Relive some of the key moments from Auburn’s 74-69 win over Houston on Saturday.

The Auburn Tigers improved to a perfect 2-0 on the young season on Saturday Night, taking down the No. 4 ranked Houston Cougars 74-69 in the Toyota Center.

In a game that featured two of the best defenses in college basketball, it was no surprise the first 30 or so minutes were a grueling slug fest on Saturday. Beyond. Houston’s tenacious defense caused Auburn’s offense an adundance of problems throughout the night, but massive and timely shots from Johni Broome (20 points) and freshman Tahaad Pettiford (21 points) were enough to help the Tigers take a late lead, eventually turning into a victory.

Pettiford specifically was phenomenal throughout the evening. The Jersey City, NJ native made 7 of his 12 shot attempts, including 5 3-point field goals. Along with Pettiford, the aforementioned Johni Broome was his dominant self with a 20-point, 9-rebound, 5-block performance, while Chaney Johnson provided an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double in 31 minutes off the bench.

The win proved the Tigers can play with the best teams in the nation, and provides plenty of momentum for a team set to compete in the Maui Invitational at the end of November. For now, Auburn will need to prepare for a Wednesday night showdown with a formidable foe from the MAC in Kent State. Ahead of Auburn’s next game, relive some of the key moments from Auburn’s 73-69 win over Houston on Saturday.

The Auburn Tigers took care of business on the road Tuesday night, winning yet another game by double digits, this time over the Missouri Tigers.

Bruce Pearl’s team was favored by 11 heading into the game so the result is no surprise. Still, some Tigers showed great things in the win.

Forward Jaylin Williams looked like his old self after two sub-par games returning from injury, while guards [autotag]Chad Baker-Mazara[/autotag] and [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag] stepped up in the absence of [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag].

The Tigers’ 101 points were the most they’ve scored since February 14 against South Carolina. We’ll see if they can carry that offensive output into the remainder of March.

Auburn’s offense managed to have one of its better games of the season despite the absence of star senior [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag], as the Tigers accumulated 97 points in the 21-point victory.

[autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag]’s team is now a win within the SEC lead and it has a chance to create a virtual tie at the top of the standings with a win in Knoxville against Tennessee on Wednesday.

The Auburn Tigers played arguably their worst game of the season in Saturday night’s 70-59 home loss to Kentucky.

Auburn’s offense couldn’t get anything going all night and while the defense was fine, it wasn’t enough to help the Tigers overcome a terrible shooting night in front of the home crowd.

To make matters even worse, the Tigers lost forward Jaylin Williams to injury halfway through the second half to injury. The senior reportedly avoided a season-ending injury, but will most likely be gone for the foreseeable future.

If there were ever a time in the schedule to have a week off from games, it would be now. Luckily for Auburn, they don’t take the floor again until next Saturday in Athens.

For the first time in the last three years, the Iron Bowl of basketball did not end in a sweep.

Auburn made sure to defend home court on Wednesday behind a rowdy Jungle at Neville Arena.

After a back-and-forth first 15 minutes, forwards Johni Broome and Jaylin Williams took over. The duo finished with 50 of Auburn’s 99 total points in the game, most impressively scoring the final 12 of the first half.

The Tigers’ 99-point performance was impressive, but the real story was the defensive tenacity of [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and guards [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag] and [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag].

Broome in particular was dominant again on the defensive end. The junior has now collected 21 blocks over his last five games.

The Auburn Tigers are riding high heading into their home matchup with Alabama.

The aforementioned Baker-Mazara, star forward [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag], and longtime Tiger [autotag]K.D Johnson[/autotag] took over in the second half of the 14-point victory.

Auburn’s win was arguably its most impressive and biggest of the season, as the Tigers now have a chance to regain the lead in the SEC with a home win over their rival on Wednesday.

Neville Arena seems to be the best medicine for a struggling Auburn basketball team.

The Tigers returned home in resounding fashion Wednesday night, blowing out Vanderbilt by nearly 30 points after losing back-to-back road games.

Victories are always seen as signs of optimism, but perhaps the best sign of the night was transfer guard [autotag]Denver Jones[/autotag] finally breaking out to score 19 points.

Coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] raved about Jones’s scoring ability in the preseason and Wednesday’s game was the first time Tiger fans got to see the talented guard become a microwave of sorts on the offensive end.

If he can channel that scoring ability for the rest of the season, Auburn has legitimate national championship aspirations.
