Inter vs. Benfica picks and predictions

Prediction

Inter 2, Benfica 1

Moneyline (ML)

BET INTER (-140).

Inter has been strong at home in league play, winning 3 of 4. This is a trend though, as it went 14-0-5 at home in Serie A competition last season too. Inter was 2-0-1 in the UEFA Champions League group stage last year, only losing to Bayern Munich. The talent and strength at home are both there.

Although Benfica has been among the best teams in Portugal, it may not be able to keep pace, and it displayed that being annihilated at home to Salzburg, a team most would consider worse than Inter. At these odds, back INTER (-140).

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (-134).

Inter averages 2.71 goals per game in Serie A competition. Benfica averages 2.43, and while it didn’t score in the 1st matchday, it did have 1.5 expected goas which means the opportunities it created should’ve resulted in at least one goal.

Benfica has scored in every league game this season and multiple times in 6 of 7. It has an impressive attack that should be able to break down Inter at least once. Martinez and Inter speak for themselves in what they’ve been doing in the Italian league. It should be able to score as well.

Take OVER 2.5 (-134).

Inter vs. Benfica odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Inter vs. Benfica odds and lines, with Champions League expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Inter welcomes Benfica to San Siro Wednesday. Kickoff in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal is set for 3 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Inter vs. Benfica odds, and make our best Champions League bets, picks and predictions.

In a surprising 1st leg, Inter took a 2-0 lead and never looked back. Despite being on the road, Inter had 1 more shot on target. Benfica did end with 57% of the possession and 4 more shots (12 in total), but will face a major deficit to overcome.

Inter is just 2-5-3 in their last 10 games throughout all competitions. They sit 5th in Serie A, the top Italian league, and average 1.6 goals per game while allowing 1.13 per game. They are led offensively by F Lautaro Martinez, who has 14 goals in 30 matches.

Benfica is 11-2-1 on the road. They sit No. 1 in the Premeira Liga, the top Portuguese league. Benfica won 12 straight games, taking down Club Brugge 7-1 in the Round of 16, yet has now lost 3 in a row which includes defeats to Porto, Inter and Chaves.

Inter vs. Benfica picks and predictions

Prediction

Benfica 1, Inter 0

Moneyline (ML)

SPRINKLE BENFICA (+240).

Last year, Benfica lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool and then drew 3-3 on the road. Liverpool was an elite side last season, but Benfica lost then went on the road and bounced back.

They have a dominant offense and will want to push the pace here. They beat Club Brugge in the Round of 16 and Juventus in the group stage on the road and haven’t lost in the Champions League on the road so far this season.

Inter has also lost 4 of their last 8 matches, so they haven’t necessarily played well as of late. They have lost 3 straight home league matches as well. Put it all together and, at this value, take BENFICA (+240).

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-125).

Inter has failed to score in 4 of their last 7 matches, and there has only been 1 goal scored in 3 of their last 6. They have gone Under this total in 7 straight games and in 10 of their last 11. That’s telling of how they play and, against an unfamiliar opponent and being up 2-0, they may opt to park the bus and ensure they don’t give up multiple goals.

As for Benfica, they have gone Under in 3 of their last 4 and have had fewer than 1 expected goal in 2 of their last 4. They have also allowed fewer than 1 expected goal in 6 of their last 8. They have a solid defense and haven’t been as dynamic offensively.

Couple it all together and back the UNDER 2.5 (-125).

Benfica vs. Inter odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Benfica vs. Inter odds and lines, with Champions League expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Benfica welcomes Inter to Estádio da Luz Tuesday. Kickoff in the 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal is set for 3 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Benfica vs. Inter odds, and make our best Champions League bets, picks and predictions.

Benfica has been dominant at home this season (12-1-1) and they sit No. 1 in the Primeira, the top league in Portugal. Benfica has scored 68 goals while allowing 16 in league play. They finished atop Group H going 4-0-2 with 16 goals for and 7 goals against. They sent home Club Brugge in the Round of 16, beating them 7-1 throughout the 2 legs.

Inter, which sits 5th in Serie A, the top Italian league, finished 2nd in Group C behind Bayern Munich. They were 3-2-1 in the 6 group stage games, scoring 10 and allowing 7. They sent home Porto in the Round of 16 with a 0-0 draw and 1-0 win. Argentinian F Lautaro Martinez, who has 14 goals in 24 starts, is a name to keep an eye on.

Benfica vs. Inter picks and predictions

Prediction

Benfica 2, Inter 1

Moneyline (ML)

LEAN BENFICA (+115).

Simply put, Benfica has thrashed opponents at home. They’ve torn through league play and destroyed Club Brugge 5-1 at home. They beat Juventus 4-3 and drew PSG at home in the group stage round. They are coming off a 2-1 loss at home to Porto, but that was with this game and then another game Saturday in mind.

For Inter, they haven’t played overly well on the road. They drew Porto 0-0 on the road in the Round of 16 and were just 1-1-1 in the group stage on the road. Inter is 5-6-3 in Serie A play away from home.

Given those shortcomings and Benfica’s strengths at home, take BENFICA (+115).

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (+115).

Benfica plays at a fast pace and has gone Over this total in 4 of their last 5 matches. They have scored in every Champions League game so far this season and have scored 2 or more in 10 of their 12 matches (4 qualifyings and/or play-off rounds). They went Over this total in 3 of 6 group stage games and in 1 of 2 quarterfinal matches.

Inter has scored in 5 of 8 Champions League games and has gone Over this total in 3 of their last 5 Champions League games.

The Benfica pace should allow for ample chances. Considering that and the value here, play the OVER 2.5 (+115).

Liverpool vs. Benfica odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Liverpool vs. Benfica odds and lines, with Champions League picks and predictions.

Liverpool hosts Benfica at the Anfield Wednesday for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the Liverpool vs. Benfica odds and lines, and make our best Champions League bets, picks and predictions.

Liverpool traveled to Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz last Tuesday and walked away with a 3-1 win over Benfica in the first leg. The F Mohamad Salah-led side scored 2 in the first half and then one in the 5 minutes.

It ended with 17 shots, 8 on target and 68% of the possession. Liverpool then met Man City in a game that undoubtedly will help determine the fate of the EPL. That resulted in a 2-2 draw.

Liverpool is led by an ultra-strong defense that has allowed 22 goals in 31 EPL matches. It has an EPL-high 79 goals as well.

As for Benfica, it did manage 9 shots and 3 on target in the first leg. Benfica sits 3rd in Premiera Liga. It has scored 73 and allowed 29 in 29 league games. Benfica beat Ajax 3-2 in the first round of the knockout stage.

  • Money line: Liverpool -380 (bet $380 to win $100) | Benfica +900 (bet $100 to win $900) | Draw +550
  • Over/Under: 3.5 (O: -102 | U: -122)

[tipico]

Prediction

Liverpool 2, Benfica 0

Money line (ML)

PASS.

Liverpool, even at home, at -380 has no value.

Its motivation may not be there up 3-1 and coasting into the next round. It’s potentially a similar situation we say with Man City at home up 5-0 on Sporting. A draw at +550, at those odds, may give some value.

Given Benfica’s terrific attack and the fact that it was able to get 9 shots on Liverpool in the first leg, I don’t necessarily like the one team not to score at -105 either.

Overall, I’d pass and look towards the total for value.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 3.5 (-122).

Given the motivation difference, I think the best play here is the Under 3.5 (-122). Liverpool is coming off a midweek match that it wanted to get out ahead and then a tough battle with Man City.

With both teams having top-tier defenses, ranking in the top 3 in their respective league in opponents’ goals, it should be a different pace, especially as Liverpool clearly will dictate the speed of the game.

Among the 3 matchups in the first knockout stage round that entered the second leg with a 2 or more goal difference on aggregate, only LOSC and Chelsea went Over 2.5 goals. Inter-Liverpool was a 1-0 battle after Liverpool entered with a 2-0 lead.

Before the Man City game this past weekend, Liverpool hasn’t allowed multiple goals to an opponent since Jan. 2. Benfica has allowed multiple goals in UEFA Champions League matches just 4 times in 13 performances.

Put it all together, and the Under is the better play.

Benfica vs. Liverpool odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Benfica vs. Liverpool odds and lines, with Champions League picks and predictions.

Benfica will meet Liverpool in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League Tuesday. Kickoff from Estádio da Luz is set for 3 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the Benfica vs. Liverpool odds and lines, and make our best Champions League bets, picks and predictions.

Liverpool, which sits second on the EPL table and will challenge Manchester City for the top spot, advanced on aggregate against Inter. It won 2-1, losing the second leg 1-0 in the first knockout round.

Liverpool is led by the EPL’s leading scorer, F Mohamed Salah. It features D Virgil van Dijk on a backline that sits second in the EPL in goals allowed. Liverpool is a heavy favorite despite being on the road.

As for Benfica, it sits in 3rd place in the Primeira Liga, the top league in Portugal.

It has scored 70 and allowed 28 in 28 games. It advanced by defeating Ajax 3-2, drawing 2-2 in the first leg. Benfica is led by 22-year-old Uruguay F Darwin Núñez. Nunez has 21 goals on the season.

[tipico]

Prediction

Liverpool 3, Benfica 1

Money line (ML)

PASS.

There isn’t a lot I like here. Liverpool at -250 on the road is far pricey. I even think betting on either team to, or not to, score is a difficult play considering how teams play outside of their league.

The total will be the best way to play this game.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 2.5 (-160).

It’s a bit pricey, but it’s the best way to play this.

Liverpool has the EPL’s most dynamic offense, and its dominance should continue here. Salah and F Sadio Mané are a dynamic duo and should pose a huge challenge.

Benfica also has a terrific attack behind Nunez. It scored 7 and allowed 9 in group stage. Considering it hasn’t taken on a team of Liverpool’s caliber, it should struggle to keep up.

Liverpool has scored 77 times in 30 league games while Benfica has been just as amazing offensively. I expect both to have ample opportunity to score. I’d play the price on OVER 2.5 (-160) over the plus-money value at 3.5 (+155).
