This game is going to be a shadow of what it could be. Manchester United is entering with several players either out or doubtful, heavily impacting the odds.

Players like star M Paul Pogba to F Cristiano Ronaldo are out and doubtful, respectively, for United, among other key personnel. For Villa, M Philippe Coutinho is doubtful while M John McGinn and M Leon Bailey are both out.

United took a 1-0 loss to the Wolves in its last EPL action, but picked up a 1-0 victory over Villa in the FA Cup Monday. Villa lost 2-1 to Brentford and 3-1 to Chelsea in its most recent EPL results.

“LEAN” to MANCHESTER UNITED (+145).

While it’s down players, Ronaldo is listed as “doubtful,” so he could draw the start. United is a far deeper team with players like M Fred and F Edison Cavani likely also to start.

Villa has also been in terrible form as of late with four losses in its last six EPL games. While United hasn’t had much success, it has at least won four of its last six games and sit 7th on the table.

Both teams have played 19 games with United having a +3 goal differential and Villa a -5. Despite being on the road, I’ll take the plus-money United to win just as they did in the FA Cup.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 2.5 (-122).

Man U is going be down at least one key defender. For Villa, F Danny Ings is set to play, and he’s had a terrific career. Ings should be able to have his way with the United defense.

United has a lacking defense as well, evidenced by 27 goals allowed in 19 games. Similarly, Villa has allowed 30 goals in 19, so there’s no reason to think they’ll be able to limit United.

Given how both teams have played this season, I’d prefer to bet on more goals Saturday.

Chelsea will need this win to keep pace with Manchester City and Liverpool as they’ve fallen behind the league leaders.

Chelsea has been so dominant this season behind a mere 12 goals conceded across 18 matches while scoring 39 of its own. Midfielders Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz are doubtful for the away side, although it seems like Lukaku may be the more likely of the two to see time.

Aston Villa sits just inside the top half of the table despite a negative goal differential. Villa has struggled for victory and managed only one draw behind just 23 goals for across 18 matches. D Ashley Young is doubtful but may suit up and star M Leon Bailey has been declared out.

Lukaku is arguably the best nine in the world but may not have full match fitness after missing time — if he plays at all. M Timo Werner‘s is out. Those are a couple of key attackers for Chelsea. The energy should favor Villa in its home grounds.

Chelsea is undefeated in nine of its last 10 matches against Villa, so I wouldn’t quite bank on an upset either. However, Villa’s strength is in its attack. 25-year-old F Ollie Watkins should be available and press that quality Chelsea backline.

A draw here, for this value, feels like a good wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (-140) as Chelsea’s backline is healthy and just that good.

Chelsea has given up the second-fewest goals in the EPL this season behind only Manchester City. Jorginho, who typically anchors the backend of the team’s midfield, should be available, along with veteran D Thiago Silva.

Combine the expertise of those two with the weakened Chelsea attack, and it feels like a game that should see few goals. Chelsea’s last two EPL matches have combined for just two goals.

While I wanted to “lean” to Manchester City (-260) the value just isn’t necessarily conducive to the risk being taken.

I do think BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE “NO” (-135) has some value, especially given how dominant Man City’s defense has been.

Considering one of the three players that lead Aston Villa’s attack (all tied with 3 goals) is out, City’s defense should be able to lock in on other threats.

City’s defense is one of just two to allow single-digit goals so far this season, having given up just 7 across its 13 matches. Betting against goals is the smarter move with Ings and two of Manchester’s key offensive-minded midfielders all sidelined.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 2.5 (+112) as the better side of the total.

Behind Sterling and quality midfielder İlkay Gündoğan City should be able to get on the board, but it would be shocking to see them put up three or more goals without de Bruyne and Grealish in the lineup.

Combine that with Ings’ absence and a formidable City defense, and I would rather bet that both attacks struggle with City scoring a couple of times but not putting up 3 or more.

BET on ARSENAL (-105) as the home favorite to get the job done. Since their Covid-19 outbreak within the club, they’ve been much better.

Getting players like star F Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back in action has been huge for them. Arsenal will be without key M Granit Xhaka, giving 21-year-old Emile Smith Rowe a larger role.

Having not lost in almost two months, I’m taking the home team with momentum. Villa has some good performances, but two losses to mid-tier opponents are disappointing.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 2.5 (-130) as the better play.

While Villa may not come out on top, they do have F Danny Ings. He’s netted three on the season and vs. an Arsenal side that gave up 2 goals to Crystal Palace.

Both clubs have 3 clean sheets in 8 games. Each club also ranks in the bottom four in tackles. With a combined 24 goals having been given up, I’m going to bet on the stars to shine offensively rather than rely on flawed defenses.

PASS on the money line. Manchester United is the popular play, but it has taken on four of the six worst teams in the EPL through five games.

The other match was its most recent EPL showing, a 2-1 victory over West Ham in which it was saved by an 89th-minute goal. Betting -250 just isn’t smart.

BOTH SIDES TO SCORE (-125) is also a fine play, as Man U has the league’s best attack but is also lacking defense.

It has given up a goal in four of five EPL matches and scored in each performance. Aston Villa and its opponent both scored in two of five matches.

Given how Man U should dictate the pace with its elite midfield, the pace should bode well for ample opportunity for both sides.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 3.5 (+145) as Manchester United has the most lethal scoring attack in the EPL.

With Ronaldo now set into the system, having scored 3 goals since his debut, Ronaldo, F Bruno Fernandez and Pogba should be able to create plenty of chances.

Man U had 10 shots on goal against West Ham and easily could’ve pocketed a few more goals. It has scored 13 goals through 5 matches on the season.

As for Aston Villa, it scored 8 goals through 5 games and has given up 7; however, it gave up 3 against Chelsea, which is an attacking side comparable to Man U.

“LEAN” to EVERTON (+205) as the value is just too good for a top-five side to win. Everton has been handling business against bottom- and mid-tier opponents despite not being quite in the Chelsea-calibre tier.

Everton is no stranger to being on the road, either, as its best win on the season is at Brighton.

Everton’s attack is what has set them apart so far but they’re also one of nine teams that have not given up 4 total goals on the season.

I expect Everton to come out on top against a flawed Aston Villa side, and would certainly put half a unit on it at this value.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 2.5 (-102) as both sides have the attacking prowess that should help make this an entertaining match.

While Aston Villa isn’t a great attacking side on paper, it’s managed to score in every game except against Chelsea and scored at least 2 goals in two of its three other games.

Everton is strong defensively, but it has also allowed a goal per game and scored more than 2 goals per game. Everton has seen 14 total goals in its four games while Aston Villa has seen 12 goals in four games, both averaging a combined 3 or more total goals per game.

Aston Villa allowed 3 goals to Watford – the only 3 goals Watford has scored across four games. Villa also allowed 3 to Chelsea. Everton has a solid attack fronted by 25-year-old M Demarai Gray. Gray is tied for the club lead with 3 goals.

PASS on the money line as -320 for Chelsea to win is just too pricey.

In the EPL, great teams can always slip up (see Man City against Tottenham in the opening weekend). Chelsea is the better side but not at more than three-to-one.

Now, I do like BOTH SIDES TO SCORe (+115) as both teams scored in every match thus far.

Chelsea has a terrific offense with M Christian Pulisic and M Mason Mount delivering balls to Lukaku; however, the former won’t play Saturday due to injury. One also couldn’t avoid mentioning how well M Kai Havertz has played this season.

Aston Villa has the seventh-most goals in the EPL, so it clearly has an attack capable of producing.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 2.5 (-130) as the best value in this match.

Chelsea, behind Mount and Lukaku, has a terrific attack. It scored 3 goals against Crystal Palace with each of the other matches hitting at least two totals goals and the same can be said for Aston Villa. It totaled 2 goals in two matches and five in the other.

Expect the Over 2.5 to hit as the top offenses have consistently performed well this season.
