The Week 7 schedule for the CFL continues on Saturday with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-2) playing on the road against the BC Lions (4-1). Kickoff is 7 p.m. ET at BC Place. Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Roughriders vs. Lions odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Roughriders had their 2-game winning streak snapped with a close 33-31 home loss to Calgary. They were 1-point underdogs and the Over (43.5) hit in the game.

The Lions bounced back from their first loss of the year with a 35-19 home win over Montreal on July 9. They covered the 7.5-point spread as favorites and the Over (45.5) cashed in. It was the 4th time this season they held an opponent under 20 points.

Roughriders at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 31, Roughriders 19

Moneyline

The Roughriders will be riding without their starting quarterback for a few weeks. That will be a challenge, especially against a BC defense that has allowed fewer than 20 points in 4 of 5 games. They won all 4 of those games.

But there is no reason to make a moneyline bet at -450 for a regular season game.

PASS.

Against the spread

Three of the Lions’ 4 wins were by more than 10 points. The other was by exactly 10 points.

The Roughriders are 2-3 ATS but have failed to cover the spread in 3 of their last 4 games.

BET LIONS -10.5 (+100).

Over/Under

The Under was 3-0 in the Lions’ first 3 games, but the Over has hit in each of their last 2 games. They have scored 30 or more in 2 of their last 3 games.

The Roughriders gave up 33 in their last game.

BET OVER 45.5 (-110).

Montreal Alouettes at BC Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Montreal Alouettes vs. BC Lions odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Montreal Alouettes (2-1) and the BC Lions (3-1) meet Sunday in a Week 5 matchup at BC Place in Vancouver. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/TSN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Alouettes vs. Lions odds and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Alouettes opened the season with a pair of victories and covers, but it suffered a 17-3 loss at home against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last time out. Montreal also failed to cover as 6-point underdogs.

While Montreal lost in Week 4, it held Winnipeg’s powerful offense to just 17 points, and the Alouettes defense continues to surprise. Montreal has allowed just 13.7 points per game (PPG) through 3 outings.

The Lions opened the season a perfect 3-0 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). However, BC suffered a 45-24 setback at Toronto last weekend as 3-point favorites. The Over (47.5) easily cashed, too, halting a 3-0 Under run. In fact, BC had allowed just 21 total points in the first 3 games before the Argos rolled up the 45 points against them.

Alouettes at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 23, Alouettes 18

Moneyline

The Lions (-300) will cost 3 times the potential return, and that’s way too expensive for a standalone wager, or even as part of a multi-team parlay. There is just no value to betting such heavy moneyline wagers.

PASS.

Against the spread

MONTREAL +7.5 (-110) has struggled to rack up points, but its defense has been able to hold them in every game. It should be no different in Sunday’s cross-country trip to meet the Lions -7.5 (-110).

The Lions have been pretty consistent on offense, scoring 22 or more points in all 4 games to date. The defense struggled last week against Toronto, but it was also playing very well through the first 3 weekends. Still, Montreal should do enough to keep this within 1 score.

Over/Under

UNDER 44.5 (-110) is the lean, as both of these clubs are playing tremendous defense in the early going.

The Lions have allowed 15 or fewer points in 3 of its 4 games, posting the Under in the first 3 games before the Over result in Week 4.

For the Alouettes, the defense showed off against Winnipeg, allowing the high-octane Blue Bombers to post just 17 points. The defense has allowed a total of just 41 points through 3 games, cashing the Under twice.

BC Lions at Toronto Argonauts odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s BC Lions at Toronto Argonauts Week 4 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

To wrap up the Week 4 CFL schedule, the BC Lions (3-0) face the Toronto Argonauts (2-0) on the road Monday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. ET at BMO Field. Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Lions vs. Argonauts odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Lions have dominated through 3 weeks. They have allowed a total of 21 points in 3 games and just 6 in the last 2 weeks. They took down the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 30-6 last week as 6-point underdogs while the Under (49) cashed in.

The Argonauts have scored 75 points in 2 games. They beat Edmonton 43-31 last week as 5.5-point favorites. The Over (44.5) cashed in.

Lions at Argonauts picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 27, Argonauts 13

Moneyline

The Lions’ defense has been tremendous. They have allowed 20 fewer points than any other team and 24 fewer than the Argonauts despite playing 1 more game.

The Argonauts have not scored fewer than 32 points and the Lions have not allowed more than 15. BC shut down a Winnipeg team that had scored 42 or more through 2 weeks, holding them to only 6.

I like BC to win but at -170 odds, you have a better play with the spread.

PASS.

Against the spread

After a 10-point win to open the season, the Lions have won by 22 and 24 points respectively. They are 3-0 ATS.

The Argonauts have won both games by double digits. They are 2-0 ATS.

But after seeing BC take down Winnipeg’s offense, they have 3 weeks of dominant defensive play.

BET LIONS -3 (-115).

Over/Under

The Lions have not had a game this season surpass 40 points. Their last 2 games had totals of 22 and 36 points. The Argonauts are 1-1 O/U. Their 2 games have had totals of 46 and 74.

No team through three weeks has been able to crack 20 points against the Lions and the Lions have not scored more than 30 this season.

BET UNDER 47.5 (-110).

BC Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s BC Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers Week 3 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

Week 3 of the CFL schedule kicks off Thursday with the BC Lions (2-0) on the road against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-0). Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. ET at IG Field. Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Lions vs. Blue Bombers odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

BC has started the season strong. After a season-opening 25-15 win over Calgary as 2.5-point underdogs, they shut out Edmonton at home last week 22-0 as 7-point favorites, with the Under (46) cashing in.

The Blue Bombers opened the season with a 42-31 home win over Hamilton as 4.5-point favorites and then followed that up with a 45-27 road win over Saskatchewan as 7-point spread as favorites, with the Over (47.5) cashing in.

Lions at Blue Bombers picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Bombers 32, Lions 23

Moneyline

The Lions have been winning with defense thus far, allowing 15 points in 2 games. But the Blue Bombers offense has not been stopped, scoring 42 and 45 points in their 2 games. Even if the Lions slow the Bombers and keep them in the 30s, they have not scored more than 25 in 2 games.

I like Winnipeg for the win, but the moneyline isn’t worth the action, having to wager 2.5 times what you can win.

PASS.

Against the spread

Both teams are 2-0 ATS this season, both have won both their games by double digits aand both have won at home and on the road.

The question is whether the Lions can both score enough and slow Winnipeg’s high-flying offense.

BET BLUE BOMBERS -6.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Both of the Bombers’ games have blown way past the projected total while neither of the Lions’ games has even reached 40 total points, which is less than what Winnipeg scored in both its games.

There is no reason to believe the Bombers will slow down much and they have allowed 29.0 points per game thus far.

BET OVER 48.5 (-120).

Edmonton Elks at BC Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Edmonton Elks at BC Lions odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Edmonton Elks (0-1) and the BC Lions (1-0) battle Saturday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/CFL+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Elks vs. Lions odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Elks were on the short end of a 17-13 home loss against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 1. Edmonton was gouged for 135 rushing yards, or 5.9 yards per attempt, while it was bottled up for just 73 yards of its own on the ground. Edmonton’s O-line was also penetrated for 5 sacks.

The Lions had a much more joyous opening weekend, posting a 25-15 win on the road against the Calgary Stampeders. BC posted 123 yards on the ground, good for 5.1 yards per tote, and it had 3 sacks, so Edmonton might expect more of the same.

Elks at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 26, Elks 13

Moneyline

BC Lions (-275) are way too expensive to play straight up, costing you nearly 3 times your potential return.

The Lions should dominate this Week 2 battle, but look to the spread instead.

PASS.

Against the spread

BC LIONS -7 (-110) is a strong play, although I’d feel even more confident if this somehow slipped to 6.5.

Even without Whitehead, the speedy wideout, the Lions have more than enough offensive weapons. Dual-threat QB Vernon Adams Jr. passed for 270 yards and 2 TDs, while running for 35 yards and another score last week in Calgary. And RB Taquan Mizzell (12-81-0) is also a force out of the backfield, with WR Dominique Rhymes (8-100-2) the big play man downfield.

Edmonton +7 (-110) will have its hands full trying to slow BC, and it likely won’t do a very good job of it. The Elks have the makings of one of the worst teams in the league, while the Lions could be fighting for the Grey Cup come November.

Over/Under

UNDER 46 (-110) is a strong play in this West Division battle.

The Lions were stifling on defense against the Stamps, and Calgary showed it is a pretty decent team with a Week 2 win in Ottawa.

The Elks were poor offensively at home against Saskatchewan, and it is unlikely to be able to generate much against a strong Lions D which allowed just 235 total net yards of offense, and 4.9 yards per play, last weekend.

Lions at Stampeders picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 26, Stampeders 18

Moneyline

The Lions beat the Stampeders twice in the regular season and once in the playoffs last year.

Before the playoff matchup, the road team had won 7 consecutive games in the matchup. The road team has won 8 of the last 10 meetings of the 2 teams.

The Lions are the healthier team in the opener.

BET LIONS (+125).

Against the spread

The outright winner in the matchup has covered the spread in 3 straight meetings and in 8 of the last 10.

In 2022, the Lions were 11-7 ATS in the regular season while the Stamps were 9-8-1 ATS.

Because we like the underdog Lions to win outright, you get much better odds on the moneyline than on an ATS wager.

PASS.

Over/Under

BC was 8-9-1 O/U during last year’s regular season. Calgary was 11-7 O/U.

The Over/Under split 5-5 in their last 10 meetings and was 2-2 in their 4 matchups last season.

Being that this is the season opener, expect the defenses to be a little ahead of offenses.

BET UNDER 50.5 (-105).

BC Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s BC Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The BC Lions (1-2) visit the Ottawa RedBlacks (1-1) Saturday for the second game of the CFL’s Week 4 with both teams looking to shake off a loss from last week. Kickoff at TD Place will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Lions vs. RedBlacks odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Lions fell 21-16 to the previously winless Edmonton Elks at home Aug. 19. They’ve alternated wins and losses through three weeks while QB Michael Reilly (elbow) has battled injury.

The RedBlacks upset the Elks 16-12 on the road in Week 1 but suffered a 23-10 road loss against the Saskatchewan Roughriders following a Week 2 bye. QB Matt Nichols has been a major disappointment with just 247 passing yards, no touchdowns and 1 interception through two games.

Lions at RedBlacks odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

RedBlacks 22, Lions 19

Money line

Back the RedBlacks (+160) as home underdogs against the banged-up Lions. In addition to Reilly being limited at practice all week, RBs James Butler (ankle) and Shaq Cooper (hamstring) were limited; WR Lemar Durant (knee) returned to a full practice Thursday.

Though Ottawa is struggling mightily to put points on the board, the defense has been strong and should be able to contain a Lions offense at less than full health.

Against the spread

If the money line upset prediction seems too brazen, back the REDBLACKS +4.5 (-120) with 4 points of insurance.

Ottawa hasn’t given up a passing touchdown through two games and is well-built to handle BC’s one-sided attack.

Over/Under

The UNDER 43.5 (-120) is the way to go on the low total. Both teams have injuries at key skill positions, Nichols has struggled to move the chains and Reilly has just 1 passing TD despite completing 71.6% of his passes for 673 yards.

Edmonton Elks at BC Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Edmonton Elks at BC Lions matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The Edmonton Elks (0-2) visit the BC Lions (1-1) Thursday to open Week 3 in the CFL. Kickoff at BC Place is set for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Elks vs. Lions odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

Edmonton will try its luck on the road for the first time this season after being upset 16-12 at home by the Ottawa RedBlacks in Week 1 and falling 30-13 to the Montreal Alouettes last week. The losses have come despite the Elks ranking second in yards per game for (371.0) and first in passing YPG against (141.0). QB Trevor Harris‘ 3 interceptions haven’t helped.

The Lions have a league-high 409.0 yards per game on offense as a banged up QB Michael Reilly has completed 75.4% of his passes for 545 yards and 1 touchdown against no interceptions. Backup Nathan Rourke threw for 194 yards and 2 TDs against 2 INTs in Week 1’s 33-29 shootout loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Elks at Lions odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Elks 27, Lions 22

Money line

Back the ELKS (+140) to get their first win of 2021 as underdogs for the first time.

Edmonton scored just 12 and 13 points in its first two games of the season, respectively, but should be able to find the end zone with more regularity against a BC team that allowed a league-high 33 points to the Roughriders in Week 1. Harris has thrown for a league-high 566 yards through two games but has been lucky with untimely interceptions.

Elks RB James Wilder is also the league rushing leader with 174 yards on the ground and that balanced attack just needs the defense to be adequate against the Lions with Reilly (elbow) listed as questionable once again.

Against the spread

The half-point hook on this line is enough insurance to back the ELKS +3.5 (-120) with a 3-point cushion in the event of a loss.

Along with Reilly being questionable for the Lions, RB James Butler (ankle) was ruled out Wednesday. He’s his team’s leading rusher, albeit in a balanced ground attack.

Over/Under

The Under has been the dominant trend in the CFL through two weeks but the opening line of Week 3 seems to have overcorrected in a matchup of two teams who’ve already allowed 30 or more points in a game this season.

Back the OVER 46.5 (-120) regardless of who’s under center for the Lions.

BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The BC Lions (0-1) visit the Calgary Stampeders (0-1) Thursday to begin Week 2 of the 2021 CFL season. Kickoff will be at 9:30 p.m. ET at McMahon Stadium. Below, we look at the Lions at Stampeders odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

Both teams took a loss last week in their first games in nearly two years. The Lions fell 33-29 on the road against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL’s highest-scoring game of Week 1. The Stamps were upset at home 23-20 by the Toronto Argonauts.

Calgary and BC finished second and fifth, respectively, in the West Division in 2019. The Stampeders lost 35-14 to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the West Semifinal.

Lions at Stampeders odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Stampeders 29, Lions 20

Money line

The Stampeders (-350) are a safe bet to win and avoid falling to 0-2 on their home field; however, we can’t bet the chalky money line with the risk far outweighing the reward.

Stampeders QB Bo Levi Mitchell went 23-for-35 with 1 touchdown against 1 interception and didn’t take a sack last week against the Argos. He should have little problem against a Lions defense that gave up 33 points in the season opener.

Additionally, the Lions will be starting rookie QB Nathan Rourke in place of the injured Mike Reilly. Rourke went 10-for-18 for 194 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs in the season-opening loss to the ‘Riders.

Against the spread

Hand the STAMPEDERS -6.5 (-133) a major edge in the quarterback battle and home-field advantage, and back them to win by at least 7 points.

Calgary beat BC in both head-to-head meetings in 2019.

Over/Under

Back the OVER 47.5 (-133) with the line dropping 2 points from opening at 49.5 Thursday morning.

The Lions defense was torched in Week 1. Should Mitchell be as well protected as he was in the opener he’ll lead multiple scoring drives.

Rourke also looked adequate in his first CFL action last week. Calgary registered just one sack against Toronto and will need to get considerably more pressure to rattle the rookie.
