On Saturday before the SEC clash between Tennessee and Georgia, Peter Herbstreit met a famed school mascot, the Dawgs’ Uga.

They seemed to become fast friends.

Ben had become America’s Dog, traveling with Herbstreit as he called games for each network.

Schools began to create credentials for Ben and he received gifts and love everywhere he went.

Ben Herbstreit, the most beloved dog in college football, has died.

Football broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit confirmed on Thursday that his beloved golden retriever Ben had died.

A regular companion with Herbstreit on ESPN college football Saturdays, Herbstreit shared the heartbreaking update on Ben the dog’s death on Twitter (X).

“This is really hard to write but so many of you have loved and cared about Ben that I wanted to let you know,” Herbstreit shared on social media.

“We found out today the cancer had spread throughout Bens organs and there was nothing left we could do-we had to let him go. I’ve had dogs my whole life but Ben was 1 on 1.”

Ben was 10 years old and leaves behind a heartening legacy of being one of the all-time bestest boys the college football world has ever known.

“God please bless his majestic soul and thank you for putting him in my life for the last 10 years-a true blessing,” Herbstreit shared about his departed furry companion. “Love you Ben.”

On Saturday, Ben was in Austin, Texas, for the Georgia-Texas SEC clash.

And when in Texas, one has to meet the Longhorn mascot, Bevo.

Ben had a busy day as he made his way in and around the stadium.

The ESPN announcer said Ben has been battling health issues (cancer) but having him on the road helps Kirk Herbstreit and it helps Ben.
