Falcons 2022 draft class: 3 rookie breakout candidates

Atlanta Falcons 2022 NFL Draft Class: Three Rookies Who Could Break Out This Season

After rebuilding the majority of their defense, the Atlanta Falcons will be relying on new faces at several key positions this season.

The offensive side of the ball has a bit more veteran leadership, but we are long past the days of Alex Mack, Julio Jones and Matt Ryan leading the way. Additionally, the loss of Calvin Ridley for the 2022 season — and maybe beyond — forced the team to invest heavily in the wide receiver position over the offseason.

Here’s a look at three members of the Falcons’ 2022 draft class who could break out as rookies.

Why Falcons fans should be excited about Arnold Ebiketie

Breaking down what Penn State pass rusher Arnold Ebiketie brings to the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons went into the 2022 NFL draft with huge needs at multiple positions on both sides of the ball, and none more pressing than at the edges of their defensive front.

After opting to help the offense with their top-10 selection in the first round, the Dirty Birds turned their attention to that edge defender spot to kick off their Day 2, spending the No. 38 overall pick on Penn State’s Arnold Ebiketie.

An explosive edge rusher with a knack for making big plays once he gets to the opposing quarterback, Ebiketie was projected by many to be a first-round talent, making him a potential bargain for the Falcons in the second round. Even in a class loaded with talented edge rushers, Ebiketie could have easily found himself among the top 32 picks.

His wait will be Atlanta’s gain, as the Falcons grabbed a dynamic sack artist who immediately becomes their most dangerous threat to the passer. He has the technique and pass-rushing moves to make an immediate impact, even if he’s eased into the speed of the NFL game as a rotational player in his rookie season.

It shouldn’t take long for Ebiketie’s pass-rushing prowess to earn him full-time snaps for the Falcons, and his ability to knock the ball loose and create takeaways should be a welcome addition for a defense that’s desperate for more big plays.

Penn State photos: Adisa Isaac ready for bounce-back 2022

Best photos of Penn State defensive end Adisa Isaac, one of the top players to watch in 2022.

Penn State’s defensive line has the potential to be an incredibly effective unit from end to end. Even after sending off one player to a second-round draft pick ([autotag]Arnold Ebiketie[/autotag]), the defensive end position still packs plenty of power and athleticism on the edge of the line. One player hoping to secure a starting job at the vacant position left by Ebiketie is [autotag]Adisa Isaac[/autotag].

Isaac was on track to be one of Penn State’s most important cogs in the defense in 2021, but he was sidelined with an injury prior to the season for the entire year. Now Isaac is one of two players returning from injury hoping to create a big impact on the defensive line, with defensive tackle [autotag]PJ Mustipher[/autotag] being the other.

Here are some of the best photos of Adisa Isaac so far during his time at Penn State.

Who will Penn State draftees be playing in their first NFL game?

The NFL schedule release lets us know when Penn State’s latest NFL draft class is set to make their NFL debut.

The 2022 NFL draft has come and gone and in doing so Penn State fans have new players to follow as they pursue professional careers.

This draft class saw eight Nittany Lions get drafted over the course of the drafts seven rounds. They then saw five more players get signed as undrafted free agents, sending 13 players to the NFL off of a college roster is no easy task. It speaks to what [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] and his staff have been able to do with their players and why he is seeing a recruiting boom taking place in Happy Valley.

After careers that saw them build themselves up at Beaver Stadium they now will begin the grueling travel of a 17-game NFL schedule. Take a look at who and where they will be playing in their first NFL games.

The first day of the NFL draft generally gets the most attention from the fans and media, but general managers do their heavy lifting on days two and three.

The Atlanta Falcons added USC wide receiver Drake London on the draft’s opening night, then seven more players in rounds 2-7. Not only did the team land potential starters on both sides of the ball, the Falcons managed to fill most of their needs without reaching.

Let’s check out one noteworthy stat from each member of Atlanta’s 2022 draft class.

Penn State football 2022 NFL draft player signing tracker

The Penn State football 2022 NFL draft player signing tracker is now live!

Penn State is coming off an impressive 2022 NFL draft that saw a Big Ten-leading eight players selected by NFL franchises. The highlight of the draft class was first-round pick [autotag]Jahan Dotson[/autotag] going to the Washington Commanders as the highest-drafted receiver from Penn State in nearly 40 years.

But now that the draft picks have all been made, it is now time to see just how lucrative those rookie contracts will end up being for the eight drafted Nittany Lions. As is to be expected, players selected in the later rounds will likely be among the first in this draft class to let the ink dry on their fresh contracts, while some of the earlier picks may benefit from seeing how some contracts are coming together.

Arnold Ebiketie’s and Jaquan Brisker’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year odds

What are Arnold Ebiketie’s and Jaquan Brisker’s NFL defensive rookie of the year award odds?

Penn State ended up seeing a good handful of its top defensive players from 2021 go on to be selected by multiple NFL teams in the 2022 NFL draft. Among the defensive standouts being drafted were defensive end [autotag]Arnold Ebiketie[/autotag] to the Atlanta Falcons and safety [autotag]Jaquan Brisker[/autotag] to the Chicago Bears. Both players were drafted in the second round, which means both are considered long-shot players to take home the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year award.

Former Penn State linebacker [autotag]Micah Parsons[/autotag] was the unanimous winner of the defensive rookie of the year award in 2021. But if Penn State is going to go back-to-back for the honor, Ebiketie or Brisker will have to overcome some tough odds in their rookie seasons.

Thanks to the odds released by Tipico Sportsbook, we know that the favorites to win the award next season are Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux (New York Giants) and Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson (Detroit Lions) at +450. Ebiketie is on the board at +4,000. Brisker comes in below that with +5,000 odds to win the award.

Former Penn State linebacker [autotag]Brandon Smith[/autotag] is listed at +8,000 with the Carolina Panthers. No other Penn State player currently appears on the odds from Tipico.

One of the many things we love about the NFL draft is that it gives us an idea of each team’s vision for their roster. Atlanta took Kyle Pitts in the top five last year and Drake London with the eighth overall pick in the 2022 draft, showing the team’s preference for big, physical pass-catchers.
