TaylorMade acquires Logan Olson Putters, expands into high-end boutique market

To casual golfers, the Logan Olson brand may not be familiar.

In a move golf insiders have anticipated for nearly a year, TaylorMade Golf announced Tuesday it has acquired Logan Olson Putters. The deal brings Olson — known for its small-batch, artistically styled milled putters — under the TaylorMade umbrella as a sub-brand, much like Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red apparel and lifestyle company.

To casual golfers, the Logan Olson brand may not be familiar. However, the company has quietly developed a cult following among equipment enthusiasts and putter aficionados in recent years. When Olson releases putters, referred to as “batches,” quantities are limited, prices are steep (often $850 or more), and they tend to sell out fast.

Who is Logan Olson?

Logan Olson, 27, will remain the principal designer for the putters bearing his name. His company is based in Fortuna, California, more than 700 miles north of TaylorMade’s headquarters in Carlsbad. While Fortuna may seem off the beaten path for golf equipment manufacturing, Olson has built a reputation for his high-quality, blade-style putters through word-of-mouth, social media, and relationships with PGA Tour and LPGA players.

“It’s not every day you stumble upon someone like Logan. His ability to merge creativity with such a technical process is nothing short of remarkable. Whether you’re a professional on Tour, someone who plays the game for the sheer love of it, or even a collector with a keen eye for finely crafted putters, Logan’s creations embody a level of craftsmanship that resonates with golfers of all abilities,” said Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade’s vice president of product creation.

Why partner with TaylorMade?

The acquisition allows Olson’s company to benefit from TaylorMade’s operational and distribution channels, providing opportunities for growth. Additionally, Olson is expected to gain more access to feedback from TaylorMade’s staff players, further enhancing his designs.

In a press release, TaylorMade stated Olson’s putters would be added to the company’s Tour Matrix offerings, which are brought to professional events for player fittings and feedback.

Why does TaylorMade want Logan Olson Putters?

In the putter market, TaylorMade is known primarily for its mallets and multilateral offerings. The Spider series, in particular, has been a favorite of elite players, with major champions like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Nelly Korda, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia winning tournaments with Spider models.

While mallets have grown in popularity thanks to their forgiveness and stability, many top players still prefer milled blade putters. This category, dominated by brands like Scotty Cameron and Bettinardi, has proven elusive for TaylorMade despite previous efforts.

In the late 2000s, TaylorMade introduced the TP by Kia Ma line of milled stainless steel blades with Titallium face inserts, but the line was discontinued after a few years. In 2023, TaylorMade launched the TP Reserve line, which included milled blades and midsize mallets. However, these models have yet to make significant inroads on professional tours or in retail markets.

By acquiring Logan Olson Putters, TaylorMade gains a boutique brand already trusted by elite players. In the past 18 months, Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda have all used Olson putters in competition.

What’s Next for Logan Olson Putters?

Olson’s signature “Craft Batch” putters are small-run releases blending classic designs with highly detailed machining and artistry. These putters, typically priced at $850 or more, are as much collector’s items as functional golf clubs.

It’s expected that TaylorMade will eventually introduce a retail line of Logan Olson putters for specialty shops and golf stores. However, if prices remain in the Craft Batch range, sales will likely be limited to collectors and high-end buyers.

A more likely scenario involves TaylorMade mass-producing Olson-inspired putters at premium ($400+) price points while allowing Olson to continue crafting limited-edition models for the ultra-premium market.

For now, the acquisition marks a significant step for TaylorMade as it expands its presence in the high-end putter market, blending Olson’s artistry with the company’s manufacturing expertise.

PXG Tour Series Brandon, Brandon II Putters

These milled blade putters emphasize feel and control.

Gear: PXG Tour Series Brandon, Brandon II Putters
Price: $499.99 each
Specs: Milled 303 stainless steel with adjustable sole weights

Who it’s for: Purists and accomplished golfers who appreciate the classic look and feel of a milled, heel-toe weighted blade.

What you should know: PXG has introduced the Tour Series Brandon and Brandon II putters, catering to golfers who prefer traditional styling and performance over modern high-tech features.

The Deep Dive: In August, PXG released its most technologically advanced putter, the Allan which was lauded for its unique zero-torque balance and innovative alignment features. If the Allan were a car, it might be likened to a self-driving SUV—built for ease and comfort.

By contrast, the new PXG Tour Series Brandon and Brandon II are more like a Ford GT or a classic Chevy Chevelle SS — American muscle cars designed for those who love the pure driving experience. These putters are made for golfers who favor the timeless precision of a classic heel-toe weighted blade.

Both the Brandon and Brandon II are milled from blocks of 303 stainless steel. Unlike the polymer-backed inserts with pyramid face patterns seen in the Battle Ready II family these putters have milled steel faces, which deliver a crisper feel and a slightly higher-pitched sound at impact. For many golfers, this sensory feedback is exactly what they’re looking for.

PXG Tour Series Brandon, Bradon II
The Tour Series Brandon and Brandon II have clean looks and a single black alignment line. (PXG)

The putters feature a single black alignment line on the back flange, with a clean topline free of markings. A plumber’s neck hosel provides a moderate amount of toe hang, making them well-suited for players with an arced putting stroke.

PXG has also added two adjustable sole weights—one in the heel and one in the toe—allowing fitters to fine-tune the swing weight to match the putter’s length or a golfer’s preferences.

So, what’s the difference between the two models? The Tour Series Brandon has rounded bumpers that frame the back flange, offering a softer look at address. Meanwhile, the Tour Series Brandon II features a more squared-off design with angular bumpers, giving it a sharper appearance.

Bettinardi Antidote Series putters

The boutique putter maker offers its first “zero torque” options.

Gear: Bettinardi Antidote Series putters
Price: $430 each
Specs: Milled 303 stainless steel head with 6061 aluminum
Available: Nov. 29

Who It’s For: Golfers who struggle to start putts on their intended target line and players who struggle to square the face at impact.

What You Should Know: The Antidote putters are Bettinardi’s first “zero torque” putters and are designed to keep the face square to your stroke’s path and help golfers get putts started on their intended target line more easily.

The Deep Dive: You would be hard-pressed to find a golf equipment maker more associated with traditional clubs and designs than Bettinardi, the boutique putter maker based in Tinley Park, Illinois. For decades, the milled blades and mallets the company released have looked like they should be sold in jewelry stores, but putters like the BB Series and the Queen B series were made to be used and enjoyed. With the release of the two new Antidote putters, the SB1 blade and the SB2 mallet, Bettinardi joins a growing number of putter makers that now offer zero-torque putters.

Bettinardi Antidote putters
The Bettinardi Antidote S1 putters have toe-up balance. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

Bettinardi refers to the balance and weighting of the Antidote putters as Simply Balanced. It works by inserting the shaft directly into the putter at the center of gravity (CG). This results in two things. First, instead of the putter being either face balanced or having toe hang, the toe of the Antidote putters goes up when you balance the club. The second, and more important feature, is the face is not weighted or balanced in a way that encourages it to either open or close as you make your stroke.

If you don’t manipulate your hands or wrists, the face of the putter should stay square to the path of your putting stroke, regardless of whether it is straight, has a slight arc, or makes a significant arc. For golfers who struggle to start putts on their intended line or who have trouble squaring the face consistently at impact, this zero-torque design could be helpful.

Both Antidote putters are center-shafted, and the shaft goes into the heads behind the face, creating reverse offset, or onset, which for some golfers can appear odd when they look down in the address position. A benefit of the onset design is golfers can see the ball very clearly when they set up to make a putt because there is no part of the shaft or hosel to obstruct the view.

To shift weight and create the balance needed to produce a zero-torque design, Bettinardi used silver-toned 303 stainless steel in the front, heel and toe areas of the Antidote putters, but the blue portions of the heads are diamond-blasted finished 6061 aluminum. The aluminum weighs significantly less than the steel, so more weight could be shifted toward the face.

The grooves in the hitting area are designed to soften the feel of impact.

SB1 – This blade weighs 360 grams and comes standard with three degrees of loft and a 70-degree lie angle. Bettinardi designed it with a dark blue alignment line on the topline and another on the back flange to make aiming the face easier. A 400-gram counterbalanced version designed to help golfers quiet their hands and wrists during the stroke is also available.

SB2 – This square-shaped mallet weighs 360 grams and also comes standard with three degrees of loft and a 70-degree lie angle. It has a short blue alignment line on the topline and a pair of blue lines that extend back from the topline. The SB2 is also available in a 400-gram counterbalanced version.

Gear: Odyssey Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Putters
Price: $299.99 each
Specs: Center-shafted putters urethane insert, 3.3-degree forward press, and navy blue PVD finish.
Available: Now (pre-order), Nov. 29 (in stores)

Who it’s for: The Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters should appeal to golfers who want to minimize face rotation and increase their consistency on the greens.

What You Need to Know: This line extension blends a White Hot face insert that was developed using artificial intelligence, with toe-up weighting and balance intended to help golfers reduce face rotation during the stroke.

The deep dive: Odyssey released the first Ai-One putters in late 2023, promoting them as tools that could enhance a golfer’s distance control thanks to a White Hot face insert engineered with the help of artificial intelligence. The lineup expanded last month to include several new Ai-One and Ai-One Milled putters, including 2-Balls, Jailbirds and other midsize mallets.

Now, Odyssey is introducing the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square line and bringing the AI-designed face insert to a putter category that’s gaining a lot of attention — zero torque putters.

Odyssey Ai-One Square 2 Square putters
The shaft goes into the Ai-One Square 2 Square putters nearly on the center of gravity. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The new Ai-ONE Square 2 Square line includes two mallets, the Jailbird and #7, as well as a heel-toe weighted blade with an extended back flange that is called the Double Wide. All three putters have a center-shafted design, but instead of bringing the shaft into the topline, it connects well behind the face and a few millimeters toward the toe from the center of gravity (CG) location. As a result of that hosel location, if you hold the putters freely across your hands, the toe goes up and the face naturally points forward, toward your target.

Each Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putter is also designed with a 3.3-degree forward press, so the shaft leans toward your target when you address the ball.

The combination of the toe-up balance and forward press takes away the putter head’s bias to rotate closed on the backswing and rotate open on the downswing. So, the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters remain square to a golfer’s stroke path, regardless of whether that path is relatively straight, slightly arched, or strongly arched.

Odyssey Ai-One Square 2 Square putters

Odyssey believes this combination of reduced torque (face rotation), the AI-designed White Hot insert, and the latest counterbalanced Stroke Lab shaft can help golfers produce a smoother stroke with a better tempo that naturally keeps the face square to the path, and that should help golfers hit better putts.

Odyssey is not claiming that this is the first or only zero-torque putter out there, but the Ai-One Square 2 Square putters conquer one of the challenges faced by club designers in this category: zero-torque putters often look very unconventional. The Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters have classic head shapes that will be familiar to just about every golfer.

The Jailbird, originally released in 2014 and used by Wyndham Clark to win the 2023 U.S. Open, incorporates Odyssey’s signature Versa alignment stripes. The #7 is a fang-style mallet with dual white alignment lines that help frame the ball, making alignment more intuitive. The Double Wide completes the lineup as a modern, heel-toe weighted blade with a T-shaped white alignment aid.

Who it’s for: The Zero putters are designed for golfers seeking maximum stability and consistency along with enhanced distance control.

What you should know: Evnroll’s Zero putters are designed to look familiar but greatly reduce face rotation and torque during your stroke. They also reduce the forward press some zero-torque putters create.

The deep dive: In order to be a great putter, or at least putt with consistency, you need to gauge the speed of putts correctly, judge how balls will curve and break, and develop a stroke that repeatedly brings the face of the putter back squarely to the ball so it starts on your intended target line.

Evnroll can’t help you read greens more effectively, but for several years its SweetFace design has helped golfers enhance their distance control. Now, with the release of its three new Zero putters, the Carlsbad, Calif.-based brand feels it has a technology that can help golfers return the face to the square position more often.

Evnroll Zero putters
The Z2s has a reversed plumber’s neck hosel that drops down into the head on the target side instead of going back. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The Zero Z1 mallet, Z2s blade and Z5s mallet are all designed with that Evnroll calls Face Forward Technology. Basically, the designers of the putters took a classic plumber’s neck hosel, which bends away from your target and then goes straight down into the putter head, creating offset, and reversed it. Now, the hosel presses forward before dropping down, so the shaft points directly at the putter’s center of mass. The result is the hitting area shifts forward, creating on-set instead of offset, and face naturally wants to point forward, toward your target.

According to Evnroll, this hosel mechanism, when combined with tungsten and steel weights in the heel and toe areas of the sole, encourages the face to stay square to your stroke path, so regardless of whether you create an arc or have a straight putting stroke, the Evnroll Zero putters will encourage a square clubface at impact. In theory, that should help golfers start more putts along their intended target line.

Evnroll Zero putters
In the address position, the Z2 looks like a wide-body, heel-toe weighted blade. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

This design also reduces the level of forward press, which optically can be awkward for golfers who want a zero- or reduced-torque putter but have been using a conventional putter.

Each of the Zero putters has also been made with Evnroll’s SweetFace grooved hitting area. The grooves are deeper in the center and gradually get shallower toward the heel and toe. According to Evnroll, this helps to normalize the speed of the ball across the hitting area, so putts that golfers mis-hit toward the heel and toe roll out to nearly the same distance as putts struck in the center of the hitting area, resulting in enhanced distance control.

The three Zero putters have been designed with familiar, modern shapes.

  • Z1: This high-MOI mallet is designed using 6061 aluminum and
  • Z2s: A wide-body blade, this club is milled from 303 stainless steel.
  • Z5s: A classic midsize mallet, the Z5s is also milled from 303 stainless steel.

PXG Allan putter

A special hosel and balance helps the Allan keep the face square to your putter’s path.

Gear: PXG Allan putter
Price: $449.99
Specs: 303 stainless steel chassis with injected polymer and milled 6061 aluminum crown.

Who It’s For: Golfers who want to reduce face rotation on putts and increase stability and consistency.

What You Should Know: The PXG Allan putter is designed with an S-shaped hosel that creates a toe-up balance, helping the putter’s face stay square to the arc of your stroke. This design aids golfers in making solid contact more easily.

The Deep Dive: According to the Rules of Golf, when you sole your putter and rest it flat on the ground, the shaft can’t go straight up. If it did, golfers could make a pure pendulum stroke, which golf’s governing bodies believe would reduce the challenge of putting. To ensure a challenge, the putter must have a lie angle of no less than 80 degrees, which is why every golfer’s putting stroke has some level of arc. One of the biggest challenges in putting is returning the putter face to the exact position you establish at address and preventing it from swinging into the ball with an open or closed face, which would start the ball rolling offline.

PXG’s new Allan putter, named after the brother of PXG founder Bob Parsons, is designed to eliminate this challenge by helping golfers keep the putter face square to the natural arc of their stroke while boosting stability and improving distance control.

PXG Allan putter
The hosel points directly at the center of gravity, creating toe-up or “Zero Torque” balance. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The Allan putter achieves this with a unique hosel design. Unlike many hosels that attach to the heel area and create some level of toe hang, or center-shafted putters that produce a face-balanced condition, the Allan putter has an S-shaped hosel that points the tip of the putter shaft directly over the center of gravity (CG) behind the center of the hitting area. The hosel then bends and attaches to the putter head in the heel area, creating a toe-up condition that PXG refers to as Zero Torque.

When you make a stroke with the Allan putter, the balance helps keep the face square to the arc of your stroke, reducing the chances of the face fanning open on the backswing and closing on the downswing and follow-through. According to PXG, this should allow golfers to return the putter to the ball with a square face more often and start putts rolling on their intended line more easily.

There are two other notable features of the Allan’s hosel and shaft configuration. First, when you address the ball, the backward-pointing shaft and hosel give you an unobstructed view of the ball. Second, with the shaft set so far behind the putter’s topline, the Allan putter creates a natural forward press. Typically, when a golfer intentionally presses their hands forward before making a stroke, it de-lofts the face and points it downward. To counteract this, PXG designed the Allan with five degrees of loft, which offsets the two-degree forward press and makes the putter play like a club with a more typical three degrees of loft.

PXG Allan putter
The aluminum top features a single black alignment line. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The black frame of the Allan putter is made of 303 stainless steel, and the face is designed to be very thin. Behind the face, there’s a hollow chamber filled with a lightweight polymer called S COR, which PXG says absorbs excessive vibrations to enhance sound and feel.

The silver-toned top piece of the Allan is milled from 6061 aluminum, which is exceptionally light. Each Allan putter comes with a single black alignment line.

On the underside of the Allan, adjustable weights have been added to the toe and heel areas, allowing fitters to adjust the putter’s swing weight based on its length or the player’s preferences. Finally, the pocket designed into the aluminum piece enables golfers to press the Allan on top of a ball and pick it up without bending over.

The Deep Dive: The just-released Cobra 3D Printed family of putters is about as space-age putters get, but Cobra has new offerings in 2024 for players who want a classic-looking flat stick, the Vintage line.

Cobra’s Vintage line first appeared in 2021, and from a shaping standpoint, the 2024 offerings are very similar. The Sport-40 and Sport-60 are traditional heel-to-weighted blades that would look right at home in the bag of a PGA Tour player, while the Nova, with its wing-style extensions in the heel and toe, Stingray mallet and the semi-circular Cuba mallet will look familiar to most golfers too.

The most significant upgrade Cobra gave the Vintage putters is a new variable-loft Pebax insert. The hitting area is divided into four regions, with the top having 4 degrees of loft. Each segment of the face goes down in loft by 1 degree until you reach the bottom of the face, which has just 1 degree of loft. The design is meant to present the same loft to the ball on every stroke, even if your hands press forward slightly at impact or you swing up into the ball.

The technology comes from Cobra’s partner, L.A. Golf, and Cobra designers have used it in the past, but the addition of a lightweight thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) in the insert helps impact feel softer, especially compared to the firmer-feeling face of the 3-D Printed putters.

The body of each Vintage putter is metal injection molded (MIM) using 305 stainless steel, and each head has an adjustable weight in the heel and toe areas. Golfers will not be able to remove the weights, but fitters can swap the weights – which range from 5 grams to 25 grams – to change the swing weight of the putter based on its length and a golfer’s preferences.

Who it’s For: Golfers who want extra stability and modern design with enhanced alignment features.

The Skinny: By 3D printing a significant portion of the body, Cobra designers can radically shift weight to enhance performance while the variable-loft face encourages a more consistent roll.

The Deep Dive: When you make a new golf club, whether it’s a driver, a wedge or even a putter, one of the biggest challenges is to manipulate weight and remove it from places where it doesn’t do anything to areas when it can improve performance. As much as any brand in the industry, Cobra has aggressively used exotic materials, not just because they are cool, but because things like carbon fiber, tungsten and other things aside from stainless steel can make clubs perform better.

In 2021, Cobra released its first 3D Printed putters, taking the concept of exotic materials to a whole new level. Now, Cobra is releasing an updated family of 3D Printed putters.

Like the first generation of 3D Printed putters, the new offerings are aggressively shaped and made to be ultra-stable on mis-hits to keep putts you hit outside the sweet spot rolling on your intended line.

[afflinkbutton text=”Shop Cobra 3D printed putters” link=”https://worldwidegolfshops.pxf.io/75rDzQ”]

At first glance, you will see a carbon fiber crown and a four-level face that is made from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, an exceptionally light material. Made in partnership with L.A. Golf, the top portion of the hitting area has 4 degrees of loft, but each section drops in loft by 1 degree as the hitting area lowers, leaving the bottom with just 1 degree of loft. The idea is to create a consistent amount of loft on every putt, so if your hands are forward on one stroke, which would naturally de-loft the face, the 4 degrees of loft on the top can help to counteract it. If you swing up into a putt, which would add loft, the lower-lofted bottom of the face accommodates that type of stroke.

That’s what you see, but looking closer at the body of the 3D Printed putters reveals what makes them unique. Each head has a dark nylon area in the center that is made using 3D-printed nylon that is shaped into a lattice. This technique allows designers to make shapes and structures that could not be produced by forging or milling, while saving weight. The nylon also absorbs vibrations to improve sound and feel.

The rest of the body of the 3D Printed putters is made using metal-injection molded (MIM) 304 stainless steel.

The result of opting for all these high-tech materials is Cobra removed weight from the top, middle and face of the 3D Printed putters and shifted more of it to the back in the heel and toe areas, which boosts the moment of inertia (MOI) and helps the putters resist twisting on off-center strikes.

On the bottom of each club are weight ports that can hold weight screws ranging from 5 grams up to 25 grams. Custom fitters will be able to use these weights to adjust the swing weight of each putter based on the length that is ideal for specific players.

The 3D Printed putters are available in three different head styles, including the high-MOI Agera, the smaller Agera RS, the fang-style SuperNova and the blade-style GrandSport 35.

Ping PLD Milled Anser, Anser 2D, Oslo 3, DS72 and Ally Blue 4

Ping is expanding its PLD Milled putter family with new blades and mallets with customization options.

Gear: Ping PLD Milled Anser, Anser 2D, Oslo 3, DS72 and Ally Blue 4
Price: $485 each
Specs: Milled 303 stainless steel
Available: February 13

Who It’s For: Golfers who want tour-inspired looks and elite levels of feel and precision in their putter.

The Skinny: Using feedback from tour pros, Ping is expanding its PLD Milled putter family with new blades and mallets while also expanding the personalization and customization options.

The Deep Dive: Two years ago, Ping launched a three-level putter program that brought tour-level clubs to the masses and allowed consumers to customize their new Ping putters like never before. The four PLD putters were straight-from-the-bag of players like Viktor Hovland, but now Ping is releasing a line extension that includes five new PLD putters, the Milled Anser, Anser 2D, Oslo 3, DS72 and Ally Blue 4.

Like the first PLD putters (PLD stands for Putting Lab Design in homage to the company’s putter testing facility inside its Phoenix, Arizona, headquarters), the new Anser, Anser 2D, DS72 and Oslo 3 are each milled from a solid block of 303 stainless steel in a process that takes about four hours to complete. They come standard with a gunmetal finish and a deep-milling pattern in the hitting area that creates the sound and feel that tour players prefer.

Ping PLD Anser 2024
The Ping PLD Anser 2024 is the latest version of the most-copied putter in golf. (Ping)
  • Anser – This classic heel-toe weighted blade comes at a standard weight of 350 grams with 3 degrees of loft.
  • Anser 2D – This is the Tony Finau putter, a wider version of the original Anser. At 365 grams, its added weight and size make it more stable.
  • DS72 – The Viktor Hovland putter, this compact mallet is suited for golfers with a straight putting stroke. The gap in the back flange can help players align the face more easily.
  • Oslo 3 – This semi-circular mallet is a favorite of Tyrrell Hatton and has a higher moment of inertia to increase stability.

The fifth putter, the high-MOI Ally Blue 4, is a mallet with an aluminum body, stainless steel soleplate and aluminum hosel. Its size, shape and weight distribution help it resist twisting on off-center hits and keep mis-hit putts rolling on your intended target line.

In addition to announcing the release of the five new PLD putters, Ping is allowing golfers to personalize their putters more deeply by utilizing an online tool on ping.com called PLD Milled Plus.

Instead of going with the standard features that come on the PLD putters, PLD Milled Plus lets golfers select their own alignment aids, paint fill, custom graphics and paint-filled grips. For instance, if you want a single dot added to the topline of your DS72, filled in red, no problem. If you want two alignment lines added to your Anser, one in purple and the other in golf, you got it. Laser etching also always allows golfers to add stars and stripes or Mr. Ping logos.

Once golfers are done designing their putter online, they can take their unique design specifications to an authorized where the custom order is placed before Ping’s custom shop builds the club.

The Deep Dive: When anchored puttering strokes were outlawed by the USGA and R&A in 2016, some players looked to heavier putters and counterbalanced putters to get some of the stability back in their game. Lighter putters can encourage golfers to get their hands and wrists more involved in the stroke, which can lead to inconsistency. However, heavier putters and clubs that have extra weight added to the top of the handle tend to quiet your hands and encourage players to make a smoother stroke, which can enhance consistency.

In time, the counterbalanced putter surge quieted and faded. The trend towards generally heavier putters continued, with many putters now typically weighing 345 or 350 grams, which is about 20-25 grams heavier than putters made in the early 2000s.

With the release of the new Cruiser family of putters, Odyssey is looking to blend the stability and stroke-enhancing features of longer, counterbalanced putters with a face technology created using artificial intelligence.

At the heart of the new Cruiser putter family is the new Ai ONE, which made its debut this winter in the standard Ai ONE putters. On the outside, the insert looks like a standard White Hot insert with a series of grooves milled into the hitting area. However, on the interfacing side of the urethane insert, artificial intelligence has created a series of thicker and thinner areas that help to normalize ball speed. Traditionally, when you strike a pot in the center, you get the best energy transfer, but when you strike a pot towards the heel or toe, the ball rolls out less far. With the AI ONE insert, center strikes are slowed down slightly while mis-hits roll out a touch further, so your overall distance control is enhanced. A transparent polymer window in each putter allows you to see the rippled backside of the insert.

Odyssey Ai ONE Double Wide Cruiser
A window on the back of the Double Wide Cruiser allows you to see the variable-thickness Ai ONE insert. (Odyssey)

Each of the five Cruiser models features the Ai ONE insert, and all five putters are significantly heavier than most of today’s standard putters, including the 380-gram Jailbird, which also comes with the black-and-white Versa alignment lines. This is the putter that Wyndham Clark used to win the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last week and a putter that is nearly identical to the one he used to win the 2023 U.S. Open. At 38 inches in length, it comes standard with a 17-inch grip, and players are encouraged to choke down so a few inches of the grip extend above their hands. Doing this creates a counterbalancing effect and should help increase stability.

There are three versions of the #7 putter in the Cruiser family, including a 42-inch, 380-gram Arm-Lock edition and a 48-inch, 450-gram Broomstick model. The standard #7 Cruiser is 38 inches long with a head that weighs 380 grams. Like the Jailbird, it comes standard with a 17-inch grip, along with a Stroke Lab 140 steel shaft.
