Former Bengals WR surfaces in CFL

A former Bengals WR shows up in a new league.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Auden Tate has popped up in the CFL.

Tate, a seventh-round pick by the Bengals in 2018, has signed with the Calgary Stampeders.

This, after spending chunks of 2022 with Atlanta, Philadelphia and then Arizona for the first half of 2023.

A fan favorite over his four seasons in Cincinnati, Tate’s peak came in 2019 when he filled in over 12 games, catching 40 passes for 575 yards with one score, averaging 14.4 yards per catch.

Tate, alongside the likes of A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd, was one of the key recognizable names on the Cincinnati offense during the transitional phase of the franchise.

The Eagles are always looking to add talented pass catchers to the roster, and one day after a tryout, Auden Tate is slated to sign to the practice squad.

Philadelphia has three tight ends on the roster and has one spot available after placing Andre Dillard on injured reserve.

Tate could be forced into a transition to the tight end position as a big, physical pass catcher, and it could work with Philadelphia.

Formerly with the Bengals, Tate was released by the Falcons ahead of roster cuts. After signing with Atlanta in March, the 25-year-old had one reception for seven yards in the preseason.

A quick reminder Auden Tate has plenty to offer the Cincinnati Bengals offense.

Lost in the hype of the three-headed monster that is Ja’Marr Chase, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins is something of a secret weapon for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Said weapon is big-play artist Auden Tate, a former seventh-round pick from the 2018 draft who has carved out a big niche for himself in Cincinnati over the last three seasons.

Over just 114 targets, Tate has skied over and/or bullied defenders to become something of a human highlight reel, extending in A.J. Green-esque fashion to make big plays.

The Bengals aren’t afraid to show it off either, as Wednesday they took to Twitter to show off some of Tate’s best highlights to date.

While nothing is a guarantee in the NFL, Tate figures to stick around as the fourth or fifth option on the wideout depth chart and see usage in short-yardage scenarios, including in the redzone.

Report: Bengals place WR Auden Tate on injured reserve

The Cincinnati Bengals placed a big name on injured reserve.

[jwplayer BLUmNLiE]

The Cincinnati Bengals will send wide receiver Auden Tate to injured reserve ahead of shoulder surgery, according to a new report.

Wednesday’s report first came from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

So ends an odd season for Tate, which started on a strange foot after his agent spoke out about his client’s status as inactive early in the season. Tate ended up appearing in nine games, catching all of just 14 passes while never seeing a big role with Joe Burrow.

That after Tate’s breakout season last year while playing the A.J. Green role, where he caught 40 passes for 575 yards and one touchdown.

Cincinnati remains thin at wideout, as Tate had recently had a trip to the COVID reserve list and John Ross remains on injured reserve.
