Rams promote Royce Freeman, Austin Trammell from practice squad

The Rams brought up Royce Freeman and Austin Trammell again from the practice squad

The Los Angeles Rams are bringing up two players from the practice squad for Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team announced it has promoted Royce Freeman and Austin Trammell from the practice squad, adding some depth at running back and wide receiver, as well as on special teams.

It’s the second straight week the Rams have elevated both Freeman and Trammell to the game-day roster, so nothing has changed from last week when they faced the 49ers.

This is a temporary promotion, not a permanent signing to the 53-man roster, so both players will revert to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Rams promote Royce Freeman, Austin Trammell from practice squad

The Rams elevated Royce Freeman and Austin Trammell from the practice squad for Week 2

Last week against the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad promotions were obvious. They were forced to elevate Brett Maher and Brett Rypien, needing a kicker and backup quarterback on the game day roster for Week 1.

With Maher and Rypien now on the 53-man roster, the Rams didn’t need to promote them. So instead, they elevated running back Royce Freeman and wide receiver Austin Trammell. Neither player took a snap with the Rams in the opener against Seattle, spending the week on the practice squad.

Freeman and Trammell were both signed to the practice squad after final roster cuts were made before Week 1.

Rams sign WR Austin Trammell, waive TE Kyle Markway

The Rams waived TE Kyle Markway and filled his roster spot by signing WR Austin Trammell

To help alleviate the absence of Van Jefferson in practice for the next few weeks, the Los Angeles Rams added some help at wide receiver. The team announced Thursday that it has signed Austin Trammell, waiving tight end Kyle Markway to make room for the new receiver.

Trammell signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent last year, spending most of the year on the practice squad. He was active for two games at the end of the season, but he only played special teams. He was released on June 16.

Markway was signed to the Rams’ practice squad late last year, his second stint with the team. He has never appeared in an NFL game, however.
