Georgia baseball facing rivals Georgia Tech in regional final

UGA baseball is slated to face Georgia Tech in the Athens Regional final on Sunday

The Georgia Bulldogs will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the regional final. Georgia is 2-0 in the Athens Regional and just has to beat the Yellow Jackets once to advance to the super regionals.

Georgia Tech has one loss and needs to beat Georgia twice in a row to advance out of the Athens Regional. Georgia is 2-0 against Georgia Tech this season and was on its way to beating the Yellow Jackets a third time, but Georgia Tech ended the game due to weather.

Georgia Tech eliminated UNC Wilmington earlier on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets won 3-1 after patiently waiting through a rain delay.

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET and will be played at Foley Field. Georgia would host a super regional if the Bulldogs can win in one (or two) games against Georgia Tech.

Georgia’s pitching staff got some rest in the Dawgs’ 11-2 win over UNC Wilmington yesterday. “Saving some additional bullets for tomorrow was big,” said Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson.

UGA baseball tops UNCW with grand slam, offensive surge

The Georgia baseball team is one win away from advancing to the super regionals!

The Georgia Bulldogs topped the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a 11-2 victory to remain on the winner’s side of the bracket in the Athens Regional. Georgia is 2-0 to start the regional with wins over Army and UNC Wilmington.

Georgia infielder Kolby Branch hit a historic grand slam in the second inning. Branch’s grand slam was hit fourth of the season, which is the most in any individual season in Georgia baseball history.

“When Corey (Collins) can set the tone like that, it’s good to see,” said Kolby Branch on Corey Collins, who opened the game with a solo home run. “He steps up there and, he’s done it too many times this season, the way he gets on the line and just lights the room up and makes everyone calm down just a tad. It’s good to see.”

Georgia’s pitching staff held UNC Wilmington in check. The Bulldogs got a decent start from Kolten Smith who allowed two runs and four hits over four innings. Smith struggled with control and walked six batters.

The winner of Game 2 will play against Georgia on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET. The loser of Game 2 will face Army in an elimination game on Saturday at noon ET.
