Auburn at Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Auburn at Alabama odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Auburn Tigers (5-6, 2-5 SEC) will be in Tuscaloosa for a challenge against the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide (9-2, 5-2) for the latest edition of the Iron Bowl Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Auburn vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

When it comes to the Iron Bowl, you throw out the records. Considered one of the best rivalries in college football, Auburn and Alabama want to crush the other into oblivion, especially this one week of the year.

In 2021, Auburn almost knocked Alabama from a playoff spot but came up short in a 4-overtime, 24-22 loss. Most remember the “kick 6” in 2013 when Auburn CB Chris Davis returned an Alabama missed 57-yard field-goal attempt for a touchdown on the final play of a 34-28 Tigers victory. Davis caught the ball in front of the goal posts, but it was considered a 100-yard return according to NCAA rules. This game is always contentious and rarely does it disappoint those who watch.

Saturday, Alabama hopes to keep its slim playoff chance alive. While the Tide are No. 7 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY sports, they’re also 7th in the College Football Playoff Rankings. They have to jump 3 teams to get into the desired top 4 for the playoffs.

Auburn is looking to win one for interim coach — former player and fan favorite — Cadillac Williams, who moved into the position from running backs coach when Bryan Harsin was fired in late October after a 3-5 start. Williams has brought a sense of confidence and determination to the Tigers, something which was severely lacking in recent years. Unfortunately for Auburn fans, this confidence may not be enough vs. Alabama with the Tigers down several offensive linemen and a defense which has struggled all season.

Auburn at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 33, Auburn 26

Moneyline

PASS.

Alabama (-2000) is far too expensive of a ML favorite to wager on. Auburn (+950) offers excellent value, and I’m willing to put $10 on it for fun — it would profit $95 — but it’s not likely to hit. The smarter bets would be on the spread or total in this game.

Against the spread

BET AUBURN +22.5 (-110).

No matter how good or bad these teams are, this game is a challenge. It leads to pride in the state and both teams want to beat the other.

In 2021, as 20.5-point underdogs, the Tigers took the eventual national runner-up Crimson Tide to 4 overtimes before a decision not to go for a 2-point conversion cost the Tigers a chance at victory.

While this game may not be as thrilling as 2021, Auburn will play hard for coach Williams and will keep this one closer than the experts think. AUBURN +22.5 (-110) is my FAVORITE PLAY in this matchup.

Over/Under

BET OVER 49.5 (-111)

In 3 of the last 5 head-to-head meeting, this total would have hit. Last season’s 24-22 game is 1 of the 2 which would not despite going to 4 overtimes.

But both teams are different this season. The normally stout Alabama defense is lacking bite this season and Auburn, due to bad recruiting and injury, lacks a strong defense, too.

QB Bryce Young and DE Will Anderson, both juniors, are likely playing their final game at Alabama. Without a playoff berth, it’s possible both sit out a bowl game. While not seniors, both will want to star in their final dances at Tuscaloosa in front of the home fans.

Alabama scoring in the 30’s to 40’s is not out of the question. Auburn is less of a certainty to score, but with the emotion in this game, I’m going to venture that the Tigers will keep up for a while.

Give me OVER 49.5 (-111) to hit in this one.

Auburn at Alabama odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Auburn Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 4 Auburn Tigers (14-1, 3-0 SEC) and No. 25 Alabama Crimson Tide (11-4, 2-1) tangle Tuesday in a 9 p.m. ET game at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Below, we look at the Auburn vs. Alabama odds and lines and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Auburn hasn’t lost since Nov. 24, and its Southeastern Conference victories include wins over well-regarded LSU and Florida. The Tigers are among the best offensive teams in the SEC and are certainly among the top two or three defensive teams in the conference. They take care of the basketball while forcing turnovers at a healthy clip and play at a fast tempo.

Alabama went into this season after losing a couple of key figures from last year’s 26-7 team that bowed out in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. However, the Tide’s first nine games this season included eight wins, two of which came in early December against current-No. 2 Gonzaga and current-No. 11 Houston.

Those victories grabbed a lot of attention but the fanfare has subsided a bit since. UA has lost three of its last six games including a 92-86 misstep at Missouri Saturday. Alabama went into that game favored by 14.5 points.

Auburn at Alabama odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 80, Auburn 78

Money line

Auburn is the more consistent team and on decent trend lines at both ends of the floor. However, the Tigers are a very young team and this game in Tuscaloosa will present a challenge. A straight-up bet would require a tag a little higher. AVOID THE CURRENT PRICE.

Against the spread

The Crimson Tide are 0-6 ATS in their last six games as a favorite. The Tigers have won four in a row ATS.

Auburn is a lean, but again price has to be a consideration. Tag this TIGERS +2.5 (-105) wager as one to be made with a partial unit.

Over/Under

Auburn has been getting to the line with greater frequency of late. The Tigers have shot 39% or better from 3-point range in five of their last six games away from home.

This figures to be a fast-paced and close game. The winning team should post near-80 points or more. TAKE THE OVER 155.5 (-115).

2020 Iron Bowl: Auburn at Alabama odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Auburn Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Crimson Tide are No. 1 and the Tigers are ranked No. 19 in Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Auburn at Alabama: Three things to know

  1. Alabama dismantled Kentucky 63-3 last week in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide featured their ground game against the Wildcats carrying the ball 40 times for 226 yards and 5 touchdowns. RB Najee Harris scored twice, which put him at the top of the SEC in rushing touchdowns with 16 and he has the second-most rushing yards in the SEC.
  2. Auburn took down Tennessee at home 30-17 and covered as a 10-point favorite. The Tigers defense made big plays, including 4 sacks and a 100-yard pick-six by S Smoke Monday. Auburn is plus-4 in turnover differential on the season and the only games the Tigers have lost this year have been when they’ve turned the ball over more than the opponent.
  3. Alabama coach Nick Saban tested positive for COVID for the second time and is expected to miss Saturday’s game.

Auburn at Alabama: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Alabama 38, Auburn 28

Money line (ML)

Alabama leads the Iron Bowl series 45-32-1, but the Crimson Tide lost last year’s meeting 48-45 failing to cover as 3.5-point favorites. It was Alabama’s fourth loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl since Saban took over the Crimson Tide in 2007.

I make Auburn a live dog in this game because it actually lost less production from last year’s team than Alabama did (according to ESPN). Obviously, the Tigers didn’t replace that production as well, but I lean to sprinkling a one-fifth unit wager on AUBURN +850.

Against the spread (ATS)

Four scores are a lot to spot a team that won the previous year’s meeting.  At what point would Auburn stop trying to score? I guess if Alabama gets up 35 we could see the Tigers throw in the towel.

If Auburn cannot keep up with Alabama’s No. 3 scoring offense, at least we know the backdoor is open. I cannot imagine Saban’s absence gives Alabama an edge here.

GIMME AUBURN +25 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

There should be some sticker shock when seeing this total given this game is an SEC-rivalry game between traditionally strong defensive programs. But each side’s defense has dropped off from last season. They combined for 93 points in the 2019 Iron Bowl.

Plus, both offenses are playing at nearly the same level and it’s the same starting quarterbacks as last season. I’ll take OVER 62.5 (-110) for 1 unit.
