Texas lands commitment from five-star point guard Arterio Morris

Chris Beard is unstoppable! Texas lands a commitment from an elite 2022 prospect in five-star point guard Arterio Morris.

Chris Beard is working his recruiting magic again.

On Saturday, the Longhorns picked up their first commit of the 2022 class in five-star point guard Arterio Morris.

The former Memphis commit is out of Lewisville, Texas and attends iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy. He is an electrifying player that has drawn comparisons to Ja Morant. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound point guard is ranked the No. 21 overall player in the 2022 class and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Texas according to 247Sports.

Morris chose Texas over Kansas, Oregon, and Georgia.

His commitment is just what Texas needs, as they will lose veteran guards such as Courtney Ramey, Andrew Jones, and Jase Ferbes after this season. Take a look at his sophomore mixtape to see how shifty and high-flying Morris is already.

Morris’ commitment is a great sign for Beard and his staff, as they are already attracting top high school talent without even playing a game yet. Texas’ 2022 class has the potential to be the highest ranked class since 2019, when the Longhorns hauled in the No. 17 class in the nation.

Four-star PG from Dallas releases top five, Texas makes the cut

Chris Beard continues to push for top in-state recruits in the ’22 class. On Thursday, UT came closer to hauling in of the cycle’s best PGs.

Chris Beard continues to push for top prospects in the 2022 class, especially in the state of Texas. On Thursday, the Longhorns came closer to landing one of the cycle’s best point guards.

Four-star point guard Arterio Morris released his top five schools, with Texas still in the hunt. Florida, Georgia, Kansas, and Oregon remain the competition for Morris.

The former Memphis commit reversed his initial pledge back in January. Penny Hardaway offered Morris in late July 2020, where he committed the same day. Now, the Tigers are no longer in the running.

According to 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins, “Morris is an elite point guard prospect who has the upside to potentially be the best player from the 2022 class.” His comparison was former No. 2 overall pick Ja Morant, who is now with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Hoopfest: 2022 combo guard Arterio Morris steals the show

Elite sophomore Arterio Morris stole the show in day one of the Thanksgiving Hoopfest.

DALLAS – Kimball (Dallas) combo guard Arterio Morris won’t go as far as saying he was more excited to be playing against another elite player in Christian Brothers College (St. Louis, Missouri) point guard Caleb Love, a North Carolina signee who is ranked No. 25 overall in USA Today Sports’ Chosen 25, but he was clear that Love was in the opposing jersey.

HOOPFEST: Bryce Thompson thrives after committing to Kansas

“I just go in to every game trying to dominate,” said Morris, a sophomore. “Doesn’t matter who it is, but I do like playing against guys like that. I just like to compete.”

Morris parlayed that mindset into a dominant performance, scoring 27 points, grabbing nine rebounds and blocking four shots to lead the Knights past the Cadets 75-67 on Friday at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest.

“I just have the mentality this year to kill on the court,” Morris said. “In everything I do, on each side of the court it’s kill, kill, kill. That’s it.”

This summer, Morris averaged 12 points, five rebounds and six assists for Showtime (Texas) and picked up offers from Texas Tech and Texas-Arlington, but with three years left in high school, naturally, Morris said he’s more focused on improvement.

HOOPFEST: Nimiari Burnett’s halfcourt shot goes viral

“I want the offers, of course, but I have to focus on my game,” Morris said. “I know that’s the thing that takes care of everything else. I want to get more offers and get noticed more so the way to do that is to produce on the court. I put all of my energy into that.”
