It sounds like Cincinnati Bengals wideout Auden Tate escaped the worst-case scenario after getting carted off with a neck injury over the weekend in Oakland.

Tate — who traveled back with the team and sent a message to Bengals fans — will enter concussion protocol, per head coach Zac Taylor:

“Auden is in concussion protocol. He has a cervical strain as well. He was on the plane last night. I was able to talk to him, and he can do all that stuff. He’ll be in the concussion protocol.”

That’s a big sigh of relief for Tate, who got hit and remained down during Sunday’s loss to the Raiders. A previous report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero had said all reports were negative.

Given the extent of the injuries, Tate figures to miss a large chunk of time. But given the scary circumstances, the outcome has to be seen as a positive.

Auden Tate sends message to fans, joins team on trip back after injury

The Bengals WR is in good spirits after a scary injury.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Auden Tate will head back to the city with his team after Sunday’s game in Oakland.

The former seventh-round pick was stretchered off the field late in the fourth quarter after taking a scary hit that left him on his back surrounded by trainers for a lengthy amount of time.

But as seen from Tate’s tweet above, everything seems fine.

The team noted Tate was cleared to fly and did so wearing a neck brace. According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, all tests came back negative. He’ll have further evaluation Monday but the developments so far are positive.

Bengals WR Auden Tate carted off with injury vs. Raiders

After catching a pass on third down, Tate got hit from behind and folded forward before landing on his back.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Auden Tate needed a cart to leave the field after taking a hit in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

After catching a pass on third down, Tate got hit from behind and folded forward before landing on his back. He attempted to get up but trainers made him stay down.

Tate had been a breakout presence for the Bengals this year under a new coaching staff. Entering the day, he had 30 catches for 427 yards and a score, establishing himself as a big-play artist who went up and made acrobatic catches.

The 2018 seventh-round pick had four catches for 56 yards on the day before leaving the game.
