‘Dead by Daylight’ developer says it “does not sell NFTs”

Behaviour Interactive is not selling NFTs in Dead By Daylight.

Dead By Daylight  developer Behaviour Interactive recently came under fire after announcing its involvement with the Masters of Horror NFT Collection.

After an overwhelmingly negative response to the announcement, Behaviour Interactive has stated that no cryptocurrency technology is coming to Dead By Daylight

“We hear and understand the concerns raised by our community over NFTs,” Behaviour said in a statement to ForTheWin. “Absolutely zero blockchain tech exists in Dead by Daylight. Nor will it ever. Behaviour Interactive does not sell NFTs.”

Not that’s not to say the Masters of Horror NFT Collection  doesn’t involve NFTs (it’s right in the name, after all), just that blockchain tech will not be in Dead By Daylight. This NFT collection does allow people that buy into it a chance to earn the Hellraiser Chapter expansion for the game, though.

Many speculated that Dead By Daylight might get removed from Steam since Valve does not allow games with blockchain technologies on the platform. As Behaviour interactive points out, the Masters of Horror NFT Collection isn’t part of Dead By Daylight when you boot it up. Take that for what you will!

Ironically, Epic Games said blockchain technologies are welcome on its storefront, and Dead By Daylight  was chatting up The Epic Games Store on Twitter a couple of weeks back. Though don’t take that as an indication of anything to come.

‘Dead By Daylight’ is getting into NTFs, and fans aren’t happy

Developer Behavior Interactive is getting criticized for collaborating on a new NFT collection.

All it took was a quick announcement on Monday from Behavior Interactive that Dead By Daylight  is getting in on NFTs to infuriate its fanbase.

The Masters of Horror NFT Collection is a collaboration between Behavior Interactive and Boss Protocol, a company that makes NFTs based on popular franchises. Buying into Dead By Daylight’s Masters of Horror NFT Collection potentially nets you the Hellraiser Chapter. And well, fans are extremely upset about this. Mainly because of the controversy surrounding NFTs and blockchain technologies that potentially have a negative impact on the environment.

Check out the full announcement from Behavior Interactive on the Masters of Horror NFT Collection for yourself below.

Everyone is taking shots at Dead By Daylight and its developers over this collaboration. It’s a hot-button issue in the video game industry right now, with companies like Valve banning cryptocurrency games from Steam to Epic welcoming them — Behavior Interactive picked a heck of a time to jump into this whole mess.

Below you’ll find a list of some of the reactions condemning this announcement. From prominent industry figures like Ellen Rose and Patrick Klepek to artists like Trevor Henderson, the response is overwhelmingly negative. At least the memes are funny, though, I guess?

‘Friday the 13th’ developer takes shot at ‘Dead By Daylight’ over NFTs

This is as close to Freddy vs. Jason as we’re going to get.

Still sad that we never got a second Freddy vs. Jason? Well, we might have the next best thing: Wes Keltner, co-creator of Friday The 13th: The Game clowning on asymmetrical horror game rival Dead By Daylight’s new NFTs.

Behavior Interactive, the studio behind Dead By Daylight, is getting mauled on social media after announcing the Masters of Horror NTF collaboration with Boss Protocol. Basically, these NFTs allow players to unlock in-game content in Dead By Daylight, namely the Hellraiser Chapter just came out on Sept. 7, and folks aren’t happy about it. And Neither is Keltner.

“I love working with nostalgic film IP and thinking of ways to make them into games. I want to reintroduce old IP to new generations,” Keltner said on Twitter. “Making money at any cost isn’t a big motivator for me. It’s why we will never sell NFT’s based on our games/models.”

It’s no secret that Dead By Daylight  is far and above the most popular game in the asymmetrical horror genre, and it’s easy to see why. Behavior Interactive goes above and beyond to support the community and has built up loads of goodwill over the years. However, this decision to utilize blockchain technology and NTFs has infuriated fans, if the ratio below is any indication.

This announcement from Behavior Interactive comes mere days after Valve announced they would not be allowing games that support NTFs on Steam. While Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeny said the Epic Games Store would indeed allow games with blockchain tech.

‘Nightfair’ is a fan-made mode that turns ‘Fortnite’ into ‘Dead By Daylight’

No build wars, only loops.

Dead By Daylight might be the king of the asymmetrical horror genre, but fans of Fornite  are putting their spin on the formula.

Nightfair is a free Fortnite mode that transforms the battle royale into something resembling Behavior Interactive’s Dead By Daylight. Six survivor players have to outrun another player hunting them inside a big spooky theme park. Well, “spooky” is being generous as this mode maintains Fornite’s kid-friendly visuals. You don’t repair generators to escape like in Dead By Daylight either, but rather, coin-collecting is how the survivors escape.

Indie developer Meta 4 Interactive created Nightfair  in Fortnite’s creative mode, and it’s available for free inside the game’s discovery tab. Or add it by island code  8342-0826-6393.

Check out the trailer for Nightfair for yourself below.

Many fans were speculating that all of this would lead to an official Dead by Daylight crossover with Fortnite, mainly because the Epic Games Store account was joking around about it on Twitter. To which the official Dead by Daylight  account responded.

Brand accounts play around on Twitter all the time, though, so don’t take this as a sign of things to come.
