Prediction

Heat 105, 76ers 102

Moneyline (ML)

Both teams played Friday with the Heat beating the Chicago Bulls 116-108 on the road and the 76ers topping the San Antonio Spurs 115-104 at home. Miami has won five straight and Philadelphia is riding a three-game streak. The Sixers are 6-0 at home and outscore their opponents 110.1-106.3 overall. The Heat are 5-3 on the road and outscore the opposition 112.4-104.0 on the season.

The 76ers (-223) have the home-court advantage but the value lies with the HEAT (+180). Miami has the better offense and defense and enters the day on the longer winning streak. Take the money.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Heat to win outright returns a profit of $18 while the same wager on the 76ers would net $4.48.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The moneyline is much more appealing but the HEAT are still tempting enough on the spread of +4.5 (-106). Miami will need to either win outright or stay within four points in a loss for a $10 bet to return a profit of $9.43.

The Heat are 11-2-1 ATS overall and 5-2-1 on the road. The Sixers are 7-7-1 overall and just 3-3 at home. Miami covers by an average of seven points per game against Philly’s minus-0.8 margin. The Heat are 0-1-1 ATS on the second half of a back-to-back with the 76ers just 0-1, losing by 15 points to the Orlando Magic.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 212.5 (-115). Philly is 8-7 against the projected totals while topping the number by an average of just 0.3 points. Miami is 7-7 and falls an average of 2.5 points shy of the projection.

The two teams combine to average better than 222 points per game but their defenses allow just 210. The back-to-back situation for both sides will slow things down with starters likely to see fewer minutes.

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Knicks 107, Spurs 104

Moneyline (ML)

The Spurs have lost nine of their last 10 games while the Knicks have lost seven of their last 10. At least, New York has played a bit better at home while San Antonio has had trouble in the fourth quarter of almost every game during this bad spell. The Spurs have lost eight straight games during their current run.

Our pick is with the KNICKS (+110).

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on New York returns a profit of $11.00 with an outright win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Neither team has covered spreads well this year, but New York is 3-4 against the spread at home. San Antonio is 2-6 ATS on the road while falling nearly four points below the cover line.

This makes the choice somewhat easier. Back NEW YORK (+1.5, -105). The Knicks can win this outright in a close game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 220.5. The Knicks average just 101.9 points for per game, with the Spurs averaging 112.9 points per game. It could get dicey but the UNDER (-125) is the better play.

Previewing Friday’s Los Angeles Lakers at Oklahoma City Thunder sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

Lakers at Thunder: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Lakers 113, Thunder 102

Moneyline (ML)

With the LAKERS (-189) are an easy play at a relatively modest number as they’re expected to have the services of both Davis and Kuzma on Friday. The No. 1 team in the Western Conference is 4-1 on the road, and has won five straight games with all but one victory coming by a margin of at least five points.

The Thunder (+155) aren’t appealing enough at home, even though they are 5-3 there. They enter the day as losers of consecutive games against the L.A. Clippers and Lakers. OKC did win its last home game, topping the Philadelphia 76ers 127-119 in overtime. But this is a tougher test. The Lakers have the best point differential in basketball at plus-9.8. The Thunder have been outscored by a half-point per game.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager the Lakers to win would return a profit of $5.30.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Increase your profit margin by backing the LAKERS (-5.5, +110) with the points. A win by six or more will return a profit of $11 on a $10 bet, as opposed to the $5.30 reward on a moneyline bet.

L.A. is 9-5 ATS overall and 3-2 ATS on the road. OKC is 9-5 overall and 5-3 at home, but the Lakers cover by an average of 2.1 points per game to the Thunder’s 1.6 margin. OKC drops to 2-4 ATS when having the same amount of rest as its opponents. L.A. is 5-3 in those situations.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 210.5 (-110). Tuesday’s head-to-head meeting cruised past this number with a combined point total of 219.

The Lakers are 7-7 against the O/U overall, but they fall an average of 4.9 points shy of the projection. The Thunder are 6-8 against the O/U and miss the projection by an average of 5.8 points. But with both teams at full strength and well-rested, bettors should expect a higher-scoring affair.

Hornets at Wizards: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Friday at 1 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Wizards 123, Hornets 114

Moneyline (ML)

The WIZARDS (-278) are a safe choice Friday with both teams largely unaffected by injury and able to use their full lineups. Washington is coming off a 138-132 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday and is 2-3 at home. Charlotte is 3-5 on the road and is coming off consecutive losses to the Toronto Raptors (132-96) and Brooklyn Nets (101-91), both of which were on the road.

Both teams enter off a rest day, further allowing them to use their best players as much as possible. The Hornets’ average point differential of minus-7.9 ranks second-worst in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards are minus-1.4, but they score nearly 15 more points than the Hornets on average.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Wizards to win outright returns a profit of $3.60.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Save yourself some money on the required investment and back the WIZARDS (-5.5, -129) with the points. They’ll need to win by six or more for the same $10 bet to fetch a reward of $7.75.

Washington is 8-3 ATS overall and 3-2 on home court. The Hornets are 8-7 overall and 5-3 on the road. The Wizards rank fifth in the NBA with a pace of 105.08 possessions per game while the Hornets are just 23rd at 100.17 average possessions. Washington will be able to pull away late to cover comfortably.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total of 232.5 is the highest on Friday’s slate, but we’re still taking the OVER (-129). The Wizards are the only team in the Association allowing more than 120 points per game (121.1) and only the Milwaukee Bucks are scoring more than Washington’s 119.7 PPG. The Wiz are 7-4-1 against the O/U and top the projections by an average of 12.5 points per game.

Charlotte is 7-8 against the O/U while falling an average of 1.7 points shy of the number, but the Hornets are far from a defensive juggernaut (112.8 PPG allowed) and will need to play up to Washington’s pace.

Prediction

Clippers 120, Rockets 114

Moneyline (ML)

The Rockets are 11-4 on the moneyline while Los Angeles is 10-5. James Harden and Russell Westbrook clash with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in a star-studded matchup.

Our pick is with the CLIPPERS (-200) but very, very close.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Los Angeles returns a profit of $5.00.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Neither team has covered spreads well this year. Los Angeles is 8-7 overall against the spread while Houston is just 7-8. Houston on the road is a slightly worse 3-5 while Los Angeles is 7-3 at home and exceeds projections by 5.3 points per contest.

This makes the choice easy. Back LOS ANGELES (-4.5, -115). The Clippers could come close to or exceed 120 in this tilt and Los Angeles only needs to win by five or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 226.5. It seems like a low number given both teams’ propensity to score. Houston averages a ton of points while Los Angeles can top 120 routinely. It will be dicey but the -115 for the OVER is a manageable number.

Trail Blazers at Bucks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Bucks 115, Blazers 100

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks (-1000) enter as winners of five straight with the Trail Blazers (+625) dropping each of their last two. Milwaukee is 3-1 straight up at home and returns from a successful 3-0 road trip where it won each game by no fewer than eight points. Portland is 4-6 on the road (better than its 1-4 home record) but lost its last two games by a combined 35 points.

The Blazers had Wednesday off while the Bucks were taking care of the Atlanta Hawks (135-127). Even on the second half of a back-to-back, the Bucks won’t lose this game, but we’re not going to touch these odds.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Bucks to win outright returns a profit of $1.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The Blazers are 6-8 ATS overall, 5-5 ATS on the road. The Bucks are 7-7 overall and 2-2 at home. They are often favored by large amounts, but they cover by an average of two points. Portland falls an average of 3.5 points shy of the cover.

Milwaukee ranks first in the Eastern Conference and second in the NBA with an average point differential of plus-9.3, winning 119.6-110.3. Portland is outscored by 3.4 points on average with an average score of 115.3-111.9 in favor of the opposition.

Take the host BUCKS (-13.5, -106) with a $10 bet returning a profit of $9.43 should the hosts win by 14 or more.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 226.5 (-106). The over is 9-6 in Blazers games, topping the projection by an average of 1.7 points per game. The Bucks are 7-6-1 in favor of the over, clearing the number by an average of 4.8 points. The injuries for Portland and the back-to-back situation for Milwaukee will temper the scoring.

Pelicans at Suns: Odds, lines, picks, and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Suns 112, Pistons 103

Moneyline (ML)

The -200 line for the SUNS is probably a bit high with Rubio still sidelined, but New Orleans is just 1-5 away from home.

Phoenix is only 5-4 at home but has looked better of late and again gets a New Orleans team more banged up than itself.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Bulls to win outright returns a profit of $5.00.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The value play for this game is taking the SUNS with the -5.5 points at +105 odds. A Phoenix cover (win by six or more points) returns a greater profit of $10.50.

Phoenix is 9-4 against the spread (6-3 at home) overall this season and above the cover line by six points per game. New Orleans is just 2-4 on the road and falls an average of two points below projections.

Over/Under (O/U)

The bet would be a lean to the UNDER 234.5 (-115). With several more high-profile injuries, the game flow seems to indicate a lower-scoring affair. These two teams combined can barely muster 230 points per game.

Knicks at 76ers: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

76ers 118, Knicks 101

Moneyline (ML)

The Knicks are getting +500 odds as the visitors, which is nearly too tempting to turn down. New York is even coming off an impressive 123-105 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday, but it heads into Philadelphia with a 1-6 road record and is 0-3 against the Atlantic Division.

The 76ers (-714) are an unimpressive 5-5 over their last 10 games, but they’re a perfect 4-0 at Wells Fargo Center and dropped the same Cavaliers team 114-95 on the road Sunday in their last game. They’ll win this handily at full health in their return home, but there’s too much chalk on the moneyline. We’ll play the spread.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Sixers to win outright returns a profit of just $1.40.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The lopsided moneyline is reflected in the spread of -11.5 (-115) for the SIXERS. Take this bet with a high degree of confidence and expect the hosts to come away with a comfortable win by 12 or more points.

The Knicks are 7-7 against the spread and 4-3 on the road while the Sixers are just 6-6 overall and 2-2 at home. Philly outscores the opposition by an average margin of 3.1 points per game with the Knicks losing by an average of 7.1 points per outing. The hosts are expected to put forward a full lineup Wednesday after handing out rest days of late, and they’ll play their first home game in over a week.

The Knicks lost four of their last five road games by margins greater than 12 points, and they will once again in Philadelphia.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 213.5 (-105). The Knicks rank 29th in the NBA with a 4-10 record against the Over/Under and fall an average of four points shy of the projected total while the Sixers are 7-6 against projections and top them by an average of 0.2 points per game.

New York allows 108.9 points per game and Philly gives up 106.7 while scoring 109.8. This will creep just over the line as the 76ers cruise to victory and allow the Knicks to get some easy buckets in garbage time.

Warriors at Mavericks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11:45 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Mavericks 128, Warriors 98

Moneyline (ML)

The host Mavericks are laying -1000 against a Warriors (+650) lineup that’s a shell of it’s opening-day self. Green was able to play through a minor injury in Tuesday’s 114-95 road victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, but he could sit out the second half of the back-to-back. The Mavericks have won two straight home games over the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs to improve to 4-3 at home for the season. They were off Tuesday night.

A bet on the Mavericks to win outright at this price would return a profit of just $1. This line is approaching what we often see in lopsided college matchups. Pass on this and play the spread.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the MAVERICKS (-14.5, -105). The Warriors are 6-9 against the spread overall and 4-4 on the road. The Mavericks are 6-7 overall ATS and 2-5 at home. The back-to-back situation for the visitors along with the potential new absence of Green sways this heavily toward the hosts.

Golden State is outscored by an average of 8.3 points per game (117.4-109.1) while Dallas wins by an average of 3.3 points (114.1-110.8). The Mavs will cruise to the finish with several starters unlikely to see the floor in the fourth quarter.

Over/Under (O/U)

Following suit, take the OVER 215.5 (-128). The Mavericks will do the heavy lifting here in a rout.

Dallas ranks second in the NBA with a record of 9-4 against the Over/Under. Golden State is 8-7 with its opponents taking care of the majority of the projected totals in its games.

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:40 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Bulls 106, Pistons 103

Moneyline (ML)

The -115 line for the BULLS is not a hard one to take even without the presence of Porter inside.

This may be one of Chicago’s best chances to its losing streak. Detroit is 3-7 in its last 10 games and losers of four straight contests.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Bulls to win outright returns a profit of $8.70.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The value play for this game is taking the BULLS with the -1.5 points at -106 odds. A Chicago cover (win by two or more points) returns a greater profit of $9.43.

Chicago is only 3-4 against the spread at home but Detroit is worse on the road. Detroit is 1-5-1 away from home ATS.

Over/Under (O/U)

Lean slightly to the UNDER 220.5 (-115). Chicago plays a little more stout on defense and slows down a bit at home. It may be just enough to keep Detroit from scoring 110 points and makes the Under an easier proposition.
