Prediction

Lakers 122, Thunder 98

Moneyline (ML)

The Thunder come off of Monday’s 90-88 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers as whopping +425 underdogs. The Lakers will win this game as the superior team in all areas of the floor, but the -589 odds are far too chalky with a $10 bet returning a profit of just $1.70. It’s not worth even the incredibly low risk.

The Lakers have won four straight games and are 7-1 at home for the season. Additionally, they last played Sunday in a 122-101 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The have the skill, home and rest advantage over a Thunder squad now 0-5 on the road following Monday’s loss.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The LAKERS (-10.5, -115) are 9-4 overall against the spread and 6-2 at home ATS. The Thunder are 8-5 overall and 3-2 on the road after covering Monday against the Clippers.

Los Angeles outscores its opponents 110.8-100.6 points per game with OKC losing by an average score of 105.8-105.6. The Thunder have played two back-to-backs so far this season and lost the second half each time.

Take the home side ATS with the same $10 bet returning a profit of $8.70 should the Lakers win by a minimum of 11 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 210.5 (-106). The low projection reflects the tired Thunder and their low 90-88 score against the Clippers Monday night, but the Lakers will approach 120 on their own and easily put this one over the number.

LA is just 6-7 against the Over/Under on the year and falls an average of six points shy of the projection, but it hit 120 points in three of its last four games. OKC is now 5-8 against projections while falling an average of seven points short. It put up 119 points in two of its last four outings.

Prediction

Suns 110, Celtics 102

Moneyline (ML)

The SUNS are getting -154 odds at home against the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics. Boston is 5-2 away from home and coming off a 100-99 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday as it heads into the third installment of a five-game road trip. Phoenix is 5-3 at home and coming off of a 128-112 beatdown of the Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics are on the second half of a back-to-back while the Suns have been off since Thursday’s win.

Phoenix has had a well-balanced offense of late with four different leading scorers over its last four games. Boston has had three different point leaders over its last four games. The Suns lead the league with a true shooting percentage of 59.3 as a team. The Celtics rank 15th at 56.2%.

Take the home side for a $6.50 profit on a $10 bet.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The better play Monday is to take the SUNS on the spread of -3.5 (-106). They’ll need to win by just four points against a tired opponent for a $9.43 return on the same $10.

The Suns are 9-2 overall against the spread and 6-2 at home. The Celtics are 6-4 overall and just 3-3 as the road team. Phoenix covers the spread by an average of 8.6 points per game while Boston covers by 4.9 PPG. The Suns rank ninth in the NBA with a pace of 104.38 possession per game. The Celtics are 18th at an average of 101.67. Phoenix will be able to pull away late as the Celts tire out.

Over/Under (O/U)

Due to the aforementioned differentials in pace and the Celtics’ back-to-back situation, take the UNDER 225.5 (-115). The Suns are 6-5 against the O/U and top the projection by 3.7 points per game. The Celtics are 5-7 against the projected totals but top the number by one point per game.

Prediction

76ers 105, Magic 93

Moneyline (ML)

The Sixers are coming off an all-too-close 98-97 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. They improved to 4-0 at home with the victory but they now hit the road at 3-3. They’ve won two games in a row after previously beating the Charlotte Hornets 114-106. Philadelphia outscores the opposition by an average of 109.7-105.3 points per game.

The Magic are stuck in 13th in the Eastern Conference following last year’s surprising playoff berth. They’re 0-4 on the road but a respectable 3-3 on home court; however, they dropped a 109-102 decision to the Indiana Pacers at home Sunday. They’ve played tight games but have been outscored by an average of 99.3-98.1.

Philadelphia may be the tired team on the second half of a back-to-back with travel, but it’s also the far deeper team. Star PF Al Horford rested Tuesday, ensuring he’ll be ready to go Wednesday night with Embiid out of the lineup. Take plus money with the 76ers at +110 for the outright win.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Sixers fetches an $11 profit with a straight-up victory.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The 76ers are 5-4 against the spread overall and 3-2 as the visitors. The Magic are 3-6 ATS overall and just 2-3-1 at home. Side with PHILADELPHIA to cover a spread of just +2.5 with -115 odds. The same $10 bet returns a profit of $8.70.

The Magic are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record. The Sixers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss and 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Magic are the worst Over team in the league with a record of 2-7-1 against the projected totals and they fall an average of 10.6 points shy of the projected totals. The Sixers are 5-5 against the O/U but still fall 2.4 points shy of the projection on average.

Take the UNDER 206.5 (-115) with Philadelphia coming in without rest. This is its first back-to-back situation of the year.

Knicks at Bulls: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:55 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Knicks 103, Bulls 98

Moneyline (ML)

The Bulls are just 1-3 at home while the Knicks are 1-5 on the road. New York’s minus-10.1 average point differential is the worst in the NBA as it’s outscored 109.3-99.2 on average. The Bulls are minus-4.6 (110.0-105.4). Both teams come into Tuesday having lost their last game. The Knicks took a 108-87 loss at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday. The Bulls lost 117-94 at home to the Houston Rockets.

In a coin flip game between two bad teams such as this, it’s never a bad idea to chase the value. Back the KNICKS at +190 and make a profit of $19 on a $10 bet should New York come away with the outright road win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

There’s still value on the KNICKS on the spread of +6.5 with -121 odds. The same $10 wager fetches an $8.26 return if they stay within six points in a loss or win outright. The Bulls’ three wins all came by margins of at least six points, but they’re just 4-6 overall against the spread and 2-2 at home. The Knicks are 5-5 ATS and 4-2 on the road.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 211.5 (+105). The Bulls and Knicks rank 28th and 29th, respectively, in true shooting percentage at rates of 52.2 and 51.0%. The Knicks also play to the league’s fifth-slowest pace at 99.85 possession per game.

New York is 2-8 against the Over/Under and falls an average of 7.1 points shy of the projection. Chicago is 4-6 against the projected totals while falling five points below the projection.

Mavericks at Celtics: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Celtics 108, Mavericks 102

Moneyline (ML)

The Celtics come into Monday 3-0 at home and winners of seven straight games overall. They return to TD Garden after sweeping a three-game road swing, finishing it off with a 135-115 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Texas. Boston outscores the opposition by a league-best 9.3 points per game (113.1-103.8).

The Mavs are a perfect 4-0 on the road to start the year. They beat the Memphis Grizzlies 138-122 on the road Saturday after being upset 106-102 by the New York Knicks the night before on home court. Mavericks SG Luka Doncic has led his team in scoring seven of nine games and each of the last five. Boston had four different leading scorers over its last four games.

Roll with the CELTICS (-167) as they go for eight in a row in their return home.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on Boston to win outright returns a profit of $6.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get better value on the Celtics with the spread. Backing BOSTON to cover the modest -3.5 points at -115 odds returns a profit of $8.70 should it win by at least four points.

The Celtics are 5-2 against the spread on the year and 2-1 at home. The Mavs are 4-0 ATS on the road but oddly just 4-5 overall. All but one of Boston’s seven wins have come by margins greater than four points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Mavericks are 7-2 against the Over/Under and top the projected total by an average of 10.6 points per game. The Celtics are just 3-5 against the projections by they still top the number by an average of 0.2 points per game. Their 250 combined points with the Spurs Saturday were a season-high.

Take the UNDER 217.5 (-115). It’s a slightly contrarian play, but Boston and Dallas rank 17th and 19th, respectively, in pace. The Celtics average 102.56 possessions per game to the Mavs’ 101.93.
