Bart Scott is very, very upset that Joe Burrow trounced his Ravens twice

The former Ravens defender, now an analyst, is not thrilled with Joe Burrow.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw for a franchise-record 525 yards in the Week 16 win over the Baltimore Ravens, completing a season sweep that saw him beat an opponent twice so soundly in one season that it made NFL history.

After, Burrow and other Bengals said they weren’t sorry for running up the score.

And Bart Scott is very upset about it.

Scott who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012 and hasn’t played for the Ravens since 2008, is now an analyst for ESPN’s “Get Up” and just had a heated exchange with other entertainers while discussing Burrow.

To sum it up, Bart says the Ravens will be seeking revenge on Burrow. Interestingly, his take included words like “killers” and “red dots” and “headhunters” when talking about what the Baltimore defense will want to do to Burrow.

“The last thing you want to do is poke the bear…you won a lifetime a** kicking from the Baltimore Ravens…our rival is the Pittsburgh Steelers…it’s called red dot. Every former Raven understands what red dot means.”

In other words, Scott is coping publicly with the fact his Ravens got beat up twice, along with some flirtations with some irresponsible talk to boot.

Luckily, Burrow and Co. will probably laugh it off just like Bart’s co-hosts did.

What will Bart Scott do if the Eagles beat the 49ers?

Bart Scott made an outlandish claim about what he would do if the Eagles beat the 49ers

It’s to the point where anyone will say or do almost anything to get noticed, right?

Former NFL star Bart Scott, a current ESPN radio host, and analyst is never shy.

However, he may be shy one eyebrow if a result happens in Week 2 of the NFL season on Sunday.

Scott went off on the network’s “Get Up!” show Thursday in a charged discussion with Damien Woody and he put up one of his eyebrows if the Philadelphia Eagles down the San Francisco 49ers at the Linc on Sunday.

Thanks to NJ.com for the transcription:

“Everybody’s in love with Jalen Hurts this week. Everybody went out and bought jerseys. Jersey sales up 500%. But I tell you, I bet you the Philadelphia Eagles fans didn’t do? They didn’t pop that tag off. They tucked it in. Because this week, they’re going to be returning all those jerseys because they’ve got the San Francisco 49ers that look elite. So listen, don’t worry about it. … Listen, I bet you that if the 49ers lose to the Eagles, I’ll shave my eyebrow off. What say you? What say you! What say you! … Put your money where your mouth is, D-Wood. Put your eyebrows up! Right or left one, I don’t care!”

Bart Scott claims the ‘ceiling isn’t that high’ for Patriots QB Mac Jones

“Tell me the last Alabama quarterback who came into this league and took the league by storm.”

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqby79hc76t2s390 player_id=none image=https://patriotswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Mac Jones earned an unreal amount of praise throughout the offseason.

The No. 15 overall pick won the starting role over Cam Newton for the New England Patriots following a tremendous preseason — where he finished as the highest-graded rookie quarterback. He has the second-best selling jersey in the entire NFL and his teammates are treating him like he’s a seasoned veteran.

The only thing left for him now is to produce during the regular season. Bill Belichick constructed a team with an elite defense, along with an offense that is perfectly equipped for a rookie — starting with a top-tier offensive line. So, what could go wrong?

Former NFL linebacker and current ESPN analyst Bart Scott doesn’t think Jones will pan out as the player he’s projected to be.

“The growth is going to be stunted for a little while, because the ceiling isn’t that high for Mac Jones,” Scott said on ESPN Radio’s ‘Bart & Hahn’ show, transcribed by WEEI. “When you get an Alabama player, you get a player who’s pro-ready, but a player who’s close to being pretty much who he’s going to be, because he’s going to get tremendous coaching, he’s going to have tremendous football acumen. Tell me the last Alabama quarterback who came into this league and took the league by storm.”

While history isn’t on the side of Alabama quarterbacks, Jones appears to be special. He was patient, learned from those before him (Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts) and went out when his time was ready with record-breaking performances. Jones finished last season with 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and only three interceptions in a year that Alabama won the national championship.

He defied odds by beating out Newton this season and his trajectory is sky-high currently. Of course, Alabama doesn’t have a great track record. But, Jones is proving every day that he can be the exception.

Bart Scott thinks Jets should stick with Sam Darnold: ‘He’s a franchise quarterback’

Ex-Jets linebacker Bart Scott believes in Sam Darnold and thinks his former team should stick with the 23-year-old quarterback under center.

Count Bart Scott among those who would like to see the Jets run it back with Sam Darnold.

While Zach Wilson to the Jets seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point, Scott doesn’t believe the decision-makers at One Jets Drive have come to that unanimous decision just yet.

“I think it’s a struggle going on within the building,” Scott said during an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up. “I believe that some people want Zach Wilson and some people want Sam Darnold. I think Sam Darnold is 23 years old, he has the opportunity for the first time to have a good football coach, a good environment around him.”

The former Jets linebacker isn’t ready to throw the towel in on Darnold just yet. He believes that fans are ready to give up on Darnold because Wilson is the “shiny new toy,” but that was Darnold just three years ago.

Scott doesn’t buy into the narrative that the Jets should let Darnold’s fifth-year option get in the way of the team’s decision. He views it as a discount compared to what the current going rate is for a star quarterback.

Scott has seen his fair share of quarterbacks throughout his 11-year NFL career and as an analyst with ESPN. He’s a self-proclaimed “authority” on bad quarterback play in the league and while Darnold’s coming off the worst season of his career, he doesn’t fall under that umbrella in Scott’s eyes.

“Listen, I am an expert in horrible quarterbacks,” Scott said. “I know one when I see one, and Sam Darnold is not a horrible quarterback. He’s a franchise quarterback. I’ve been around enough bums to know who’s a good quarterback. He just needs some protection and opportunity to learn and grow underneath a great, offensive-minded coach.”

NFL analyst believes the Bears are Super Bowl contenders if they trade for Carson Wentz

Bart Scott says the Bears would be Super Bowl contenders with Carson Wentz

The Carson Wentz trade rumors are still in full flow and one former NFL linebacker turned analyst is all in on the Bears acquiring the Eagles disgruntled quarterback.

Bart Scott was a guest on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ and was asked about the Bears playoff chances if they acquired Carson Wentz.

The former Ravens and Jets linebacker went beyond the playoffs, proclaiming the Bears Super Bowl contenders with Wentz.

“I mean I know Wentz [didn’t have] the best season last year, but come on… Mitchell Trubisky?” Scott said on ESPN’s “Get Up!” on Monday morning. “This is great upgrade. You think about what he was. He’s a guy that was sacked 50 times. We saw Patrick Mahomes become a mere mortal when he didn’t have protection, but that’s exactly what Carson Wentz had to endure in Philadelphia.

“This is a team that got old, went all in for a championship. They won the championship and everyone around him got old… I mean he’s trying to throw to DeSean Jackson who’s like a Ferrari — yea, it’s beautiful, but the check engine light is always on. So, you think about, if he goes to Chicago, that makes Chicago, I believe, a Super Bowl contender.”

2017 form or not, Wentz would need Allen Robinson and a host of other weapons offense to truly morph into a Super Bowl contender, but crazier things have happened and it would be so 2021.

ESPN’s Bart Scott calls for the firing of Bill Belichick, the general manager

This is about a hot of a take as there can be.

Bill Belichick, fired?

On ESPN’s ‘Get Up’, analyst Bart Scott made his argument that Belichick should be fired from his general manager position. The 68-year-old legendary head coach has held down both positions over his time with the New England Patriots and it’s led to nine Super Bowl appearances, with six wins.

But, is Belichick to earn all the credit for it? Scott argues that Tom Brady simply made everyone better and was the reason that Belichick could get away with poorly doing his job as the general manager. ESPN made the point that the Patriots haven’t drafted a Pro Bowler since 2013.

Here’s Scott’s argument behind this bold statement.

The Patriots are now 2-4 without Brady — the 43-year-old that is 5-2 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and having one of his best starts to a season in recent memory. With injuries at the already-slim wide receiver position, Cam Newton is positioned to head into Sunday’s matchup with Damiere Byrd, Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski.

The tight end position consists of Ryan Izzo and two rookies (Dalton Keene, Devin Asiasi). Aside from Stephon Gilmore and some defensive talent, the Patriots don’t really have any star players on the roster right now. Of course, some of it’s due to the league-high opt-outs and the slew of star players that left in the offseason.

Belichick has coached up many young players he drafted and set them up for huge contracts with other teams, or even in New England. It’s hard to put this pressure on Belichick right now, given the COVID-19 complications and the reciprocal effect of Brady’s departure.

Scott has some decent points, but this isn’t the time to hit the panic button and take away half of Belichick’s responsibilities.

Former Raven Bart Scott: ‘To mention Troy Polamalu in the same breath as Ed Reed… it’s disrespectful’

The former Ravens linebacker feels it’s disrespectful to mention Steelers Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu together with Ed Reed.

Bart Scott is clearly bitter. Bitter about his own average career, bitter about losing to the Steelers in the playoffs (twice), bitter about playing second fiddle to Ray Lewis while in Baltimore.

On Bleacher Report’s The Lefkoe Show, host Adam Lefkoe asked Scott: “When you’re around greatness, is it hard to hear other people called great?”

Scott began his answer by saying that there are different levels of greatness and, therefore, there should be different wings of the Hall of Fame. The former Ravens and Jets linebacker first brought up Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu. “Troy Polamalu is very deserving of going to the Hall of Fame but to mention Troy Polamalu in the same breath as Ed Reed? To me, it’s disrespectful.”

In an attempt to explain why he feels it’s disrespectful, Scott talks in circles.

The segment caused a heated debate among NFL fans on social media. Troy’s former teammate, linebacker Vince Williams, also brought up several valid points:

Bart Scott thought of life after football when he signed with Jets

Former Jets linebacker joined Jets partly because he wanted to have an easily transition to his life after football.

It came as somewhat of a shock when Bart Scott signed with the Jets over his former team, the Ravens, in 2009. Scott had his reasons, though.

After taking a team-friendly deal to stay with the Ravens in 2006, Scott finally wanted to cash in during free agency. The Jets offered him a six-year deal worth $48 million, as did the Ravens. However, with Scott’s former defensive coordinator, Rex Ryan, becoming the Jets head coach, the linebacker gave New York serious consideration. That made him realize that the big city could help him once his playing days were over.

Scott took advantage of being in the biggest media market in the world following his 11-year NFL career. He was with CBS Sports for five years before joining ESPN Radio New York. He currently has a show with Alan Hahn.

“You think it’s a coincidence that half the [ex-players] in media are from New York? It’s not an accident,” Scott told ESPN. “It helped brand me on the big stage. ‘OK, we’ll take the loudmouth’ because we had success. We didn’t call ourselves the Dream Team and get our asses kicked. People might say we talked s—, but guess what — we were damn fun to watch.”

The first two years of Scott’s Jets career were some of the best moments in team history. New York made the AFC Championship game in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010. Scott was part of one of the best defenses of all-time, playing alongside Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie in their primes.

Scott took a chance coming to New York. Despite not winning a Super Bowl with the Jets, it’s fair to say he’s doing well in his life after football.

Ex-Jets LB Bart Scott rips Jordan Jenkins

Ex-Jets linebacker Bart Scott went on Rich Cimini’s ESPN podcast to rip current Jets OLB Jordan Jenkins and questioned his production.

Bart Scott has never been afraid to speak his mind. Now that that the former Jets linebacker is an ESPN personality, don’t expect that to change.

Scott showed no such signs of doing so when he appeared on Rich Cimini’s Flight Deck podcast this week. During their conversation, Scott elected took some shots at Jordan Jenkins, New York’s pending free agent outside linebacker.

Scott went as far as to question Jenkins’ production and viewed some of the sacks as “layups” due to Gregg Williams’ coverage schemes. Here is what Scott had to say about Jenkins on Cimini’s podcast:

“I don’t know about Jordan Jenkins. I appreciate what he’s done but come on man those sacks were atta boy. Those weren’t meaningful sacks, they were coverage sacks. If you rush the passer 500 times a couple of those are going to be layups and he got a couple of those.

I think they definitely have to upgrade that position. The Jets can’t afford to use some of that equity on a player that we already know what his ceiling is.”

New York has just over $50 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap, which can increase to over $80 million if the team elects to make obvious cap casualties of players like Trumaine Johnson and Brian Winters. There should be room to re-sign Jenkins if the Jets want to, but Scott is clearly advising against that.

In four years with the Jets, Jenkins has complied 100 total tackles, 20.5 sacks, seven passes defended and six forced fumbles. His 2019 season was the best to date, as Jenkins compiled 21 total tackles, eight sacks, three passes defended and two forced fumbles.

Being a part of the same draft class as Darron Lee and Christian Hackenberg, the 25-year-old Jenkins has been viewed as one of Mike Maccagnan’s better draft choices.

Jenkins has produced immense value as a former third-round pick and seemed to be finally blossoming under a new defensive coordinator. Jenkins is never going to be a player that flirts with double-digit sack numbers, but he can definitely be a valuable player on defense that sets the edge if the Jets find an upgrade that can complement him this offseason.

Whether he is worth a new deal is up for Joe Douglas to decide, not Scott. However, Jenkins obviously does not have a former Jets linebacker on his side.

Bart Scott says Andy Dalton would make a good Tom Brady replacement for Patriots

Here’s an interesting idea about Tom Brady and Andy Dalton.

Andy Dalton’s future with the Cincinnati Bengals is up for debate with the team clutching the 2020 draft’s first pick. Theories about his playing future continue to circulate.

A new one? Dalton joining the New England Patriots to replace Tom Brady.

This one comes courtesy of Bart Scott on ESPN’s Get Up during a discussion about who should replace Brady if he goes to a different team or retires.

The discussion unfolds in the video above (starts at the 4:10 mark). Scott’s reasoning:

“I think Andy Dalton’s a guy who has had a lot of experience, lots of success in this league. I think he fits the mold. I think he’s still a mobile quarterback. He’s going to be available. I think Andy Dalton’s the guy I would go with because he has experience in the AFC.”

It’s hard to imagine Brady would up and leave the Patriots at this point before his age-43 season, but there’s no denying he’s finally regressed to a degree, especially under pressure.

As for Dalton, the theories generally span ideas he’d go start somewhere else or perhaps stick around for his final year under contract in a mentor role. He wanted a trade after getting benched but was eventually reinserted into the starting lineup. Obviously, he wants to start somewhere and pairing with Bill Belichick would be an opportunity most passers would jump at.

Dalton’s departure, be it cut or trade, seems likely and when it comes to drafting his replacement, as Scott would put it, Bengals fans can’t wait.
