Report Card: Grading Auburn’s close loss against Georgia

There was plenty of good and bad in Auburn’s 27-20 loss to Georgia.

Auburn’s offense and defense both flashed at times against Georiga but neither side was able to maintain the level of play needed to beat the No. 1 ranked Bulldogs as they ultimately lost 27-20 in Jordan-Hare Stadium

It started with Auburn’s second drive of the game when [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] took a designed run 61 yards to put Auburn in the red zone. They were unable to finish the drive and had to settle for a field goal.

The defense was able to force two takeaways but was unable to get off the field on third down.

The final chapter of the 2020 Auburn football season was closed on Friday with a disappointing loss to Northwestern, 35-19, in the Citrus Bowl.

The Tigers struggled early, falling behind by 14 points in the first quarter but fought their way back to a 14-13 deficit. Northwestern took control of the game from there, pulling away before Auburn added a garbage-time touchdown to make the score somewhat respectable.

Auburn had a good shot at pulling off the upset on Saturday but went into a shell in the fourth quarter in the 31-20 loss.

Auburn held a 20-14 lead going into the final quarter of Saturday’s matchup against No. 5/6 Texas A&M. The Tigers imploded from that point on.

The Aggies dominated Gus Malzahn’s side in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points for the 31-20 victory while holding Auburn to just 21 total yards.
