DL A’Shawn Robinson signing with New York Giants

Former Alabama defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson signed a one-year deal worth up to $8-million. The two came to terms on Monday afternoon.

Former Alabama defensive lineman and Super Bowl LVI champion A’Shawn Robinson signed with the New York Giants on Monday afternoon. The two sides came to terms on a one-year deal worth up to $8-million.

Robinson began his professional career with the Detroit Lions in 2016. In four seasons with the team, he tallied 172 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and seven sacks.

Following the 2019 season, Robinson signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams. There, he spent the next three seasons. Despite having multiple injuries, Robinson still found himself to be an intrical piece of the Rams’ defensive line unit.

He recorded 121 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks in his Rams career.

The Giants have been unable to reach a contract extension with defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. Therefore, the addition of Robinson is huge at this point in time. He is a great run-stopper and has proven that he can rush the passer effectively as well. Robinson will benefit from being a part of a unit that was in desperate need a presence along the interior of the defensive line.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama players in the NFL.

Giants sign DT A’Shawn Robinson

The New York Giants have signed veteran defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson, who had an earlier visit.

As free agency approached, most assumed the New York Giants and general manager Joe Schoen would spend the vast majority of their resources at the wide receiver position.

However, Schoen had repeatedly expressed concern over the middle of the defense, namely depth along the defensive line and the need for an inside linebacker. And when the new league year arrived, those are precisely the areas he targeted.

Although the Giants have added wide receiver depth, most of their big spend (outside of quarterback Daniel Jones) has come on the defensive side of the ball. And that trend continued on Monday.

The Giants and veteran defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson agreed to a deal and a contract was signed just an hour later.

Robinson was originally a second-round pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2016 NFL draft. He spent the first four years of his career in Detroit before signing a free-agent deal with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020.

In 93 career games (61 starts), the 6-foot-4, 330-pound Robinson has recorded 293 tackles (181 solo, 20 for a loss), 20 QB hits, 7.0 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 17 passes defensed, one interception and one defensive touchdown.

Robinson earned a Pro Football Focus grade of 64.4 in 2022. His highest-graded season came in 2018 with the Lions when he earned an impressive 89.7.

Robinson joins a deepening rotation that currently consists of Dexter Lawrence, Leonard Williams, D.J. Davidson, and Rakeem Nunez-Roches.

5 remaining free agents who could still help Giants in 2023

The New York Giants still have several roster needs to address and these five remaining free agents could help in 2023.

The New York Giants entered free agency with a plethora of roster holes that needed to be addressed. And for the most part, general manager Joe Schoen did precisely that.

However, with the 2023 NFL draft now less than three weeks away, several issues remain. The Giants need depth at multiple positions and are still potentially seeking starters at others.

Here are five remaining free agents the Giants could sign who would pay dividends in 2023.

25 remaining free agents the Vikings can still sign

The NFL Draft is fast approaching, but there is still plenty of talent left in free agency for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings made plenty of waves during free agency with the signings of Josh Oliver, Marcus Davenport and Byron Murphy Jr. They have a few of their own free agents still out on the market and could potentially make some waves before and after the draft.

Who could the Vikings target that is still available? There are quite a few solid veteran options available and things could change after the draft.

What do the Vikings do if they trade a player like Ezra Cleveland?

Will the sign another edge rusher or running back when they inevitably trade Za’Darius Smith and Dalvin Cook?

Browns: 5 Under-the-radar targets on the market in NFL free agency

The Browns have made a pretty big dent in free agency, but there is still talent at needed positions on the market

While the Cleveland Browns have already made quite a dent in their team needs throughout the first month of NFL free agency, there are still talented players on the roster. With the 2023 NFL Draft just three weeks away, they get an opportunity to add young talent there as well. However, there are still sleepers on the market in free agency for the Browns to consider.

Here are five names of players who may not be at the top of wishlists, but can come in and compete for depth spots on the roster, or even sneak into a starting role if they find their way to Cleveland.

Which defensive tackle could the Browns target next?

The Browns may still be in the market for another defensive tackle. Who are the best still on the market?

They have already added Dalvin Tomlinson, Maurice Hurst, and Trysten Hill at the defensive tackle position in NFL free agency. However, the Cleveland Browns are potentially still in the market for one more sturdy veteran to add to their roster as the defensive tackle market has plateaued a bit.

Lucky for the Browns, there are a handful of veterans who have played valuable football in recent years still on the market. Who are the best remaining defensive tackles still on the market? Here are a dozen names to keep an eye on as free agency continues with the 2023 NFL Draft left less than a month away.

Available free agents for Cardinals that make sense, have some connection

These five players fill needs and have connections to either the Cardinals’ coaching staff or front office.

The Arizona Cardinals have not been super active in free agency so far. Thus far, the moves have been slow and deliberate, without much flash.

Many free agents who both have some connection to the coaching staff or front office are still available and fill a need the team still has.

A’Shawn Robinson to visit Giants on Monday

The New York Giants will host veteran defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson for a visit in East Rutherford on Monday.

The New York Giants offseason is off to a banner start with general manager Joe Schoen filling several gaping holes and restocking the roster.

The defensive line was an issue as the season wore on in 2022 and Schoen is determined to have sufficient depth this time around. The team is entertaining a visit from former Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson early next week.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report.

“Robinson has had a quiet market coming off a torn meniscus,” writes NBC Sports Edge. “Robinson was limited to 10 games last year before landing on IR but should be healthy for the start of the offseason. He would be part of a crowded defensive line with Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence if he signs with the Giants.”

The Giants just signed former Tampa Bay veteran lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches in free agency. Robinson would raise the level of the D-line rotation overall. Another solid move for Schoen if he can pull it off.

Ranking the 10 best free agent defensive tackles available for the Saints

Ranking the 10 best free agent defensive tackles available for the Saints, with Sheldon Rankins on top:

Everyone knows what position the New Orleans Saints need to make a priority: defensive tackle. The team lost its top two players in Monday’s start to the free agent legal tampering period, with David Onyemata joining the Atlanta Falcons and Shy Tuttle going to the Carolina Panthers. All of their other interior linemen who got on the field last year are free agents — Malcolm Roach (who wants to test the market before accepting a two-year contract offer), Kentavius Street, and Albert Huggins. The Saints couldn’t field a complete defense if they had a game today.

And money has been flying around the league with defensive tackles on the move. The San Francisco 49ers are going to sign Javon Hargrave. The Washington Commanders retained Daron Payne. The Seattle Seahawks lured in Dre’Mont Jones. And the Cleveland Browns reached an agreement with Dalvin Tomlinson. The cupboard is starting to thin out before the Saints even get on the board.

Still, there are options available. Here are the top ten free agents still out there at their top position of need:

1 free agent the Saints could target from each NFC West team

1 free agent New Orleans Saints could target from each NFC West team: If the Saints strike out on Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo might be the next-best QB available

What happens if the New Orleans Saints strike out on Derek Carr? Acquiring a veteran free agent quarterback is still probably their best bet, and at least one option looks to be coming out of the NFC West: San Francisco 49ers free agent Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, whether the Saints can afford to pay what he’ll be seeking from other teams remains to be seen.

He’s just one of the free agents looking to hit the market from out west, along with players from the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks. How competitive the Saints can be in signing fresh talent is anyone’s guess right now, but let’s survey the players who could soon be available:
