Browns announce 8 changes to their coaching staff

The Browns announce 8 changes to their staff.

The Cleveland Browns are getting set for the NFL Scouting Combine, and they have finalized eight changes to their staff before hitting the road for Indianapolis, Indiana. The hire of Bill Musgrave as a Senior Offensive Assistant has been the headlining hire over the past couple of days, but there is also still a vacancy at passing game coordinator on the defensive side of the ball.

Outside of the hiring of Musgrave, here are seven other moves the Browns have finalized as we get set for the start of the new league year, the combine, and for some new faces to join the roster in free agency.

Cardinals OC Drew Petzing targeting Browns’ Ashton Grant to join staff

Grant has been on the Browns’ offensive staff the last three years.

The Arizona Cardinals have announced that Drew Petzing, formerly the quarterbacks coach of the Cleveland Browns, is their new offensive coordinator under new head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Petzing hopes to bring some of the offensive staff from the Browns to the Cardinals.

Israel Woolfork is expected to become the Cardinals’ quarterbacks coach and, according to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, is targeting Ashton Grant, who was the Browns’ offensive quality control coach last season, to join him in Arizona.

Grant has been coaching for three years. He joined the Browns in 2020 through their first-ever Bill Willis Coaching Fellowship, a program created to give an opportunity for a minority coach on the offensive side of the ball. It is similar to the Cardinals’ Bill Bidwill coaching Fellowship.

Grant was on the staff for two seasons under that fellowship and became offensive quality control coach in 2022.

He worked closely with the Browns’ run game coordinator and running backs coach Stump Mitchell and also pass game coordinator and receivers coach Chad O’Shea.

Browns offensive assistant Ashton Grant will get close look at Senior Bowl

Grant will help the team scout the event.

The Senior Bowl is in a couple of weeks and the Cleveland Browns will send an offensive assistant to Mobile to coach the National Teams wide receivers. Ashton Grant joined the team in 2020 as the first-ever recipient of the team’s Bill Willis Coaching Fellowship. The Fellowship aims to promote opportunities for minority coaching candidates on the offensive side of the ball.

The Browns could look to add a wide receiver in the draft and Grant will provide them with valuable scouting notes and information. Any chance you can get extra up-close time with draft prospects it is always a good thing for the organization.
