Bears WR Allen Robinson has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in 2020

Bears receiver Allen Robinson has recorded his second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season.

No matter how terrible the Chicago Bears offense has been over the last couple of seasons, receiver Allen Robinson has managed to thrive.

Robinson has recorded back-to-back 1,000 yard receiving seasons, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark in the first half of Chicago’s game against the Houston Texans. Robinson had 88 receiving yards in the first half on eight receptions, and it was his 35-yard reception on the Bears’ first offensive series of the second half that put him over 1,000 yards.

This is the third 1,000-yard receiving season in Robinson’s career.

Robinson is the fifth Bears player to post back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, the others include Curtis Conway (1994-95), Marty Booker (2001-02), Brandon Marshall (2012-13) and Alshon Jeffery (2013-14).

What makes Robinson’s feat even more impressive is the fact that those 1,000-yard seasons have come with inadequate quarterback play, including Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles in Chicago and with Blake Bortles in Jacksonville.

With Robinson in the final year of his three-year deal with the Bears, they still haven’t signed him to a contract extension. And it’s clear that he deserves an extension.

The secret is out: Bears rookie WR Darnell Mooney is a stud

Bears rookie WR Darnell Mooney could wind up being one of the biggest steals of the NFL draft.

While Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has been fairly criticized for his failure to hit on first-round draft picks during his tenure, one thing he has been good at is finding late-round gems in the NFL draft.

This year’s gem is none other than fifth-round rookie receiver Darnell Mooney, who immediately made an impact upon his arrival. Without the benefit of an offseason program or sufficient training camp reps, Mooney has blossomed into one of the NFL’s young star receivers.

It didn’t take long for Mooney to climb up the depth chart, where he was the clear-cut No. 2 wideout behind Allen Robinson in Week 2. And it’s easy to see why when you see this kid’s ability to make catches and utilize his speed in a way that can be deadly for defenses.

“It’s not a secret anymore, the ability and skill-set that this young man possesses,” said Bears receivers coach Mike Furrey. “He’s obviously done enough and has proven enough that he can definitely be successful in NFL games as we get the ball in his hands.”

When it comes down to it, Mooney doesn’t feel like a rookie. He’s been playing like an experienced veteran, which starts with his preparation. That was something that impressed Bears coaches during training camp, and it’s carried over into the regular season.

“I love his ability and I love the way he approaches the game,” said Bears passing game coordinator Dave Ragone. “I made the comment [previously] that he didn’t feel like a rookie to me. Nothing has changed there.

“He just gets it, and when rookies just get it, you feel like the game is never going to be too big for him. Or the moment. Or what they’re asked to do. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do, and he can get better and better. And he knows that. It’s just great watching him grow.”

Bears WR Allen Robinson leads the NFL in receiving yards right now

Allen Robinson is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and he’s proving that through five weeks in this 2020 season.

In case Bears general manager Ryan Pace has missed it, receiver Allen Robinson has been absolutely thriving this season. While he hasn’t been perfect, Robinson has shown why he deserves a contract extension that continues to elude him.

In Thursday’s primetime contest against the Buccaneers, Robinson had a career-high 10 receptions for 90 yards. It was the third straight game where Robinson has recorded 90 receiving yards, the first time he’s accomplished that in his career.

Through five games this season, Robinson has 35 receptions for 421 yards and two touchdowns. His 421 receiving yards leads the NFL through Week 5. Although, to be fair, the Bears and Buccaneers are the only teams that have played five games ahead of Sunday.

Robinson is just ahead Buffalo’s Stefon Diggs (403), DK Metcalf (403), Dallas’ Amari Cooper (401) and Arizona’s DeAndre Hopkins (397), who have yet to play in Week 5.

After five games, Robinson is on track for 112 catches for 1,347 yards and six touchdowns in 2020.

Bears WR Allen Robinson knew rookie Darnell Mooney was special

It hasn’t taken Bears rookie WR Darnell Mooney long to turn heads with his performance on the field, including from veteran Allen Robinson.

It hasn’t taken Bears rookie receiver Darnell Mooney long to turn heads with his performance on the field. While Mooney’s numbers haven’t been extravagant, they don’t need to be. At least not yet.

Mooney made an impression in his debut performance against the Lions, where he caught three receptions for 38 yards. But it wasn’t just the fact that he caught all three passes thrown his way. It was in how he took the field like a veteran, where we could see flashes of speed that the Bears will certainly utilize to stretch the field.

It was more of the same in his second outing, this time against the Giants, where Mooney caught all three passes thrown his way for 36 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown at the end of the first half. He also saw an uptick in snaps, where his playing time nearly doubling from 32% in Week 1 to 60% in Week 2.

While it’s early, it certainly looks like the fifth-round pick out of Tulane can become a special player. Take it from someone that’s been working with Mooney since his arrival in Chicago.

Allen Robinson invited Bears receivers to his home in Florida for offseason workouts, where Mooney quickly impressed Robinson. And he’s done more of the same in these first two games.

“I knew that he for sure is a guy that can have a special career,” Robinson said. “He’s always trying to get better. Body-wise, nutrition-wise, he’s one of those guys who truly wants to be the best player that he can be, and whenever you have guys like that, you know the sky is the limit for them and they’ll always be able to find ways to have success.”

Robinson has described Mooney as a rookie who is “locked into details” and has the potential to “stretch the field, be moved around and adapt to the game very quickly.”

It’s clear that Mooney has impressed the coaching staff and earned the trust of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Following two impressive outings in his first two games, all eyes will be on Mooney to see how his role in this offense grows.

Perhaps general manager Ryan Pace has found another late-round gem.

Does Bears WR Allen Robinson want out of Chicago?

The Bears have yet to sign star WR Allen Robinson to a contract extension. and he’s removed all ties to the team on his social media pages.

The start of the NFL season means many fans are putting out their football decorations, changing their social media pictures to support their team, and repping them in any way possible. For Chicago Bears receiver Allen Robinson, he did the complete opposite by removing all ties to the team on his social media pages.

Robinson, who has been the talk of the town all offseason as fans have pined Bears general manager Ryan Pace to extend their bona fide receiver, has subtly (and not so subtly at times) dropped hints on his desire for a contract extension. The latest came on Monday night as fans noticed some differences on his Twitter and Instagram pages.

Robinson’s Instagram feed only shows personal photos and his Bears-related bio and cover photo on Twitter was changed.

Normally, this activity goes over many people’s heads. After all, Robinson did change his Bears cover photo to a Black Lives Matter graphic, which he did to show support for the movement and would usually be seen as just that.

But Robinson’s social media activity has been questionable as it relates to his feelings on a potential extension. In the last couple of weeks, he’s sent out messages that could be taken as him being unhappy with his current situation. Robinson also “liked” a few Tweets recently that suggests he may be wanting out of Chicago.

Robinson knew what he was doing when he joined the Bears in 2018. The former Pro-Bowl receiver signed a three-year, $42 million deal at age 24 from Jacksonville, ensuring he would be able to sign another lucrative deal while very much still in his prime. Now in the final year of that deal, many hope he can still sign a long-term contract in Chicago, including one teammate.

Receiver/running back Cordarrelle Patterson continues his efforts to land his fellow receiver a contract extension, this time tweeting Robinson and tagging the Bears to pay the man his money.

Patterson, who is also in the final year of his contract after signing with the Bears in 2019, is more concerned with his teammate’s situation. Who can blame him?

In two full seasons, Robinson has totaled 153 catches for 1,901 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was the Bears’ offensive MVP last season, accounting for nearly one third of the team’s receiving yards, and was the only consistent threat in the passing game. He started off the 2020 season in good shape as well, catching five passes for 74 yards in Sunday’s win.

What’s more, Robinson was the Bears’ 2019 nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, an honor given to one player for his leadership and contributions to the community. Using his Within Reach Foundation, Robinson is contributing on and off the field in many ways.

Bears fans, teammates and Robinson himself are pushing for a deal to get done. However, now that the season has begun, it’s difficult to see the Bears working out an extension with their WR1 until the offseason comes around. Robinson appears willing to wait at this point. He knows he’ll get paid, but will it be by the Bears?

Bears WR Allen Robinson tweets out cryptic messages

Bears WR Allen Robinson is set to become a free agent after this season and Chicago still hasn’t gotten a contract extension done.

The Chicago Bears are officially in Week 1 preparation mode as they prepare to take on the Detroit Lions. The team was able to answer some questions in training camp, like the quarterback and cornerback situation, but they still haven’t decided on Allen Robinson’s future with the team.

Robinson is set to become a free agent after the season and many were hoping the team would get a contract extension done before the starts. We are a couple of days before kickoff, and there hasn’t been a done deal and Robinson might not be a fan of that.

As a member of the Bears, the 27-year old has been productive with 153 receptions, 1,901 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 29 games. Even though there might be frustration from Robinson with no new contract, he knows the team has a bigger goal.

Bears fans would love to see the Robinson extension as soon as possible, but there is one fan who doesn’t mind losing their star playmaker. Robinson made sure the fan knew he saw it.

It’s a no brainer that the Bears have to extend Robinson, especially since he’s was the bright spot of a offense that struggled last year. But for now, Robinson has to wait patiently and get ready for his Week 1 matchup with the Lions.

Bears WR Allen Robinson says contract extension is ‘out of my control’

If there’s anyone that’s worthy of a contract extension with the Bears, it’s WR Allen Robinson. But all he can focus on is football.

[jwplayer 2x51nG5k-ThvAeFxT]

As NFL teams are locking down foundational players to contract extensions, Bears fans are waiting for their team to lock down a fundamental part of the offense in wide receiver Allen Robinson to a long-term deal.

Robinson, who is entering the final year of his deal with the Bears, is coming off an impressive season where he recorded a career-best 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s made it clear that he wants to be in Chicago for the long-term. But, as we know, it’s a two-way street.

Robinson addressed the topic of a potential extension with the Bears. But, unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like the two sides are close to getting a deal done. For Robinson, all he can do is focus on what he can control: football.

“That’s pretty much out of my control,” Robinson said of extension talks. “Again, I can’t pinpoint anything like that. Even for me, I’ve said this before, it’s out of my concern. Last time I came in here, we had a month before a game. Now it’s 12 days or something like that. My main focus is on Detroit and this year, and I truly mean that. Any contract things change, I don’t really have an answer for that.”

Matt Nagy was asked about Robinson being in the Bears’ long-term plans, and there’s no doubt that he’d prefer to keep the receiver in Chicago for the foreseeable future.

“I hope so,” Nagy said. “I think he shows what he can do. For us, that’s Ryan and Joey. That’s their world, that’s Allen’s world. We understand there’s a whole process to that. But I know how we all feel, I know how he feels. When you produce the way that he produces and the type of person he is, those are the type of people that you want for a while.”

But, as Nagy indicated, that’s up to general manager Ryan Pace to get a deal done. And considering how valuable Robinson is to this offense and this team overall, it seems like an easy decision for Pace. All he needs to do is pull the trigger.

The Bears are signing former Vikings WR Rodney Adams

The Bears already have a crowded wide receivers room, but that isn’t stopping them from adding some more speed to the roster.

The Chicago Bears already have a crowded wide receivers room, but that isn’t stopping them from adding some more speed to the roster.

The Bears are signing former Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts wideout Rodney Adams, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Adams was reinstated earlier this year after he retired a couple of years ago.

Adams was drafted by the Vikings in the fifth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Adams spent time on Minnesota’s active roster and practice squad as a rookie, but he never saw regular-season game action.

He signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts in February 2018 and was placed on the reserve/retired list just a couple months later. After being reinstated from that list in late January 2020, Adams was waived by the Colts in August.

Bears WR Anthony Miller feels like he’s reached a new level of his game

Anthony Miller believes that he’s poised for a breakout season now that he’s been developing from the mental aspect of the game.

There’s no question that Anthony Miller has the talent to be a productive wide receiver for the Chicago Bears. The key for Miller has been the mental aspect of the game.

For Miller, this offseason has been important — and not just given he’s recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. This offseason has been about getting in the best mental shape of his pro football career. And he’s already noticed the differences from his rookie year heading into Year 3.

“When I was drafted, I was just thinking of the game as just going out there and playing,” Miller said Friday during a video call with reporters. “Not really paying attention to the depth of my route or the most small details of this game, and I was really just going out there and running and playing. But when you really understand the game and the concepts of the play and what kind of defense is back there, then it puts you on another level.”

Last season, Miller had a slow start to his second year because of just that. Miller didn’t see a ton of action in the first nine games of the season, catching only 17 passes. It was a wake-up call for Miller, who didn’t appear to be a part of the Bears’ offensive plans.

But once that light did go off, Miller went off. In a five-game stretch from Weeks 11-15, Miller totaled 33 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns in Weeks 11-15. He finished the year with 52 receptions for 656 yards and two scores.

Now, receivers coach Mike Furrey sees a different player. Someone that is more mature and wants to be the best player he can be.

“It’s just his continuing growth to understand what it takes off the field and how he’s got to prepare during the week to be able to go out and be successful and allow these things to happen in the game,” Furrey said. “I really believe he’s learned that. He’s still going to develop. We talked about this all offseason: It’s still a learning curve for him. He was allowed to get away with a lot of stuff in college, and his statistics were phenomenal. But that stuff just doesn’t work in the pros, and it’s a hard transition.

“From a maturity standpoint, from a development standpoint of learning how to be a pro, those are the things he’s working on. I think this is the first year that I actually can sense there’s an intent there. He gets it. He just had a son here a couple weeks ago. The maturity level, that helps us all grow up. There’s a lot of things that factor in his life that have allowed him to do that.”

Miller has said that he believes this will be his breakout year, and he attributes that to accepting that he’s going to have more responsibility this season and knowing where he wants to improve.

“When [Furrey] says this isn’t the playground anymore, he’s saying I have more responsibility this year within the offense, and I’m ready to take that role,” Miller said. “I’m ready for any challenge he throws my way. I don’t want to have any [missed assignments]. I want to be perfect out there on the field. I want to do each and every play right and to the best of my ability. I just want to have a smooth year as far as knowing what I’m supposed to do.”

Why Bears WR coach Mike Furrey believes this could be Anthony Miller’s breakout year

Bears WR coach Mike Furrey is confident that Anthony Miller could be due a breakout year following mental maturity.

Following a solid rookie campaign in 2018, Bears receiver Anthony Miller believed that he was primed for a breakout season in his second year. But it was clear from the start of the 2019 season that the Bears didn’t think Miller was ready.

Miller didn’t see a ton of action in the first nine games of the season, catching only 17 passes. It was a wake-up call for Miller, who didn’t appear to be a part of the Bears’ offensive plans.

“I just don’t think from a maturity standpoint, a preparation standpoint, that Anthony probably was 100% all in,” Bears receivers coach Mike Furrey told reporters last week. “I think he still had that college mentality that ability was going to be able to allow him overcome whatever he wanted to overcome in games. Talent can only get you so far when you get to the pros. You got to start learning the details of what you’re supposed to do, the quarterback’s got to trust where you’re supposed to be. I just think he was really lacking in those areas.

“You go back to that Packers game sitting there thinking one of our best players isn’t on the field. The reason why is because you can’t trust him. I think that light went off for Anthony toward the latter half of the season.”

But after that light went off, Miller was a completely different player — from a mentality standpoint that translated into impressive on-field production. In a five-game stretch from Weeks 11-15, Miller totaled 33 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns in Weeks 11-15. He finished the year with 52 receptions for 656 yards and two scores.

With Miller entering Year 3, Furrey is confident that he can finally put it all together from the start to the finish of the season.

“It’s just his continuing growth to understand what it takes off the field and how he’s got to prepare during the week to be successful and allow these things to happen during the game,” Furrey said. “I really believe he’s learned it.

“From a maturity standpoint, from a development standpoint of being a pro, those are the things he’s working on. This is the first year I can actually can sense there’s an intent there. He gets it.

“He’s a heck of a football player.”
