The Auburn Tigers lost their second straight game on Saturday, losing a nail-biter to the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, 27-20 at Jordan-Hare.
The Auburn defense once again played a phenomenal game all around, forcing two turnovers and holding the Bulldogs to three offensive touchdowns.
The Tigers’ rushing offense was solid as well, as the offensive line consistently won the line-of-scrimmage battle against a very good Georgia front.
Auburn ended with 219 rushing yards which actually outpaced the Bulldogs by 112. The problem on the offensive side of the ball was the passing game, as Auburn quarterbacks have now failed to throw for over 100 yards in four of their last five games against Power 5 opponents.

As we inch closer to kick off against Georgia, Auburn Wire breaks down five reasons they will struggle in Athens.
We are nearing the 24-hour mark before the 127th kickoff in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. A crucial game for the Auburn Tigers head coach Bryan Harsin as he tried to end Georgia’s home winning streak. Kirby Smart will look to counter with his terrifying defense. They haven’t allowed more than 10.8 points per game over the last two seasons.
It will take a herculean-like effort from Robby Ashford, Tank Bigsby, and the Tigers’ offense to knock off the defending national champions. While the home team has looked mortal over the last two games against Kent State and Missouri, Auburn’s offense has looked pedestrian.
Auburn Wire breaks down five reasons why the Tigers will struggle ‘Between the Hedges’ in this SEC rivalry matchup.
How do the offensive and defensive units compare for the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry?
In one of the two biggest games of the year, the Auburn Tigers face the Georgia Bulldogs in the annual Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry game. The road team enters Week 6 with a 3-2 (1-1 in the SEC) record and faces the No. 2 team in the country. Georgia is 5-0 (2-0) but they haven’t looked as dominant in the past two weeks.
Normally when it comes to a rivalry game you can throw out the record books but history isn’t on the side of Auburn in this game. Georgia has won five straight and dominate the series over the last 20 games. Auburn has won just five times in that span.
However, we have a clean slate this year. At least that has to be the mindset for the Tigers this week and beyond. Just take one game at a time and focus on one win at a time. It will be a tall task against one of the best teams in the country statistically.
The Bulldogs feature a top-five scoring offense and defense. But this is why you play the games, they aren’t won or lost on paper. A team that barely scored 14 against Auburn two weeks ago was within striking distance of taking down Georgia this past Saturday.
As we inch closer to kickoff in Athens, we preview the game with the tale of the tape.

When Georgia has the ball
A look at the Bulldogs offense vs the Tigers defense
It appears that UGA will be without Jalen Carter for Saturday’s game with Auburn.
When the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs meet on Saturday in Athens, the defending national champions will be without star defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
Carter was injured on Saturday in the game against Missouri when an opposing offensive lineman went low on the defender. Head coach Kirby Smart updated his status for the Auburn game on Monday when he met with reporters for his weekly media availability.
“He’s going to be a week or two,” Smart said. “We don’t know how long it’s going to be but it’s not going to look good for this week.”

When asked for comments on the block being dirty, Smart refused to speak his mind on the matter. Against Missouri, reserve defensive tackle Warren Brinson played a majority of the snaps according to UGA Wire. Carter finished with 2 tackles and 0.5 sacks last year against Auburn.
Against the Missouri Tigers, the Bulldogs only generated 12 total quarterback pressures. It remains to be seen if they will have more success against the Auburn offensive line on Saturday. LSU was able to create 17 pressures on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
For the second time Auburn fans let Georgia hear about the loss.
A win is a win.
That is what is important after No. 1 Auburn pulled out a close win over Georgia 74-72. KD Johnson tied it up with under a minute to play and Wendell Green Jr. made a layup with 3.6 seconds left to give Auburn the lead.
With the win Auburn improved to 22-1 overall and 10-0 in the SEC. They also swept Georgia on the season.
Johnson led Auburn with 20 points against his former team and Green added 19 points of his own. Green was put back into the starting lineup with Zep Jasper unable to play due to an illness. His absence was felt, but Auburn was still able to pick up the win and that meant it was time for the fans to unleash their memes.
We essentially had three ‘Game of the Year’ type performances yesterday (Alabama vs Texas A&M, Oklahoma vs Texas, Arkansas vs Ole Miss) and that doesn’t include two top 10 teams (Penn State and BYU) losing. It’s 2007 all over again.
Within the SEC, there were some huge games, and that might be an understatement. Alabama lost to Texas A&M 41-38, the Crimson Tide’s first loss to an unranked team for the first time since 2007. This A&M/Bama matchup was the preseason SEC on CBS Game of the Year, and had you told me after watching Texas A&M lose to Arkansas and Mississippi State in consecutive weeks that the Aggies would win this game, well, I would have told you that preseason me was right. Even though preseason me wasn’t right on a lot of things, at least he called the upset.
Here are my week six SEC power rankings after what was a fun weekend in the SEC.
Here’s Auburn’s report card in their 34-10 loss to Georgia.
Auburn lost to the best team in the nation on Saturday.
I don’t think there’s a lot of debating that. I’m not saying hand the Bulldogs the trophy, but there doesn’t seem to be any team that can truly challenge them between now and the playoff. Yes, as of right now I don’t think Alabama can beat Georgia if they get to Atlanta.
To be honest with you, I’m not sure if Alabama is even going to Atlanta. They still have to play at Mississippi State (who just beat Texas A&M, who in turn beat Alabama), at home against Tennessee (who has a legit offense), at home against Arkansas, and then at Auburn to finish the season. I have concerns as to whether or not the Tide can win out.
All of this to say Auburn got smacked by the best team not only in the SEC, but in the nation this weekend. It wasn’t expected to be pretty, and it turned into a near blowout late.
Here’s Auburn’s report card in their 34-10 loss to No. 1 Georgia.
Auburn couldn’t get the momentum going in a big loss to No. 2 Georgia.
Complete domination.
Georgia had everything go their way in Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday. The Bulldogs, as many predicted, established the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and took over in the second half. This 34-10 Georgia win wasn’t too difficult to read pregame.
Give Auburn credit for not lying down until the second half. At least, not completely. Early mistakes from Auburn’s offense set the tone from the jump. Wasted opportunities and drops were a consistent theme in this game. Mistakes were the biggest thing Auburn was trying to avoid. They couldn’t avoid it against what looks like the best team in the nation.
Here are five losers from Auburn’s 34-10 loss to No. 2 Georgia.
Here are five areas of concern as Auburn takes on Georgia.
Auburn is currently riding a high they haven’t experienced since 1999.
The Tigers took down LSU in Baton Rouge this past weekend and now turn to face the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs with some momentum in their favor.
Unfortunately, momentum isn’t the only thing the Tigers are going to need to pull out a win at home this season. The Tigers will need to play a borderline perfect game against what appears to be a future playoff team in Georgia. Everyone’s going to need to be focused and having fun.
Here are some areas of concern for Auburn this weekend when they play the seemingly unbeatable Bulldogs.
