Four-star defensive lineman includes Auburn in top 10 schools

Auburn is in the mix for four-star defensive lineman Jordan Hall.

Auburn is looking to build on the momentum of landing four-star running back Jeremiah Cobb on Monday.

They got more good news on the recruiting trail Monday when four-star defensive lineman Jordan Hall included Auburn in his top 10 schools.

Hall, who is from Jacksonville, Florida, included Auburn, Oregon, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, Ohio State, Florida State, Georgia, USC, and Florida.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Hall has a massive frame but still possesses a great first step and can quickly get into the backfield to blow up a play. Due to his size and speed, he can play multiple positions along the line depending on what the play calls for.

He is ranked as the No. 156 overall recruit and No. 21 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 32 player from Florida.

In the 2021 high school season, he made 30 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 5.0 sacks in just nine games for Westside High School, per 247Sports. He also competes in track and field, primarily as a thrower.

The Tigers currently have three recruits in their 2023 recruiting class and are still looking for their first defensive lineman.

Auburn OL target RyQueze McElderry decommits from Georgia

Auburn never gave up on flipping RyQueze McElderry, will it pay off?

Despite committing to Georgia, Auburn never gave up on three-star offensive lineman [autotag]RyQueze McElderry[/autotag]. That decision paid off on Saturday when he revealed he had decommitted from the Bulldogs on Twitter.

The Aniston, Alabama product took an official visit to the Plains on May 27 and has taken multiple unofficial visits. The Tigers as well as Alabama and Tennessee are the schools he has been linked to most leading up to him backing off his pledge to Georgia.

He is not expected to be on the market long as he has said he wants to make his decision soon and a July commitment seems likely.

McElderberry is ranked as the No. 406 overall player and No. 25 interior offensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 22 player from Alabama.

The 6-foot-3.5, 335-pound McElderberry is cousins with current Auburn commit Bradyn Joiner, who also projects as an interior offensive lineman.

Running back target Jeremiah Cobb commits to Auburn over Clemson, Tennessee

We finally know where four-star running back Jeremiah Cobb is headed.

On Friday the Auburn Tigers received news about the top running back in the state. Jeremiah Cobb announced that he would be taking his talents to the Plains.

Cobb wanted to make his decision after his final visit to Knoxville but even the Tennessee Vols couldn’t sway him from staying home. He becomes the third commit to the Auburn Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class. Cobb tweeted the announcement on Friday.

First off, I want to thank God; without him none of this would be possible. I want to thank all the coaches for recruiting me and giving me a chance to play the sport that I love at the next level. And I appreciate the relationships that were formed during this process. I want to thank my mom and Coach J for supporting me and helping me with this hard decision. I want to thank my coaches for pushing me to be a great man on and off the field. Lastly, I want to thank my teammates, teachers, and my school for all the support throughout this process. At this time, I will be committing to play football at Auburn University; War Eagle!!!

Updated SEC college football recruiting rankings as June ends

Where teams stand in recruiting rankings as June comes to a close.

Another month is set to come to a close which brings the start of college football within arm’s length.

With all of the freshmen now on campus, teams can begin the full evaluation of their roster as well as begin summer conditioning. It isn’t only the evaluation of the current team but also in recruiting. July also brings a flurry of commitments ahead of the 2022 college football season.

As July begins, Auburn Wire takes a look at the updated recruiting rankings for each SEC school. Nine of the conference’s 14 teams rank among the top 50 classes in the nation.

The rankings are courtesy of 247Sports composite team rankings.

Tigers cap off this past weekend with some star-studded official visitors prior to dead period

The Tigers hosted several official visitors this past weekend and we breakdown why these visits were so important.

This past weekend was a huge one for the Auburn coaching staff. It was the last chance for the coaching staff to bring in recruits before the dead period that begins on June 27. The dead period prohibits recruits from having face-to-face interactions between both coaches and players.

This past weekend the Tigers saw four recruits come in for official visits. A tandem from Montgomery, Alabama headlined the group. That is four-stars James Smith and Qua Russaw. Recently, the two recruits released their top eleven schools. Both Smith and Russaw had the Tigers in the mix. In all likelihood, the two will continue to play with one another in college. With that being said, it was essential for the Tigers to get them both on campus for official visits.

The two of them really seemed to enjoy their visit this past weekend. Just a week earlier, the two made an official visit to Georgia. Although those two schools seem firmly in the mix, Alabama is also heavily recruiting the two of them as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes down to those three schools in each of their recruitments.

Another key visitor from the weekend was three-star linebacker Phil Picciotti. The Pennsylvania native is one of the Tigers’ top defensive prospects. The coaching staff will likely have their hands full in his recruitment as other schools like Penn State and Oklahoma have also received official visits. It was Picciotti’s first trip to the Plains, so he was able to see what Auburn is all about. He has been predicted for months to commit to the Sooners, but we will see how his recruitment unfolds.

Another interesting visitor was Ohio State commit Cedric Hawkins. He has been committed to the Buckeyes since January and he seems unwavering with his commitment. Jeffrey Lee of On3 reported that he remains firm to the Buckeyes. His visit doesn’t give the Tigers hope in his recruitment. It seems as if he was just trying to get a feel for the school without actually having extensive interest.

The Tigers certainly hope that the other three official visitors will evaluate their options and keep the program in contention. All three are top-end recruits that the coaching staff would love to add to the recruiting class. It will be interesting to see if any of them elect to return to the Plains for a visit in the fall.

Tigers listed in top four for 2023 edge rusher

2023 three-star edge rusher Wilky Denaud has put Auburn in his top four.

On3’s Keegan Pope reported that 2023 edge rusher Wilky Denaud was down to four schools on Friday. The schools listed were Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, and Tennessee.

Denaud is regarded as a three-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds. The native of Fort Pierce, Florida, also plays for his school’s basketball team and is also on the  track and field. Last season, on the football field, Denaud totaled 55 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one interception.

After releasing his top four schools, he scheduled four official visits. His first official visit will be to the Plains for the Tigers’ showdown with Penn State on September 16th. Then, he will follow that up with a visit to Rocky Top the next weekend on September 23rd. He will visit Indiana on October 7th before taking his final official visit to Florida State on October 14th.

Here is what On3 national recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton said after a strong performance that Denaud had at an Under Armour Camp in Miami:

“[He] flashed some tremendous first and second step movement, and an impressive long arm for a young prospect, [Under Armour All-America Game and camps, college and NFL defensive line instructor] Nathan O’Neal was effusive in his praise of Denaud.”

The Tigers are profusely recruiting defensive linemen in the 2023 class. Mainly because the Tigers will likely lose numerous key contributors along the line after the season’s end. It will be interesting to see how the class comes together and how many defensive linemen the coaching staff can get committed. Moreover, it will be interesting to see if Denaud elects for the Plains.

Early prediction for Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class

Auburn Wire makes some early predictions as to who will be in the Tigers 2023 recruiting class:

The Tigers have had some really good recruiting classes over the years, but some years are better than others. In the last recruiting cycle, the Tigers finished with the No. 21 recruiting class in the country. That isn’t the worst, but it isn’t ideal for an Auburn team that is looking to rebuild. Head coach [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] has put an emphasis on the 2023 recruiting— class and rightfully so.

This is a huge year for Tiger athletics and the fans are expecting bigger and better things from the football program. The expectation on the Plains is to compete for an SEC Championship each year and nothing less. It is essential to build the foundation of the program from the recruiting class along with the additions from the transfer portal. With an abundance of talent in the state of Alabama, coach Harsin should surely end with a great recruiting class.

Today, Auburn Wire will make some early predictions for Auburn’s potential 2023 recruiting class. Read along to learn about the possible future of the Auburn Tiger football program.

Tigers land in top four for 2023 WR from the Sunshine State

Auburn lands in 2023 four-star wide receiver Daquayvious Sorey’s top four.

2023 four-star wide receiver Daquayvious Sorey announced his top four schools on Sunday. Surprisingly though, he didn’t include the Georgia Bulldogs despite his cousin Xavian playing for them — Not to mention, he was once committed to play for Kirby Smart. Now, it appears that isn’t in his future.

The product of Chipley High School also included Florida, Miami, and Alabama on his final schools list. He also announced that he would make his commitment on July 4th. As of right now, On3’s RPM is in favor of the Gators at 39.1%. However, I wouldn’t count out the Tigers.

Everyone on the Plains knows that the team has lacked productivity at the wide receiver position over the years. The last elite wide receiver to play at Auburn may have been Emory Blake or Darvin Adams. The Auburn faithful will attest that they could use more playmakers. Sorey is a playmaker at the position that can soar in the right offense.

Sorey runs track and field for his high school. His ability to fly by defenders is something that will make it easier on Auburn’s quarterbacks in the future. That is certainly something that the coaching staff would love to have. According to 247Sports, the only school that he visited was Florida, and that was on an unofficial visit. In consequence, his recruitment is likely still up in the air. He hasn’t really shown any sign of where he may go, so we will have to wait until July 4th to see where he goes.

Tigers land in top three for elite 2023 DT from North Carolina

The Tigers were listed in the top three for 2023 defensive line target Jamaal Jarrett.

2023 defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett released his top three schools on Sunday, one of which was the Auburn Tigers. The two other schools listed were Georgia and North Carolina.

Jarrett has been a priority target for the Tigers coaching staff in the 2023 recruiting class. He is regarded as a four-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. Jarrett is listed at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds. The North Carolina native recently took an official visit to Auburn on June 3rd. He also took official visits to North Carolina (May 20th) and Georgia (June 10th).

At Grimsley High School, he also does shot put and discus. The monstrous recruit is high on the Tigers. Here is what Sports Illustrated’s John Garcia had to say on a Locked On Auburn podcast regarding Jarrett’s interest in the Tigers:

“Auburn’s been a school that he’s been mentioning pretty early when you talk to him back in January and February and that consistency helps with the Tigers,” Garcia said. “He took an official visit and got a more intimate look at the program and really, it’s becoming an SEC race at the top with Auburn and Georgia vs staying at home and playing for North Carolina.”

With his size, the Tigers could use him in a variety of different roles. Defensive line coach [autotag]Jimmy Brumbaugh[/autotag] is really high on Jarrett. He would be a massive addition to the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class. He is set to announce his commitment on July 19th.

2024 cornerback from Alabama puts the Tigers in his top ten

Auburn landed in the top ten for 2024 cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe.

2024 cornerback and Alabama native Jaylen Mbakwe released his top ten schools on Sunday. One of the schools listed was the Auburn Tigers.

Mbakwe is regarded as a five-star by 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He is listed at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. The product of Clay-Chalkville High School is rated as the No. 3 cornerback in his class as well as the No. 1 rated recruit in the state of Alabama. Mbakwe is a very versatile athlete that plays both sides of the ball for the Cougars. Not to mention, he also runs track. He could play both sides of the ball, but recruiting experts are anticipating that he will stay on the defensive side.

Auburn was one of the schools that offered Mbakwe early on in the recruiting process. The Tigers offered him on June 24, 2021. The other schools that he put in his top ten are Alabama, Florida State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Louisville, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. Interestingly enough, he has the Iron Bowl rivalry in the mix, and that will likely be the case until he makes his final decision.

The Tigers could certainly implement the native of Pinson, Alabama, into their defense. His athleticism and ability to play both sides of the ball give him an advantage over other players on the field. It will be interesting to see how his recruitment unfolds over the next few months.
