Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 13 vs. Patriots

The Los Angeles Chargers activated two linebackers.

The Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 13 bout against the Patriots.

Los Angeles activated linebacker Asmar Bilal from the injured reserve and activated LB Cole Christiansen and nose tackle Breiden Fehoko from the practice squad.

With LB Denzel Perryman doubtful and Kyzir White still on the COVID-19 list, Bilal and Christiansen fill in for tomorrow’s contest. Earlier, coach Anthony Lynn said Christiansen and Nick Vigil could be the guys called upon.

Running back Troymaine Pope was added to the injury report with a neck injury and is questionable. Assistant Defensive Line Coach La’Roi Glover will be unavailable for Sunday’s contest. The reason for Glover’s unavailability remains to be seen.

Chargers place 3 players on injured reserve, add 5 from practice squad

The Los Angeles Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

The Chargers announced a handful of roster moves ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

Los Angeles has placed defensive end Melvin Ingram, defensive tackle Justin Jones and linebacker Asmar Bilal on the injured reserve.

Ingram has been dealing with a knee injury. Jones has a shoulder issue, and Bilal has had a calf injury.

With Ingram out, Uchenna Nwosu will likely start at LEO while Jerry Tillery will get an uptick of snaps as the three-technique.

In correspondence, L.A. activated linebacker Malik Jefferson, guard Ryan Groy and defensive end Jesse Liemonier. They have also promoted running back Darius Bradwell and safety Jahleel Addae from the practice squad.

Ingram, Jones and Bilal are eligible to return in three weeks.

Notre Dame football: What the Buck?

2020 will be interesting for Notre Dame at the Buck linebacker position. Will someone step up and take the majority of snaps?

One of the more interesting position battles entering the season for Notre Dame still appears to be on-going as both Shayne Simon and Marist Liufau were listed atop the Buck linebacker position in the weekly depth chart.

Both of them beating out senior Jordan Genmark Heath seems to have led to his exit from the Notre Dame football program while junior Jack Lamb and sophomore Jack Kiser were both beaten out for the spot.

Brian Kelly spoke about Simon and Liufau early in the week, praising the camps that both have had.

“Both of them are prepared and ready to play,” Kelly said. “Clark Lea will make the decision as to who runs out there with the starting group, but both of them have had great camps and both of them are prepared and ready to play a lot of football for us.”

There isn’t a bunch of experience at the Buck linebacker position for Notre Dame which means they’ll need to find some instant success there again like they did last year with Asmar Bilal.

Liufau played in just four games last season but they were perhaps the four biggest games Notre Dame had as he faced off against Georgia, Virginia, USC and Michigan.  His size isn’t the greatest but his athleticism makes up for some of that.

Simon enters the year coming off a knee injury he suffered against Navy.  His high-point of last year came when he recorded 1.5 tackles for loss in a blowout victory over Bowling Green.

The Buck linebacker position was a big question entering the 2019 season before Bilal took over and ran with it all the way towards the top of the team leaderboard for tackles a season ago.

Can lighting strike twice and Liufau or Simon go from being concerns to strengths?

Step one in finding the answer to that question out

Notre Dame Lands One on Pro Football Focus All Week 11 Team

there is Notre Dame representation on it and as you’d probably assume after watching Saturday’s 38-7 destruction of Duke, it was a defensive player.

Pro Football Focus has named its team of the week for this past weekend of games and there is Notre Dame representation on it and as you’d probably assume after watching Saturday’s 38-7 destruction of Duke, it was a defensive player.

Asmar Bilal recorded five tackles without missing any, a quarterback hit and didn’t allow a catch in his coverages.

The man in the middle for the Fighting Irish, Bilal was dominant in all facets for Notre Dame in their win against Duke. He recorded a QB hit, five total tackles without a miss and didn’t allow a catch into his coverage. He spent double-digit snaps in all facets and put forth great grades, leading the team in overall grade while finishing with elite grades in run defense. – Pro Football Focus on Bilal
