Nola brothers make MLB Playoff history

Austin and Aaron Nola became the first brothers to face off in a pitcher-hitter matchup in MLB Playoff history on Wednesday.

When [autotag]Austin Nola[/autotag] and [autotag]Aaron Nola[/autotag] faced off in Game 2 of the 2022 NLCS, they became the first brothers to face each other as pitcher and hitter in MLB postseason history.

The two former LSU stars have had great seasons for their respective teams. Both the Phillies (Aaron) and the Padres (Austin) were considered underdogs as they had to fight their way through the wild card series and face to top two teams in the National League, the Dodgers, and the Braves. Both teams beat the odds and now find themselves one series win away from playing for the World Series.

The brothers faced each other twice in Game 2, and Aaron won the first matchup, but Austin got the final laugh as he hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Phillies’ lead to 4-3. After taking a 4-0 lead early, the Phillies weren’t able to maintain that momentum as the Padres took Game 2 with an 8-5 win to tie the series 1-1.

Aaron and Austin Nola’s dad seemed very torn after Padres catcher got hit off Phillies pitcher

The Nola on Nola violence was too much to take!

For the first time in MLB playoff history, baseball fans were treated to a pitcher/batter brother matchup as the Philadelphia Phillies took on the San Diego Padres.

On Wednesday, Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola faced off against his brother Austin Nola — catcher for the San Diego Padres — in Game 2 of the NLCS. While pitcher Nola got the better of his brother the first time through the lineup, things changed dramatically for the Padres in the fifth inning.

With the Padres down 4-2, Austin Nola got the Padres furious, five-run rally started with a RBI single to right field that cut the Phillies’ lead to one. After the play, cameras panned over to the Nola brothers’ parents in the stands, with their dad looking incredibly conflicted over the series of events.

Seriously, how do you react in that situation? Unfortunately for Aaron Nola, he was chased in the inning as the Padres took a 7-4 lead that started from Austin Nola’s big time hit. Tough stuff right there.

Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola struck out his older brother, Austin, and their dad had a classic reaction

What do you do here as a dad?!

Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola and Padres catcher Austin Nola are brothers and last night they faced each other for the first time at the major league level, which was pretty cool to see.

Well, it wasn’t cool for Austin (31) because in the second inning he got struck out by his younger brother, Aaron (28) in three pitches.

That’s just cold.

Aaron Nola became the first player in Phillies history to face a position-playing brother and he brought the heat in that second inning showdown. Three straight fastballs had his older brother heading back to the dugout in what must have been a frustrating walk.

Check this out:

His dad’s reaction (which his at the end of this video below0 was pretty great. Like, what do you do there as a dad?
