Mo Donegal aced the test of champions.
The test of the champions has produced another worthy victor as Mo Donegal earned a first place finish at the 2022 Belmont Stakes on Saturday in Elmont, New York.
It’s the fourth Belmont Stakes victory for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Mo Donegal got off to a middling start, hanging in the middle of the pack while We The People raced out to the lead after starting on the rail. Despite sitting in sixth place on the backstretch, Mo Donegal was able to muscle around the top of the field and gather strength down the stretch to cross the finish line in just 2:28.28.
The 1.5 mile dirt race saw just an eight horse field, but it happened to be packed with established names like Skippylongstocking, Barber Road and 2022 Kentucky Derby-winner Rich Strike.
This was Rich Strike’s first race since his historic Run for the Roses when he was added as a late entry to the field, then blazed away with the win despite 80-1 odds—the second longest ever to win the Derby.
On Saturday, Rich Strike struggled to keep up with the pace and couldn’t make a late move running in eighth almost the entire race.
Mo Donegal, who finished fifth behind Rich Strike at the Kentucky Derby will take home $800,000 of the $1.5 million purse after closing with 5-2 odds.

Here are the latest odds.
The third and final jewel in the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing is nearly here, with the 2022 Belmont Stakes set to be held on Saturday afternoon.
Of course, there’s no shot at the actual Triple Crown since Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike skipped the Preakness. He’ll be running at Belmont Park on Long Island on Saturday (and the horse is among our favorite names in the race!)
So as we’ve done with previous races, we’re listing the updated odds after the morning line odds were revealed earlier in the week when the post position draw was held.
Here are the odds we’ve seen as of Saturday morning (via Horse Racing Nation):
In 1973, Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 lengths to capture the Triple Crown
This will help you win money (probably not).
The 2022 Belmont Stakes is nearly here, and it’s time to help you win some money.
So if you’re looking for betting advice or odds? Sorry to say, but look elsewhere. Because as we’ve done with the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, we’re here to rank horse names. That’s at least how I pick which thoroughbreds to throw money down on. Doesn’t everybody?
A reminder: This is very unscientific (you knew that), but I tend to like prestigious names that sound like winners and originality.
So, here it is, my ranking of all the contenders — including Rich Strike, back after skipping the Preakness — by name:
And don’t forget about the Stanley Cup Final.
June is here, which means it’s championship season for a few sports. The NBA and NHL will each crown champions in the next few weeks, but those are far from the only big events to bet this month.
There’s another golf major coming up with the U.S. Open teeing off mid-month. But first, a few NFL MVPs hit the links when Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers take on Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen in The Match. There’s also Wimbledon and the College World Series later in the month. And though horse racing won’t have a Triple Crown winner, the Belmont Stakes is sure to bring excitement too.
Here’s a look at when all of that and more takes place.

Rich Strike’s quest for the Triple Crown is over
The 2022 horse racing season will not see a Triple Crown winner.
After a stunning victory in the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike will not run in the Preakness Stakes on May 21 and instead prepare for the Belmont Stakes on June 11, owner Rick Dawson and trainer Eric Reed announced.
The colt was an extremely late entry into the Kentucky Derby field, drawing in on Friday after a scratch opened up a spot in the field. That saw the three-year-old’s odds languish at 80-to-1 before pulling off the second-largest upset in Derby history.
Rich Strike becomes just the third horse to win the Kentucky Derby and skip the Preakness since 1996. Justify in 2018 remains the last horse to win the Triple Crown.

Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike will NOT run in the Preakness Stakes, per his owner, Rick Dawson. Story to come. " we are going to stay with our plan of what's best for Ritchie is what's best for our group, and pass on running in the Preakness, and point toward the Belmont." pic.twitter.com/ezjxz2pZC9

Over the last 30 years, Derby champions who won with odds of 10-to-1 or longer have won the Preakness four times (I’ll Have Another in 2012, Funny Cide in 2003, War Emblem in 2002 and Charismatic in 1999). In 2019, Country House won the Kentucky Derby at 65.2-to-1 odds before skipping the Preakness after contracting a virus.
Here's how every horse who won the Derby at odds of > 10-1 fared in the Preakness over the last 30 years. Notably, the 5 longest shots to win at Churchill all finished in the top 3 at Pimlico — with one (Charismatic in '99) winning it: pic.twitter.com/6CO8TXCOtL

Mandaloun, which was deemed winner of the 2021 Kentucky Derby following the disqualification on Medina Spirit, also skipped the Preakness.
The remainder of the 2022 Preakness field has yet to be announced.

How to watch the 2020 Belmont Stakes.

You can see the morning line odds for the Belmont Stakes here.
Post time for the 2020 Belmont Stakes is 5:42 p.m. ET.
You can watch the race on NBC, or stream the race online at NBCSports.com or via the NBC Sports app.
