Baylor vs Oklahoma State Game Preview

Why Baylor Will Win

The Bears are great at getting on the offensive boards. Usually teams get lots to rebounds on the offensive glass because they miss, but the Bears are doing just fine from the field, too.

They just have to be consistent.

Oklahoma State doesn’t do anything from the outside, and it’s having consistency problems inside, too.

It’s not getting to the free throw line on a regular basis, it doesn’t take or make enough threes. There are times when the Cowboys go through painful lulls when the shots just aren’t falling inside or out.

The Bears are still rebounding just fine – but not quite the same – without Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, the backcourt is able to force enough mistakes to matter, and the ball movement continues to be among the best in the Big 12.

However …

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

The Cowboys were able to get Baylor on the road the first time around, and now they get the game in Stillwater.

It was a stunning end to a rough 2-6 run, hitting close to 45% from the field and doing a great job defensively in the 61-54 win. That wasn’t just a rare loss for Baylor, it was a rare road win for Oklahoma State.

The team is far better in Gallagher-Iba, but beyond that, it needs to simply be better from the field.

It’s been struggling way too much to get past 45% – forget about the shooting from three – but the defense has been solid, there are a whole lot of blocked shots and steals, and the team should be able to match what Baylor brings with its aggressive backcourt. And …

What’s Going To Happen

Baylor will run out of gas on the road.

It’ll be good at getting on the move and the defense will keep Oklahoma State from doing anything great, but again, this is a different Cowboy team when it’s not away from home.

It’s not going to be anything pretty, but at this point in a rough year, Oklahoma State will happily take the tough victory.

Baylor vs Oklahoma State Game Preview

Why Baylor Will Win

There’s the Baylor win we were all waiting for in the Dave Aranda era.

2020 was supposed to be a total rebuild, and beating Texas State, Texas Southern, and Kansas was no big deal to start 2021.

Baylor 31, Iowa State 29, and now the program is 4-0 with a chance to make an even bigger splash.

The offense might not have rolled against the Cyclones, but the D held firm and the O made the most o every opportunity.

Forget the overall stats – again, look at Baylor’s first three games – but the passing game really is efficient enough to at least keep the chains moving. However …

Week 5 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Talk about forgetting the numbers and just watching the team, Oklahoma State hasn’t played the same type of game twice.

It couldn’t throw against Boise State, but the running game was great. The passing attack was terrific against Kansas State, but running was hard, and there wasn’t much of anything happening against Tulsa.

There hasn’t been a whole lot of pretty about this, but the Cowboys are able to move the ball with a good offensive line, a nice downfield passing game in key spots, and enough of a run defense to get by.

Every game has been a bit of a fight – including the opener against SE Missouri State – but if QB Spencer Sanders is on, Oklahoma State has the offensive pop that Baylor won’t bring to Stillwater.

Week 5 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma State is going to keep on doing what it does.

It’s not going to pull away to ever get comfortable, but Baylor’s defense will have a little bit to do with that. The Bears, though, won’t be able to keep up after the Cowboys come up with a few good second half scoring drives.

It’ll still take a full four quarters to get it done, but Oklahoma State will get to 5-0 for the first time since 2015.

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

How can the Cowboys slow down the nation’s No. 1 team on a 19-game winning streak? They have to drag this down and make it a defensive fight.

They don’t have the shooting ability to keep up if this gets into an up-and-down fight, but they’re decent at forcing takeaways, they’re great at slowing down teams from hitting from three, and they’re not bad on the boards.

There’s just enough offensive balance at guard to keep up the pressure, but …

Why Baylor Will Win

The offense might not come out and hang 100 on the board, but it’s consistent, can hit from three when it needs to, and it’s managing to produce by not screwing up. The Bears just don’t give up easy points; they don’t give the ball away.

Oklahoma State isn’t accurate enough. It’s lousy from three, it doesn’t have enough of an inside presence to make up for it, the Baylor D isn’t one to get healthy against.

What’s Going To Happen

At home, Baylor will keep the fun going with its defense keeping down the mediocre Cowboy offense for long periods of time. All it will take is one big run to get ahead and stay there – OSU won’t have the pop from three to come back in the second half.
