Bears K Cairo Santos named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month

While the Bears have plenty of questions to answer following the 2020 season, one of those is not at the kicker position.
Cairo Santos started the season as an “in case of emergency” option for the Bears when Eddy Pineiro went down with a groin injury. But Santos quickly established himself as the answer to Chicago’s kicker woes.
Santos has been impressive all season, but especially as the Bears battled to secure a wild-card spot over the last month. Santos’ performance has earned his NFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors for December.
In the last four games, Santos made all 12 of his field goals in three victories and one loss for the Bears.
Santos hasn’t just been good, he’s been record-breaking for the Bears. Santos connected on his final 27 field-goal attempts this season, which eclipsed the mark of 26 in a row set by Robbie Gould back in 2005-06

He’s back – Mitchell Trubisky will get the start vs. Packers

While Matt Nagy has been steering clear of naming a starting quarterback for Sunday night’s game against the Packers, it’s been clear that Mitchell Trubisky will be lining up under center for the Bears.
Nagy finally confirmed that Trubisky will be the starter following Friday’s practice.
Trubisky was a full participant all week while Nick Foles hasn’t practiced due to a hip injury. Foles was listed as doubtful for Sunday, which confirmed that Trubisky will in fact get the start.
Trubisky last started in Week 3 against the Falcons, where he was benched in the third quarter following a costly interception.
He was 3-0 as a starter, although technically he didn’t lead the Bears to a win over the Falcons.
Foles has served as the starter for the last seven games, where the Bears have gone 2-5

Bears S Eddie Jackson placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Chicago Bears exited their bye week with some bad news. Safety Eddie Jackson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday afternoon, the team announced.
It’s unclear if Jackson tested positive for COVID-19 or was in close proximity with someone who tested positive.
If Jackson tests negative for the virus, he is eligible to come off the list in five days and would be able to suit up on Sunday evening against the Packers.
According to Layer Mayer of ChicagoBears.com, Jackson is the eighth Bears player to be placed on the list this season.
Jackson has played in every game for the Bears in 2020 and has 58 tackles with three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a touchdown.
If he is unable to come off the list, safeties Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson would see additional playing time in his absence

Bears center Cody Whitehair tests positive for COVID-19

The Bears have an official COVID-19 outbreak on their hands, as a second offensive lineman has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Whitehair joins reserve tackle Jason Spriggs in the COVID-19 protocol and right guard Germain Ifedi is quarantining because of his close contact with Spriggs, and, presumably, Whitehair.
Whitehair was already expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Titans with a calf injury and starting right tackle Bobby Massie is sidelined with a knee injury.
With Whitehair being the second confirmed COVID-19 case on the offensive line, the concerns are only just beginning

Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky suffered shoulder injury vs. Saints

It just hasn’t been Mitchell Trubisky’s year.
Not only was he benched for Nick Foles after a decent start to the season, but on one play — one running play — against the Saints, the Bears’ former top pick suffered an injury to his right throwing shoulder.
Trubisky came in for one play, where he kept the ball on a read-option and was tackled by Saints linebacker Alex Anzalone.
NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo reported that Trubisky suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder, where there’s concern that it’s a structural issue. But “the extent is unclear at this point”.
The Athletic’s Adam Jahns confirmed Garofolo’s report, noting that the severity isn’t known yet, and Trubisky will undergo further evaluations

Bears WR Javon Wims suspended two games for punching Saints DB

Punishment has been handed down to Bears receiver Javon Wims following his ejection from Sunday’s game against the Saints.
Wims punched Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson twice — in the helmet — which instigated a melee on the field early in the third quarter.
Wims has been suspended for two games, the NFL announced on Monday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Wims will appeal his suspension.
Bears head coach Matt Nagy called Wims’ actions “completely unacceptable,” and it something that ended up costing his team early in the third quarter in Chicago’s 26-23 overtime loss to the Saints.
Wims is eligible to return to the Bears’ active roster on Nov. 17 following Chicago’s Week 10 match-up against the Vikings on Monday Night Football
