AEW Collision results 09/09/23: Jade returns, Strong, Joe advance

This week’s AEW Collision also saw Ricky Starks escalate things even further with Bryan Danielson and the BCC thanks to some Big help.

If we had a dime for every time some wrestling show was called the start of a new era … well, we wouldn’t have all that much money, because dimes aren’t worth too much in 2023. But we would have a lot of dimes, which isn’t nothing. Yet that actually applies to AEW Collision this week in Cleveland.

An argument could be made that the new, post-CM Punk era of Collision actually started last week, since he was fired the day before. It’s just that Tony Khan was still in full explaining mode that night in Chicago, and though the Young Bucks appeared on that episode, it’s not likely that he had his full plans in place for a brand that was essentially built around Punk.

He’s really gone now, though, so Collision will look different going forward. For tonight, it means settling who’s moving on from the semifinals in the Grand Slam World Title Eliminator tournament. Plus Jon Moxley will defend his AEW International Championship against Action Andretti.

AEW Collision results 08/19/23: CM Punk has a surprise for Samoa Joe

AEW Collision from Lexington made one more match official for All In and several matches for All Out as well.

Even though we’re only eight days away from what is being billed as the biggest event in pro wrestling history, one gets the impression that the card isn’t quite finalized just yet. Fortunately, there are several AEW shows between now and then, one of which is AEW Collision tonight in Lexington.

The home of the Kentucky Wildcats won’t see too many big matches, though the main event between Darby Allin and Christian Cage is definitely intriguing. For a completely different reason, plenty of eyes will be on the segment where we’ll hear from FTR. It should be a talking point, let’s put it that way.

  • Samoa Joe is supposed to have a squash match with “The Golden Vampire,” who stuns him with a quick assault and a GTS … then reveals himself to be CM Punk, who says “I accept, bitch” to Joe’s challenge for a match at All In

AEW Rampage results 06/09/23: Skye Blue soars to title opportunity

See who emerged as the No. 1 contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship on AEW Rampage.

It’s time to find out who’s going to be next to challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

There are a handful of wrestlers with their eyes on Storm’s title, so the easiest way to settle the pecking order among them is to throw them into one match. Naturally.

That happens tonight on AEW Rampage, with Britt Baker, Skye Blue, Mercedes Martinez and Nyla Rose all vying for the title shot. Logic would dictate that Baker will win, both because she’s the highest profile competitor and is part of an ongoing narrative with Storm and The Outcasts, but you never know.

This episode of Rampage will also have a couple of intriguing trios matches (any night where Rey Fenix and The Acclaimed are all competing is a good one) and Powerhouse Hobbs will be in action as well.

So even though I’m personally invested in and distracted by Game 4 of the NBA Finals (#BringItIn), I’m looking forward to this Rampage as well. Let’s see what we’ve got.

AEW Dynamite results 05/31/23: Britt, Adam lower the Boom, CM Punk confirmed

Get filled in on all of the action from AEW Dynamite in San Diego.

AEW Dynamite usually promotes a bunch of matches and segments well ahead of time. For tonight’s show in San Diego? Not so much.

That’s not to say we didn’t have any advance notice about what’s on the card. For instance, the mixed tag match pitting Adam Cole and Britt Baker against Chris Jericho and Saraya was advertised last week. And after his dramatic betrayal of The Elite Sunday at Double or Nothing, we knew we’d hear from Konosuke Takeshita (and, sadly, Don Callis).

But the rest of the slate was a mystery until this afternoon. Now we know some more of the matches, starting with a title defense by a champ whose reign has only been a few days. TBS Champion Kris Statlander has issued an open challenge, and it was answered by Nyla Rose.

Other wrestlers who were prominent at Double or Nothing will also be in action. The Blackpool Combat Club is undoubtedly riding high after defeating The Elite, but they’ll have to be on top of their game to defeat the Lucha Bros. and Bandido. Swerve Strickland, Big Bill and Trent will collide in a three-way dance, and Orange Cassidy will team with Darby Allin to face the Gates of Agony.

So that’s a lot more info than we had before. Plus we haven’t even gotten to the thing that has been the subject of equal parts excitement and eye-rolling, another announcement from Tony Khan about the debut episode of AEW: Collision next month. Will he confirm the participation of a certain Mr. Brooks? And will anyone be salty if the announcement is anything else?

AEW Rampage results 05/26/23: Tag teams, trios take the pre-Double or Nothing stage

Check out the action from the final AEW Rampage before Double or Nothing in Las Vegas.

Maybe because AEW PPVs are several months apart, it sometimes feels like the stretch run to each one is longer than it should be. But that’s behind us now as Double or Nothing is Sunday night, meaning tonight’s episode of AEW Rampage is legitimately the last stop before the big event.

Unlike previous years, AEW chose not to do a live Rampage for Double or Nothing week this time out, meaning there are spoilers out there for what’s going to happen. Nevertheless, just like we did for the other wrestling show on TV tonight, we’re going to happily live blog this like it’s unfolding in real time. You can indulge us that, yes?

What we know is that this is going to be a tag team-heavy hour of action. The Acclaimed, who went from being the hottest duo in the sport to a bit of an afterthought as of late as a trio, will face a trio from Le Faccion Ingobernable. A big battle in the women’s division will see Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida join forces to battle Nyla Rose and Marina Shafir. And Best Friends will go up against a tag team that used to be part of The Firm but seems to be sticking together anyway, Big Bill and Lee Moriarty.

AEW Rampage results from Las Vegas:

  • Max Caster gets in a Fight Forever mention in his entrance rap and says Rush’s hair looks like pubes

  • The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass def. La Faccion Ingobernable by pinfall
  • After the bell, Anthony Bowens says they’ve been running through the trios division all month long so they’re looking to challenge House of Black on Sunday
  • Ethan Page and The Gunns def. Frescomatic, Watson and Jeaux Braxton by pinfall
  • Page says he hopes the Hardys were watching as they just showed the world what a real trio can do, boasting about taking out Brother Zay and implying their match will be three on two … but Matt and Jeff say they’ll delete those egos Sunday, but even though Brother Zay isn’t cleared for Double or Nothing, he’s found a replacement: Hook; the heels want no part of them for now

AEW Dynamite results 05/17/23: Hangman sides with The Elite, spelling Anarchy for the BCC

This week’s AEW Dynamite includes a big women’s tag team match and Roderick Strong vs. Chris Jericho in a Falls Count Anywhere match.

When someone says you’re more than a friend to them and are indeed more like family, it takes a special kind of jerk to betray them in a very public and violent fashion. Don Callis is proving to be exactly that kind of jerk, which is relevant for tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite from Austin.

See, Callis turned on Kenny Omega in the middle of a Steel Cage match, making him bleed with a screwdriver and gift-wrapping a victory for Omega’s bitter rival, Jon Moxley. So far, he hasn’t explained himself, but he’s supposed to tonight on AEW Dynamite.

Other parts of tonight’s show will need much less exposition. For example there’s no mystery about why Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida and Jamie Hayter want to get their hands on The Outcasts. Heck, the only thing to wonder about is why it took so long (OK, probably because of the need to wait for Shida to return, but still).

Similarly, there’s not much mystery around why Ricky Starks is eager to step in the ring to face Jay White, or why Roderick Strong is sticking up for his friend Adam Cole to the point where he’s facing Chris Jericho in a Falls Count Anywhere match. The battle lines in these programs have been pretty well drawn.

There’s also a good chance we’ll find out more about the big wrestling news of the day, which was the official announcement of AEW: Collision. Will there be another name revealed as a star for the new show? A certain Second City Saint, perhaps?

  • Paquette tells Cassidy 20 people asked for a shot at his title, so he says he’ll fight them all in a 21-person (including him) battle royal for the Intercontinental Championship

  • Tony Khan promotes the June 17 premiere of AEW: Collision, including the fact that the first few shows will be in Canada
  • Roderick Strong def. Chris Jericho by pinfall in a Falls Count Anywhere that ranged all over the arena and eventually outside the building, meaning Adam Cole could lend a hand … which he did

AEW Dynamite results: Hobbs grabs the ring, Danhausen is clutch, MJF is speechless

Get live AEW Dynamite results for March 1, 2023, with the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match and Casino Tag Team Battle Royale.

Sometimes AEW just mashes the gas ahead of a pay-per-view and it’s kind of bonkers for the better part of a week. That feeling is setting in again as the Cow Palace welcomes the final AEW Dynamite ahead of Revolution this weekend.

That card, as you might have heard, will be headlined by a 60-minute Iron Man match between MJF and Bryan Danielson with the former’s beloved Triple B belt (better known as the AEW World Championship) at stake. It’s only logical, then, that both men will be on tonight’s show to have what’s certain to be one more explosive face-to-face meeting before they go to war on Sunday.

There’s also going to be a wild match tonight that is usually part of Revolution proper. Perhaps because the main event is going an hour, the Face of the Revolution Ladder match got bumped to free TV. That’s good news for anyone tuning in tonight, however, as it’s sure to be something of a spectacle.

Another Revolution bout that still needs to have its last question mark replaced is the four-way tag team championship match. We’ll find out who’s joining The Gunns, The Acclaimed and Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett in that one after the Casino Tag Team Battle Royale on Dynamite.

Oh, and there are two championship matched tonight as well. Orange Cassidy gets a (very) big test in the form of Big Bill to retain his All-Atlantic Championship, while Hook puts his FTW Championship on the line against Matt Hardy.

Opening Bell: Pre-Revolution AEW shows, Roman Reigns scheduled for SmackDown

Get set for the week in WWE and AEW with Opening Bell: quick previews of Raw, SmackDown, Dynamite and Rampage.

Welcome to the Opening Bell, where we round up what’s been announced for WWE (Raw and SmackDown) and AEW (Dynamite and Rampage) programming for the week we’ve just begun.

WWE Raw preview – Monday, Feb. 27, Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Mich.

WWE has blessed us with a lot more insight into what to expect this Monday than some weeks, when it’s like three hours before the show and there’s been one match and one other segment promoted. For Grand Rapids, there’s much more starting with a tag team title match pitting Becky Lynch and Lita against Damage CTRL. Lita with WWE gold in the Year of Our Lord 2023 would be pretty wild, but we’re close enough that it feels quite possible.

Speaking of things no one saw coming, Omos‘ challenge to Brock Lesnar falls into that same category. The Nigerian Giant is awaiting a response, so we’ll see if the Beast Incarnate shows up to give him one this week.

Who’s ready for Asuka? Carmella claims she is, but that might not actually be the case since the Empress of Tomorrow is acting spookier and more unpredictable than ever. We’ll see what’s what when they compete on Raw.

  • The Miz will host a WrestleMania edition of Miz TV and perhaps discuss his own plans for the Showcase of the Immortals

AEW Dynamite preview – Wednesday, March 1, Cow Palace, San Francisco

Though there are no actual cows at the Cow Palace, it’s certainly a historic venue and a fitting one for the final Dynamite before Revolution. As such, it’s a loaded show that will answer who will be the Face of the Revolution with the ladder match of the same name. A bunch of big and intriguing names are in it, with Samoa Joe on commentary, so it should be fun.

Another bout that could be high on entertainment value is the Casino Tag Team Battle Royale. This one will have a direct effect on the Revolution card, as the winning team will be entered into the four-way dance for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

And if you want a final dose of dueling microphones before the PPV, you’ll get it for the biggest match on the card as MJF and Bryan Danielson will get their final say. The champ, as he is wont to do, took things too far last week, which led to punches being thrown. We’d be shocked if there wasn’t a high chance of that happening again this Wednesday.

WWE SmackDown preview – Friday, March 3, Capital One Arena, Washington D.C.

The nation’s capital plays host to SmackDown this week, and the big news is that Roman Reigns is scheduled to appear. The Tribal Chief has been sitting in the background watching drama continue to swirl around the Bloodline even after he defeated Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber. What will the champ have to say?

A pair of women’s matches have also been announced for the show. Rhea Ripley, who is pursuing the SmackDown title at WrestleMania, will battle Liv Morgan in a match that Charlotte Flair will no doubt be watching closely. AEW Rampage preview – Friday, March 1, Cow Palace, San Francisco

Two nights before Revolution, AEW Rampage is live from the Cow Palace. Live editions of the show are always that little bit better than the recorded ones, and this should be no different.

No matches have been announced yet, but that could change even prior to Dynamite this week, so keep an eye on AEW’s social media accounts for some hints on what will be offered up this Friday.

AEW Dynamite results: Top feuds heat up in Phoenix

Get live AEW Dynamite results for Feb. 22, 2023, with a tag team battle royale and Tony Khan delivering “an important announcement.”

Phoenix, get ready to light the fuse. Less than two weeks out from AEW Revolution, Dynamite is coming to us from the Footprint Center with a show that will hopefully set up more of the PPV card — or at least get us much closer to some confirmed matches.

There are, so far, just four announced bouts for San Francisco. One of them is a four-way battle for the AEW World Tag Team Championship, which was only recently won by The Gunns. The Acclaimed, the prior champs, will be in that match too. One other team will be decided tonight in a Tag Team Battle Royale, which could be amazing, a mess or some combination of the two.

Jon Moxley already has a dance partner for Revolution, but he’ll be in action tonight against Evil Uno. Hangman Adam Page wanted the Dark Order to stay out of his fights, but Uno reverted to his previously more assertive personality and took this one, so … whatever happens is on him, we guess.

Saraya doesn’t have a match set yet for next weekend, but she’s been at the very center of the “homegrown vs. not from here” dynamic that’s been sweeping the women’s division for weeks. She’ll take on Skye Blue in Phoenix, but with all respect to Skye (who we really like), all eyes will be on who else might try to play a role in or after their match.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention that Tony Khan is said to have an “important announcement” for this show. While there are a bunch of fun things it could be (CM Punk is returning! Jay White is on his way! Forbidden Door 2 is happening!), it would arguably me most satisfying if it simply solidified more of the Revolution slate.

Welcome to the Opening Bell, where we round up what’s been announced for WWE (Raw and SmackDown) and AEW (Dynamite and Rampage) programming for the week we’ve just begun.

WWE Raw preview – Monday, Feb. 20, Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa

Sami Zayn came up short in his heroic effort to topple Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of Canadian WWE stars hunting for gold.

After surviving the Men’s Elimination Chamber match with his United States Championship intact, Austin Theory felt good enough to issue an open challenge for this week’s episode of Raw. As fate would have it, the challenge was answered by Edge, who must be feeling good himself after a victory over The Judgment Day in Montreal.

Since Theory has been on a quest to put anyone he considers the past beneath him, he should really enjoy this … unless he loses, of course. We’ll find out Monday night.

The other match WWE has promoted will see Mustafa Ali go up against Dolph Ziggler. Ali has been adamant that Ziggler keeps getting opportunities not afforded to him, then refused to team up for the recent tag team tournament. Can he pay Dolph back in Montreal?

AEW Dynamite preview – Wednesday, Feb. 22, Footprint Center, Phoenix

When Tony Khan talks, the pro wrestling world usually listens. AEW’s CEO, GM and Head of Creative is teasing an important announcement for this week in Phoenix, which is sure to be the subject of much speculation over the first part of this week.

Several matches have been advertised for this week’s show, starting with Orange Cassidy defending his All-Atlantic Championship against Wheeler Yuta. Jon Moxley will take on a suddenly more assertive Evil Uno, while Skye Blue tries to upset Saraya. Last but certainly not least, The Acclaimed will go up against Big Bill and Lee Moriarty.

Perhaps the most interesting one, however, is a tag team battle royale. One duo will emerge with a shot at The Gunns at Revolution, except it will only be one of three other teams facing the tag team champs there. Got that?

Oh, and there are some non-match segments to look forward to in Phoenix for good measure:

WWE SmackDown preview – Friday, Feb. 24, Ford Center, Evansville, IN

It’s not unusual for WWE to play things close to the vest about SmackDown the week after a premium live event, which is the situation we’re in now. One match we know will take place in Indiana will see Karrion Kross face off again with Rey Mysterio, as their “hey that’s right, they’re still feuding” bit continues.

It’s worth noting that SmackDown has been the primary driver of the Bloodline story for the past few months, so the fallout from Elimination Chamber at the top of the card is likely to hit here. That alone might be reason enough to tune in Friday night.

AEW Rampage preview – Friday, Feb. 24, Footprint Center, Phoenix (recorded on Feb. 22)

Another week, another time where we don’t have any pre-announced matches for Rampage. We’re coming up quickly on Revolution, however, which means this week’s show could be more significant than most pre-recorded episodes. Keep a close eye on Dynamite on Wednesday to see what ends up being revealed.
