WATCH: Texans practice in Battle Red helmets on Day 2 of training camp

The Houston Texans broke out their Battle Red helmets for the second day of training camp practice.

The Houston Texans weren’t waiting for Nov. 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football to bust out their new helmets.

The Texans sported their new Battle Red helmets on the second day of training camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

The Texans’ helmets have always been Deep Steel Blue since the team’s 2002 inception. While Houston has had a variety of uniform variations in that span, the helmet has always remained the same.

Houston’s red helmets will be worn with the club’s Battle Red uniforms. However, the club just could not wait to let Texans fans have a glimpse of what the new Battle Red helmets look like in live action.

Should the Texans consider merging their Color Rush and Battle Red jerseys?

A glimpse at a fun jersey combination begs the question: should the Houston Texans merge their Color Rush and Battle Red jerseys?

The Houston Texans are one of the more unique teams in the NFL in that they have four different uniform tops: Deep Steel Blue, Liberty White, Battle Red, and their Color Rush.

Houston will breakout the Liberty White tops with white pants for their first home game of the season, and then go along with the rest of the NFL with having a darker jersey with white pants for the remainder of the home games.

Exceptions include the Color Rush jerseys, which are worn twice a year, and their Battle Red jerseys, which are worn once a season.

What if the Texans were to merge their Battle Red look and make it their new Color Rush scheme?

Texans Radio play-by-play voice Marc Vandermeer posted a concept on Twitter Wednesday that conveys an interesting idea.

The Texans had a mannequin with a red top with white letters, white pants, and a red helmet.

What if Houston made that their new Color Rush scheme? The Texans could also use it for more than simply Battle Red Day, or make a select trio of games throughout the season Battle Red Days.

Aside from the introduction of the Battle Red jerseys in 2003 and the Color Rush scheme in 2017, the Texans’ jerseys have remained unchanged since their inaugural season in 2002.

4 jersey changes the Texans need to make for the 2020 season

The Houston Texans need to make four changes to their jerseys for the 2020 season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons have unveiled their latest uniforms, which begs the question on the mind of every Houston sports fan: when will the Texans upgrade their look?

The Texans already have some of the nicer looking uniform combinations in the NFL. However, they should make these four changes for the 2020 season.

1. Make the color rush jerseys permanent home jerseys

Since 2017, the Texans have busted out their color rush jerseys for prime time games or when they play the Cleveland Browns. The Texans are 5-0 in these jerseys.

Instead of wearing them for special occasions, Houston should make these the permanent home jerseys at NRG Stadium. The look still holds true to the color scheme of red, blue, and a little bit of white, but also gives a more upgraded look. They are also very emblematic of the Deshaun Watson era as he is the only Texans starting quarterback to wear these jerseys, and his first start of his career came in them in Week 2 of 2017.
