UFC 264 Ryan Hall vs. Ilia Topuria: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Topuria (-225) is a rather strong favorite in his third fight at the UFC level. That’s just too risky. Instead, get a little more specific.

Topuria won his first seven fights as a pro by submission, and two of his past three via KO/TKO, including last time out against Jackson. He is fighting a guy who hasn’t fought in nearly two calendar years so TOPURIA BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+105) on the 5-way line is a much better value.

Over/Under (O/U)

It’s a little borderline expensive, but taking NO (-185): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a decent play. It’s a little more risky, but UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-140) is a better play as the fight should finish in the first 7:30.

TREVIN GILES (+100) enters this bout on a three-bout win streak, including a third-round KO/TKO against Bevon Lewis Nov. 7, 2020. He has been a punching machine in the UFC, and his only weakness has been his ground game, losing a pair of fights by submission to Gerald Meerschaert and Zak Cummings in 2019.

Du Plessis (-120) is a talented fighter that made his UFC debut with a first-round KO/TKO against Markus Perez Oct. 10, 2020. This is a big step up in competition for Giles. In fact, this is a rather attractive matchup, and it’s surprising it is so low on the card. It could easily be on the main card.

Over/Under (O/U)

There is a more than good chance this one doesn’t involve the judges, so NO (-130): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a strong play.

Only two of the seven fights for Giles at the UFC level have been decisions, while Du Plessis has had stoppages in all 17 of his fights as a pro – including his only UFC appearance.

Maia is hungry for a win after losing a unanimous decision for the strap at UFC 255 against Valentina Shevchenko. That loss followed up a first-round submission win over Joanne Calderwood, a rare stoppage. Five of her six fights at the UFC level have been decisions.

Eye lost to Calderwood last time out, and she has two straight unanimous-decision setbacks, as she also fell to Cynthia Calvillo in the main event on June 13, 2020. And if you’re looking to common opponents, Eye was knocked out in Round 2 against Shevchenko at UFC 238, too.

UFC 264 Jennifer Maia vs. Jessica Eye: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Maia 18-7-1 | Eye 15-9-0

Jennifer Maia (-200) is just a little more expensive than I care to spend on a money line wager as my usual limit is -180. My biggest concern is that both Maia and Jessica Eye (+165) usually get the judges involved, and I don’t want my wager decided by judges.

Five of Maia’s six fights at the UFC level, and nine of his past 10 professional bouts overall, have went the distance. Eye has decisions in each of his past three and 10 of her past 11 UFC fights.

As such, the better play is MAIA ON POINTS (+110) for me. Eye on points (+240) is also a better wager if you like the underdog, but I do not here.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS.

There is just no value here. I think this fight goes the distance, but Yes (-275): Will the fight go the distance? offers no value and a ton of risk. Over 2.5 Rounds (-300) is even worse.

Conor McGregor predictably acted out when he came face to face with Dustin Poirier after a raucous UFC 264 press conference.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Dustin Poirier[/autotag] and [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag] faced off for the first time ahead of Saturday’s UFC 264 trilogy bout following the pre-fight press conference.

After answering questions from the media on Thursday at T-Mobile Arena, Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) and McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) had the first of two fight week staredowns.

It was a raucous scene with fans in attendance, and McGregor brought that energy with him to the stage and threw a kick at Poirier, who kept his composure and continued to show he won’t take McGregor’s bait.

UFC president Dana White was in the center of the faceoff, which can be viewed in the video above.

UFC 264 will mark the rubber match between the two lightweight contenders after McGregor won the first meeting by first-round TKO at UFC 178 in September 2014, with Poirier taking the rematch by second-round TKO at UFC 257 in January.

Poirier enters this bout on a two-fight win streak after his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title bout on Fight Island Sept. 7, 2019 at UFC 242.

McGregor hasn’t fought since the loss to Poirier, and he enters this match just 3-3 across his last six fights, starting with a submission loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196. The rather marginal results have taken away some of the appeal of a McGregor fight, but he remains one of the top draws in UFC.

Conor McGregor to win +110 (2-way line or money line)

If you’re feeling McGregor in the trilogy fight, then he will jump off the page as a plus-money underdog. These two have swapped blood and sweat twice before, with each fighter winning via KO/TKO. Some might argue McGregor’s best days are behind him, but it’s still weird to see him as an underdog.

Conor McGregor by KO/TKO or DQ +140 (method of victory)

Win or lose, McGregor doesn’t usually see the judges get involved in his fights. His past four UFC matches have resulted in stoppages, and he won two via KO/TKO. In fact, seven of his past eight victories dating back to July 19, 2014, have resulted in knockouts, with two submission losses and a KO/TKO at the hands of Poirier last time out.

If you like McGregor to win, you also should like him to get the KO/TKO. If you bet this prop, you can fetch a $140 profit on a $100 bet.

Under 2.5 rounds (-140)

If you like this fight to end in the first half of Round 3 or earlier, playing Under 2.5 rounds is the way to go. As mentioned above, McGregor doesn’t usually go long into the night, and just one of his last four fights went into the third round. Nine of his last 11 bouts ended in Round 1 or 2.
