On3 projects Texas A&M to flip LSU linebacker commit

Xavier Atkins was expected to attend Bayou Splash, but he opted to head to College Station, instead.

The Tigers have quite a bit of momentum on the recruiting trail right now, but they may be on the verge of losing a commitment.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine now projects that four-star linebacker commit [autotag]Xavier Atkins[/autotag] will flip to Texas A&M with that prediction holding at 82.6% confidence.

Atkins was expected to be one of the visitors for the busy Bayou Splash recruiting event this weekend, but he ultimately opted to attend a pool party in College Station instead. Following that decision, LSU insiders Shea Dixon and Billy Embody issued flip predictions, seemingly signaling an incoming decision.

If Atkins does choose to flip to the Aggies, it’s a loss the Tigers could handle. He ranks inside the top 300 nationally according to On3, but LSU has a good linebacker class headlined by top-250 players in [autotag]Tylen Singleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Kolaj Cobbins[/autotag].

OL Elyjah Thurmon reacts to ‘amazing’ Bayou Splash offer

Elyjah Thurmon was one of the first players to receive an offer during a busy recruiting weekend.

One of the busiest recruiting weekends of the year for LSU is underway as it has a star-studded visitor list in town for Bayou Splash.

Among the players in attendance from the 2024 class was four-star Georgia offensive lineman [autotag]Elyjah Thurmon[/autotag], who picked up an offer from the Tigers on Friday while in Baton Rouge.

Florida is considered the favorite to land Thurmon, but perhaps the LSU offer will change things. He told On3’s Billy Embody (subscription required) that the offer was “amazing.”

Thurmon also offered high praise of offensive line coach [autotag]Brad Davis[/autotag].

He’s camped with quite a few schools this summer, and he told On3 that he plans to trim his list down on Aug. 1 or 2.

LSU currently has just two offensive linemen committed in the 2024 class and only one interior player.

LSU kicks off massive Bayou Splash recruiting weekend Friday

The Tigers will hope to make a strong impression with many of their top targets on campus this weekend.

With the summer winding down and the start of the 2023 season right around the corner, this weekend will prove to be one of the most crucial recruiting windows in this cycle.

It’s the annual Bayou Splash event in Baton Rouge, and LSU welcomes a truly staggering visitor list to campus. In addition to a number of commits and prospects in future cycles, the Tigers have many of their top remaining targets on campus this week.

LSU will hope it can make an impact on players such as five-stars [autotag]Colin Simmons[/autotag] and [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], top Louisiana prospects [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag] and [autotag]Wardell Mack[/autotag], as well as priority offensive line target [autotag]Ory Williams[/autotag].

The Tigers have a solid class in 2024 so far, but the 20-man group ranks just outside the top 10. If LSU can bring in some of its top targets from this weekend’s event, it will almost certainly surge into the top 10.

LSU hoping Bayou Splash makes strong impression on elite running back target

LSU will hope to secure the last two visits for top-100 running back Caden Durham.

Duncanville (Tex.) edge rusher [autotag]Colin Simmons[/autotag] will be the biggest name on hand for LSU’s Bayou Splash recruiting event this weekend as the Tigers try to land the elite five-star prospect.

However, the Tigers will also be working to make a strong impression on Simmons’ high school teammate, four-star running back [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], who will also be in attendance.

The race for Durham seems to be down to LSU and Oklahoma. The Sooners hosted him for an official visit back in June and thought they may be able to close things out, according to On3’s Shea Dixon, but he instead took an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge the final month of June.

Now, he’s back for what could potentially be his final visit before he decides on August 25. The current dead period ends on Tuesday, beginning a week-long “quiet period” in which teams can host visitors.

Another dead period begins again on August 1 and runs the entire month, meaning Durham would have a very limited window to make a return trip to Norman.

Durham ranks inside the top 100 nationally and is a top-10 running back in the 2024 class. Oklahoma is currently the leader per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine at 66.2% while LSU sits at 27.9%.

However, if LSU can secure his final two visits, coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has to like his team’s chances of landing Durham.

LSU quarterback commit Colin Hurley to attend Bayou Splash next weekend

Colin Hurley will put on his recruiting hat once again this weekend.

With the dead period coming to an end this week, next weekend is set to be a huge recruiting opportunity for LSU with many of its commits and top targets on hand for Bayou Splash.

Included in the former group will be quarterback commit [autotag]Colin Hurley[/autotag]. The Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy four-star has had a busy summer already as he competed in the Elite 11 in Oregon back in June.

He’s also taken multiple trips to Baton Rouge, and he was on a June trip with then-offensive tackle prospect [autotag]Ethan Calloway[/autotag], who has since committed.

“I’ve built a relationship with a bunch of the current players,” Hurley said earlier this summer, according to On3’s Billy Embody. “They’re working hard, lifting and it really looks like things are going well within the team. As far as recruiting, you’ll see a few things come from this weekend. We had two great dinners, too — one at Tiger Stadium and another at coach Kelly’s house.”

LSU will hope Hurley’s visit pays off on the recruiting front once again.
