Why Chicago Bears Will Win

Win and get in, or lose and hope that a banged up Los Angeles Ram team can beat Arizona.

What’s different since the Bears lost to Green Bay back at the end of November? Mitchell Trubisky and the offense are working, and the running game has all of a sudden gone from the worst in the NFL to one of the best.

The offense has been simplified, it’s more about smashing away than the up-tempo passing game, and the results are there with fewer turnovers and with David Montgomery turning into a superstar. However …

Why Green Bay Packers Will Win

The running game worked against Green Bay a few weeks ago, too, and it didn’t matter.

It’s a push to say that Chicago just quit in the 41-25 loss, but the defense made a whole lot of business decisions.

Yeah, the Bear offense is better, the Green Bay run defense isn’t great, but none of that matters because Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are playing at an otherworldly level.

The Packer offense is toying with teams now, including through the snow in last week’s win over Tennessee.

Yes, Chicago is playing a whole lot better, but it was against Houston, Minnesota and Jacksonville. Green Bay is a whole different animal.

What’s Going To Happen

Green Bay cares.

It would’ve been a much easier task for Chicago if the Packers had the No. 1 seed locked up, but it has to win to lock it in. Lose, and they could miss on the all-important bye week if the Saints and/or Seahawks win.

There won’t be a problem.

Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers don’t lose big games against Chicago.

The Bears will play inspired for about a half, and then Rodgers and the passing game will go on two straight scoring drives to take over and end the drama.

Again, as good as Chicago has looked, it’s because it went against bad teams. Green Bay is just that strong.

Sean McVay has no plans to scoreboard-watch Bears vs. Packers

Sean McVay knows the Rams have to handle their business instead of hoping the Bears lose to Green Bay.

There are two very clear ways for the Rams to get into the playoffs in Week 17. They can either beat (or tie) the Cardinals, or the Packers can beat the Bears. They’re in complete control of their own fate, needing no help to get into the postseason.

And because of that, Sean McVay won’t be scoreboard watching Bears-Packers, which will also be played at 4:25 p.m. ET. He said Friday that he doesn’t want updates on the score of that game because it has no impact on how he’s going to coach against the Cardinals.

“I will not worry about it because what I’d be doing during that time has zero to do – I have no control over that, even though it potentially affects us, but it only affects us if we don’t handle our business and we have to worry about it,” he told reporters.

That doesn’t mean he’s unaware of the circumstances. He knows how much the Packers can help the Rams out, especially considering how decimated this L.A. team is. The Rams are capable of beating Arizona, but it will be much more difficult without Jared Goff, Cooper Kupp, Darrell Henderson and Michael Brockers.

For obvious reasons, McVay hopes his friend Matt LaFleur takes care of business in Chicago, potentially helping the Rams clinch a playoff berth.

“I won’t,” McVay said of whether he’ll pay attention to the Bears-Packers game. “I mean, we’re not naive to what the circumstances are surrounding that, but the reality is you don’t have to watch them if you handle your own business and that’s where our focus is. We know what a great challenge it’s going to be. Our sole focus and concentration is going to be playing to the best of our ability in all three phases against a really good Arizona Cardinals football team. If we do that and come out with the result that we want, that other game has nothing to do with it. Then we’ll see what happens on that afterwards. I’ll be rooting for my buddy Matt LaFleur, but we have to handle our own business.”

In the holiday spirit, here are six things we’re asking Santa for the Bears as they head into the remainder of the 2020 season.

With the holidays upon it, the NFL’s regular season is about to wrap up as 14 teams will prepare for the postseason. The Chicago Bears just might be one of those teams — if all goes right.

After a six-game losing streak, the Bears have found a way to play themselves back into a position where they can make the playoffs for the first time in two years. Which certainly makes things exciting heading into these final two weeks.

So in the holiday spirit, here are six things we’re asking Santa for the Bears as they head into the remainder of the 2020 season.

Chicago Bears (5-5) vs Green Bay Packers (7-3) Game Preview

Why Chicago Bears Will Win

The defense is still outstanding.

It’s not getting a lick of help from the other side of the ball, but it’s still special on third downs, it’s not allowing enough through the air, and the run defense has only allowed more than 150 yards once.

The pass rush is okay, but this has been the ultimate bend-but-don’t-break D – it’s outstanding at holding up in the red zone and forcing field goals. It’ll keep the score low and within range, but …

Why Green Bay Packers Will Win

The Chicago offense is a disaster.

The running game is the worst in the NFL, it has still only come up with two touchdown runs, and the passing game is sputtering and coughing.

Coming up with points is like pulling teeth with 23 points or fewer in each of the last seven games and 17 or fewer in four of those.

This is an explosive Green Bay attack that’s putting up points in bunches – score early, and this might be over, partly because of …

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

QB Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago
Here it is. Here’s the last shot to show that he might be worth building around after losing his job to Nick Foles and missing time with a shoulder problem. Fantasy-wise, the stats weren’t that bad in his first three games – he threw six touchdown passes and rallied back late in games to crank up the yards a bit. This week, with no running game to count on, this is hows shot against a mediocre Packer pass D.

What’s Going To Happen

Trubisky isn’t going to be all that bad, and the Chicago D will keep this in range for all four quarters, and …

Aaron Rodgers will be Aaron Rodgers. It’ll be a fight for the Packer offense, and then boom-boom-boom – a few quick passes, and here come the scoring drives. It won’t be anything pretty, but the Packers will take the sin after losing three of its last six.

NBC Sports re-airing Bears vs. Packers from Thanksgiving 2015

Bears fans can re-live the team’s 17-14 upset victory over the hated Packers on Brett Favre Night from Thanksgiving 2015 on NBC Sports.

It’s only fitting that on the anniversary of the Chicago Bears trading for the closest thing they’ve had to a franchise quarterback in decades, with Jay Cutler, that NBC Sports is re-airing a classic featuring one of Cutler’s two wins over the rival Green Bay Packers.

As part of NBC Sports’ Football Week in America, the network is airing an encore of the Bears’ 2015 Thanksgiving night victory over the hated Packers at Lambeau Field starting at 8:30 p.m. CT.

The Bears’ struggles against the Packers — particularly over the last decade — are well noted. Chicago has only beaten Green Bay four times during the 20 times that the two teams have faced each over the last 10 years.

But on this night — Brett Favre Night, of all nights — the Bears were able to stun the Packers 17-14 to cap off Thanksgiving evening.

The Bears defense were the MVPs of the game, especially in the game’s final minute. They forced four straight Aaron Rodgers incompletions and clinched the victory when Rodgers failed to find receiver Davante Adams in the endzone with :22 remaining.

As for Cutler, he completed 19 of 31 passes for 200 yards with 1 TD, no interceptions and a 90.8 passer rating. The Bears offense didn’t commit a single turnover in a rainy Thanksgiving outing.
