finish the game strong enough to earn the win. It was yet another blown opportunity for the Spartans and they’ll again be in a must-win situation against Maryland on Tuesday.

With Saturday’s loss to Rutgers, how far do the Spartans drop in our weekly power rankings? See where the Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten teams land in our latest batch of power rankings:

Big Ten Power Rankings: MSU drops after another embarrassing blowout loss at Purdue

Will Michigan State win consecutive games again this year? It’ll probably happen but it didn’t this week.

It was another up-and-down week for Michigan State, who picked up a much-needed win over Iowa on Thursday but followed it up with an embarrassing performance at Purdue in a blowout loss. The Spartans have dropped four of their last six games and haven’t won consecutive games in over three weeks.

While Michigan State fans are frustrated with the recent stretch of play, it could be a lot worse — just ask Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan who all find themselves near the bottom of the league. On the flip side, Northwestern, Indiana and Illinois have ascended in our weekly power rankings after strong play as of late.
