Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (4-3) host the Boston Red Sox (4-3) Saturday for Game 2 of their three-game set at Camden Yards. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Red Sox vs. Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Boston won Game 1 of the series 7-3 Thursday in LHP Eduardo Rodríguez’s first start since 2019. Rodriguez pitched 5 innings and struck out 7 with no walks and surrendered 3 earned runs (two home runs) on 4 hits.

  • Season series: Red Sox 1-0.

RHP Garrett Richards (0-1) makes his second start of the season Saturday for the Red Sox. Richards got shelled for 6 earned on 7 hits with 2 strikeouts and walks over just 2 innings pitched against the Orioles in his first start Sunday.

  • Career vs. Orioles: 0-5 with a 6.82 ERA and 1.58 WHIP (31 2/3 IP, 24 ER, 42 H, 24 K, 8 BB) across 5 starts and 4 relief appearances.

LHP Bruce Zimmermann (1-0) is on the rubber for the Orioles. He won his first start last weekend vs. Richards and the Red Sox.

He pitched 6 innings, struck out 5 and walked just 1 while giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits.

Red Sox at Baltimore odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 2 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Red Sox -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Orioles +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Red Sox -1.5 (+110) | Orioles +1.5 (-135)
  • Over/Under: 9.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Orioles 7, Red Sox 5

Money line (ML)

The ORIOLES’ (+115) lineup has been pretty lousy to start the season, but they got to Richards last weekend and I like Baltimore to hit him well again Saturday.

Baltimore hitters picked up on Richards’ stuff well; the Orioles have the third-highest out-of-the-zone swing rate on the season at 34.3% but, against Richards last week, they had a 14.3% out-of-the-zone swing rate.

So while Baltimore’s .636 BABIP against Richards might be taken as “flukey” by some MLB handicappers, I’m factoring it in heavily because these bad Orioles hitters keyed in on Richards’ stuff.

Zimmermann is making his third career start and MLB hitters aren’t yet familiar with him, as a result, his advanced and Statcast metrics were impressive vs. Boston.

The 26-year-old righty got Red Sox hitters to swing out of the strike zone on 45% of his pitches and Statcast grades Zimmermann’s chase rate in the 97th percentile after his first start against Boston.

I was entertaining taking Baltimore on the first 5 innings line but the Orioles had a higher hard-hit rate against the relievers Boston used after Richards last weekend.

GIMME ORIOLES (+115) for a half-unit only because Baltimore’s run line is a better wager.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

It’s just wise to take ORIOLES +1.5 (-135) for 1 unit since Baltimore is a winning team with a minus-2 run differential. Obviously, the Orioles could choke a lead late.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 9.5 (-110) for one-fifth of a unit because Boston’s lineup is solid whereas Baltimore just does well against Richards.

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (3-2) and New York Yankees (3-2) close out their AL East weekday series Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP John Means is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. In 2020, he went 2-4 with a 4.53 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 8.7 K/9, and 1.4 BB/9 in 43 2/3 IP over 10 starts. Means was sharp in his 2021 debut, allowing only 1 hit over 7 scoreless innings while striking out 5 against the Boston Red Sox April 2.

RHP Jameson Taillon toes the slab for the first time since May 1, 2019. Taillon missed all of 2020 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He owns a 3.67 ERA over 82 career starts.

Orioles at Yankees odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Orioles +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Yankees -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +1.5 (-120) | Yankees -1.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Yankees 4, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

New York struggled against southpaws a year ago, and Means was certainly sharp in his season debut. Taillon is a big question mark, although he did fan 14 batters over 8 1/3 IP in spring training.

Albeit in a small sample, he does have a history of getting off to good starts in April (3.68 ERA in 17 March/April starts), and Wednesday, Taillon is supported by the best arms in the Yankees bullpen. Wins by scores of 7-0 and 7-2 Monday and Tuesday did not stress the back end of New York’s relief corps.

The lines here figure to bracket the true odds on both sides. PASS.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

There isn’t a ton to like about this play either, but the most likable side of the four (the ML and run-line wagers) is BALTIMORE +1.5 (-120).

It’s an inexpensive play on Means as a solid breakout candidate for 2021 and an acknowledgment of the Yanks’ potential struggles against left-handers and the conservative approach with Taillon.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Yankees are looking to close out a three-game sweep of the Orioles, a team that hasn’t done much offensively outside of a six-double, 11-run game at Boston Sunday.

Means is an extreme fly-baller. Normally that’s not a calling card of successful pitchers at Yankee Stadium, but the Wednesday evening weather report calls for low humidity and a pitcher’s breeze in from center field.

BACK THE UNDER 9 (+100).

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (3-1) and New York Yankees (2-2) continue their AL East weekday series Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Dean Kremer is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. Kremer made four starts in 2020 and went 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 10.6 K/9 and 5.8 BB/9 in 18 2/3 IP. Two of those starts were against the Yankees (Sept. 6 and 12); both were effective, as he combined for 11 IP with 5 hits and 2 ER allowed while fanning 14.

RHP Gerrit Cole is tabbed for start No. 2 this season for the Yankees. Cole allowed 2 runs over 5 1/3 IP in New York’s season opener. His velocity was sharp, and he whiffed 8 in the outing. Current Baltimore bats have flailed their way to a strikeout-heavy .607 OPS against the 30-year-old ace.

Orioles at Yankees odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Orioles +240 (bet $100 to win $240) | Yankees -300 (bet $300 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +2.5 (-120) |  Yankees -2.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 5, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

New York got its flagship sluggers going in Monday’s 7-0 win over the O’s. OF Aaron Judge hit a porch job to right and DH Giancarlo Stanton launched a majestic 470-footer to left-center. Add in the fact C Gary Sanchez already has two bombs, and this may not be the right time to be facing the Yankees, especially in their home yard.

Cole held opposing bats to a .602 OPS in Yankee Stadium last season. He posted a 1.83 ERA in three starts against the Birds.

New York is 24-5 over its last 29 games against Baltimore. The price tag here may scare some bettors off or put them in the Orioles camp, but if you can get to a point where you consider New York a .680 club with Cole and Baltimore with Kremer-and-pen a .380 club, there is value to be had on the favorite.

Take the YANKEES (-300).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

For Yankees bettors unable to make that .680/.380 leap, consider NEW YORK -1.5 (-145) on the alternate run line. Cole and the rested top relievers of the Yankees is a solid side to be on.

The ML play is still more of a lean, though, because it has reached a point of no return for some. I would argue that point has been reached without significant justification.

Over/Under (O/U)

Respect to the bettors on this one. PASS.

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (3-0) and New York Yankees (1-2) meet for the first time in 2021 Monday at 6:35 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jorge Lopez is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. Last season, Lopez went 2-2 with a 6.69 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 6.5 K/9, and 2.8 BB/9 in 39 IP over nine appearances. Against these Yankees, he faced 21 batters, allowing just four base runners (three hits, walk) and no extra-base hits. Lopez won this slot in the O’s rotation by posting a 2.75 ERA in six spring training appearances.

LHP Jordan Montgomery is the projected starting pitcher for the Yankees. Last year, Montgomery went 2-3 with a 5.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 9.6 K/9, and 1.8 BB/9 in 44 IP over 10 starts. Baltimore bats own a whiff-heavy .550 OPS against the Yankee southpaw that returned from Tommy John surgery last season.

Orioles at Yankees odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:40 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Orioles +180 (bet $100 to win $180) | Yankees -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +1.5 (+100) |  Yankees -1.5 (-120)
  • Over/Under: 9.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 5, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

Pegging the Yankees as a near-.600 club and the Orioles as a near-.400 one, and giving Montgomery a nod in the starter department, New York’s American League entry is worth more than a -200 price for this one. Up to -225 is reasonable.  PASS ON THE JUICE-FILLED PRICES AS LISTED.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Last season, New York went 7-3 against Baltimore. Five of the Yanks’ wins were by a two-run cushion or more.

The Yankees are just the slightest lean as the batting-last home side with an Under shade. Consider a partial-unit play on NEW YORK -1.5 (-120).

Over/Under (O/U)

New York’s potent offense has been kept under wraps by a lackluster performance with runners in scoring position. A warmed-up (63 degrees at first pitch in the forecast) Yankee Stadium with a projected double-digit wind out to right would appear to be the right medicine for turning an offense around.

But both starting pitchers do well to keep the ball on the ground (so, in fact, do both bullpen units). Montgomery figures to be stingy in yielding hard contact. Baltimore’s early offensive numbers have been somewhat underpinned by a high batting average on balls in play, particularly in high-leverage situations.

To all of the at is added a tag with some room for value below. TAKE THE UNDER 9.5 (-105).

Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox open a three-game series Thursday at 2:10 p.m. at Fenway Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Red Sox with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP John Means is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. He was 2-4 with a 4.53 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 in 43 2/3 IP over 10 starts last season. For his career, Means has been cuffed to the tune of a .786 on-base-plus-slugging in 88 1/3 innings on the road. He struggles against righty bats which is often a difficult cross to bear in games at Fenway.

RHP Nathan Eovaldi is the projected starter for the Red Sox. He went 4-2 with a 3.72 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 and 1.3 BB/9 in 48 1/3 IP over nine starts. Eovaldi has had some shaky early-season numbers in his career (.760 OPS allowed in March/April), but he owns a solid career line against current Baltimore batters (.667 OPS allowed, 2.6-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio).

Orioles at Red Sox odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated Wednesday at 6:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Orioles +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Red Sox -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +1.5 (-145) | Red Sox -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Red Sox 6, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

Peg Eovaldi as the more bankable starter in this matchup, and look for the Red Sox to get off to a good start with manager Alex Cora once again at the helm. The pricing here seems to treat the pitching matchup as a flat trade-off.

TAKE BOSTON -165.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

On a high total with a slight lean toward the Over, RED SOX -1.5 (+120) fits nicely as a secondary play.  Current Boston batters own a contact-heavy .874 OPS against Means. Even in chilly weather, the odds of Means getting jumped in a multi-run Boston romp make for a solid return here.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over has attracted some attention in this tilt. But the extra juice on the upward play here squelches value. PASS.
