Arizona Coyotes at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Arizona Coyotes at Colorado Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Arizona Coyotes (11-10-3) play the first of a two-game set on the road against the Colorado Avalanche (13-7-2) Monday with a 9 p.m. ET puck drop at Ball Arena. Below, we analyze the Coyotes-Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Coyotes at Avalanche: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:25 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Coyotes +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Avalanche -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Coyotes +1.5 (-175) | Avalanche -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Coyotes at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Darcy Kuemper (7-7-2, 2.39 GAA, .915 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Philipp Grubauer (12-6-0, 2.06 GAA, .921 SV%, 3 SO)

Kuemper was sharp in Saturday’s start against Minnesota, stopping 32 of the 34 shots he faced to level his record at .500. He has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his past nine starts. This will be Kuemper’s first start against the Avalanche this season. He turned aside all 33 shots he faced in a 3-0 shutout against Colorado at Gila River Arena Nov. 2, 2019.

Grubauer had a couple of uneven results at the end of February, spilling over into March. He appeared to have righted the ship, however, blanking the Sharks in San Jose Wednesday and stopping 26 of 28 shots in a 3-2 overtime win against Anaheim on Friday at Ball Arena. He also allowed two goals on 25 shots in his only appearance against the Coyotes in a 6-2 win at Arizona Feb. 27.

Coyotes at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Coyotes 3

Money line (ML)

The Avalanche (-200) will cost you two times your potential return. That’s a little too rich for my blood for a team that is playing .500 hockey across the past eight outings, including a 1-3 mark across their past four at home. AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The COYOTES +1.5 (-175) are 0-2 against the Avalanche so far this season, but they have rattled off four victories in a row on the road. While I don’t think they pull out another win, they should be able to keep it close, and Kuemper is playing well enough in the crease to help them do just that.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-105) is a nice play here as Arizona is allowing 3.0 goals per game. Meanwhile, Colorado is averaging 3.8 goals per game across the past five, too. The Over has cashed in four of the past five meetings in this series. In addition, the Over has connected in 12 of the past 17 for Arizona as an underdog, while going 6-2 in their past eight on the road. The Avs are playing their fourth game in six days, and the Over is 9-3 in their past 12 in a 4-in-6 days situation.

Colorado Avalanche at Arizona Coyotes odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Colorado Avalanche at Arizona Coyotes NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Colorado Avalanche (9-6-1) kick off a two-game set on the road against the Arizona Coyotes (9-7-3) Friday with a 9 p.m. ET puck drop at Gila River Arena. Below, we analyze the Avalanche-Coyotes odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Avalanche at Coyotes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 3 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Coyotes +150 (bet $100 to win $150)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Avalanche -1.5 (+155) | Coyotes +1.5 (-190)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Avalanche at Coyotes: Projected starting goalies

Hunter Miska (0-1-1, 3.55 GAA, .881 SV%) vs. Adin Hill (1-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%,)

Miska gets the nod with a Friday-Saturday back-to-back set in the desert, as starter Philipp Grubauer needed a little more rest after a rare poor outing at home Wednesday against the Minnesota Wild. Miska hasn’t appeared in a game since Jan. 31, also against the Wild, and also a loss. He has coughed up 7 goals on 59 shots in his only two appearances.

Hill made his season debut in a difficult way Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks. He entered the crease in the third period for the injured Darcy Kuemper (lower body). Hill handled himself with aplomb, as the Coyotes stormed back from a 3-0 deficit, forced overtime, and won it in a shootout, mostly all on Hill’s watch. He makes his first NHL start since Feb. 19, 2020.

Avalanche at Coyotes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Coyotes 5, Avalanche 4

Money line (ML)

Back the COYOTES (+150), as they’re a significant value on home ice. Yes, they’re using a goalie who is making his first start in over a calendar year, but Hill certainly looked good when thrust into action without much warm-up.

The fact Miska is on the other end of the ice is the key here, though. He has allowed at least 3 goals in each of his two appearances while looking shaky.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Coyotes +1.5 (-190) are just over my personal limit of -180, although this is a tempting play. You can expect a seesaw affair in this one, and neither team is likely to pull away.

Still, just back Arizona to win straight up rather than putting up a bunch of juice on the underdog with just 1 goal of insurance in the event of a loss.

PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (+100) is the slam-dunk play, and at even money, too. Yes, Hill looked sharp the other night, but that was against the Wild. The Avalanche have been a high-octane offense this season, and that’s a tough assignment in your first start in over a year.

Again, Miska is between the pipes for the Avs, and he has allowed 3 or more goals in each of his two outings. This one should see end-to-end or fire wagon hockey for long stretches.

Anaheim Ducks at Arizona Coyotes odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Anaheim Ducks at Arizona Coyotes NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Anaheim Ducks (6-9-3) open a two-game set on the road against the Arizona Coyotes (7-7-3) Monday for a 9 p.m. ET puck drop at Gila River Arena. Below we analyze the Ducks-Coyotes NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Ducks at Coyotes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:47 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Ducks +125 (bet $100 to win $125) | Coyotes -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Ducks +1.5 (-250) | Coyotes -1.5 (+190)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

Ducks at Coyotes: Projected starting goalies

John Gibson (5-7-3, 2.57 GAA, .912 SV%, 3 SO) at Darcy Kuemper (5-7-2, 2.28 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO)

Gibson enters on a three-game skid, and the losing has been due to a number of reasons. He has allowed a total of 11 goals over the past three starts, but he also has had just four goals of offensive support, or 1.3 goals per game. He split his two starts earlier this season in Arizona, stopping all 31 shots he faced in a 1-0 shutout Jan. 26, and he was on the short end of a 3-2 loss Jan. 28.

Kuemper was on the winning side in both of those matchups against Gibson. He has been a little more consistent lately, allowing three or fewer goals in each of his past six starts. Goal support has been an issue for him recently, too. Arizona has provided a total of just six goals, or 1.5 goals per game, across his past four outings.

Ducks at Coyotes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Coyotes 3, Ducks 1

Money line (ML)

The COYOTES (-150) are on home ice, and they’re a better play than the Ducks, who have had a rather toothless offensive attack all season.

Anaheim was dusted 5-1 on home ice against the Minnesota Wild Saturday, and it has been outscored 11-4 during its three-game skid, all starts by Gibson. Take Arizona on home ice in what should be a lower-scoring battle.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The COYOTES -1.5 (+190) are worth a small-unit play in this Western Conference battle at GRA, although don’t risk too much. Just one of Arizona’s past five victories have been by one of more goals. But the way Anaheim struggles to score, Arizona has a good chance to get it done by at least two goals here.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5 (+110) is a good play, as the Ducks have really struggled offensively. They’re dead-last in the NHL with just 1.9 goals per game, and they’re 30th on shots on goal (26.3 SPG), while ranking 29th in power-play percentage (8.1%). Defensively, the Ducks are ninth in the league with just 2.6 goals per game allowed, while ranking fourth on the penalty kill at 87%.

The Coyotes aren’t much more prolific, ranking 22nd in the NHL with 2.6 GPG, and they’re 29th in SOG at 27.3 SPG. Defensively, the Coyotes are 10th on the kill at 85.5%. While it’s a little more on the expensive side, taking UNDER 5.5 (-160) on the alternate line might be an even better play.

St. Louis Blues at Arizona Coyotes odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s St. Louis Blues at Arizona Coyotes NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The St. Louis Blues (9-4-2) visit the Arizona Coyotes (6-6-2) Monday for a 4 p.m. ET puck drop. Below we analyze the Blues-Coyotes NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Blues at Coyotes: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:51 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blues -125 (bet $125 to win $100) | Coyotes +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blues -1.5 (+220) | Coyotes +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Blues at Coyotes: Projected starting goalies

Jordan Binnington (7-2-2, 2.50 GAA, .916 SV%) at Darcy Kuemper (4-6-1, 2.46 GAA, .913 SV%)

Binnington has faced the Coyotes four times already this season. The fourth outing was his best as he allowed just one goal on 25 shots in a 4-1 victory Friday night in Arizona. The win improved Binnington to 2-1-1 with a 2.51 GAA and .913 SV% in his four starts vs. the Coyotes.

Kuemper has appeared against the Blues four times, too. He is 2-2-0 with a 2.51 GAA and .918 SV% against St. Louis this season. He has allowed three or fewer goals in nine of his 11 outings to date.

Blues at Coyotes: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blues 4, Coyotes 3

Money line (ML)

The BLUES (-125) are a good play against the Coyotes in what will be the seventh meeting of the season already between these two clubs. They split the first six meetings with one game decided in overtime and one in a shootout. St. Louis has edged Arizona 20-19 in the six previous outings.

St. Louis has also racked up five straight wins on the road, while Arizona is 1-4 in its past five at home. The Blues have won 23 of the past 34 in the series and they’re 12-3 in their past 15 trips to Arizona.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Backing the Blues -1.5 (+220) vs. the Coyotes is risky based on the previous six outings as four of the games were decided by one goal. As such, the Blues are not a good play, and going with the Coyotes +1.5 (-275) is just too expensive. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (+100) is a great play. Four of the six head-to-head tilts this season hit the Over with an average 6.5 goals per game. So, playing the Over at even money is a prudent move.

The Blues are 8-3 Over in the past 11 overall and 12-4-1 in the past 17.

Coyotes at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Darcy Kuemper (0-1-1, .903 SV%, 2.95 GAA) vs. Robin Lehner (2-0-0, .926 SV%, 2.01 GAA)

Kuemper surrendered 3 goals in each of his two starts, including two third-period goals in Monday’s 4-2 loss at Vegas as he finished with 24 saves. Kuemper is 3-2-2 with a .942 SV% and 2.02 GAA in his career vs. the Golden Knights. If he doesn’t get the start, Antti Raanta (1-0-0, .912 SV%, 3.01 GAA) would get the nod. Marc-Andre Fleury (1-0-0, .955 SV%, 1.01 GAA) might get the start. He is 10-7-1 with a .926 SV% and a 2.18 GAA in 20 career games vs. Arizona.

Coyotes at Golden Knights: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Golden Knights 5, Coyotes 2

Money line (ML)

PASS. Vegas (-200) has won the last three vs. Arizona, including the final two head-to-head meetings last season. However, the price is too chalky to wager on.

Against the spread (ATS)

No matter who starts in net for both teams, VEGAS (-1.5, +135) is the way to go. If it wasn’t for Coyotes G Kuemper, Monday’s result wouldn’t have been as close.

The Knights are proving to be a strong finishing squad so far, outscoring opponents 7-0 in the third period. Also noteworthy, LW Max Pacioretty has scored a goal in each of Vegas’ first three games.

ATS: Coyotes 1-2 | Golden Knights 2-1

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Arizona’s first three games have all finished Over, witnessing 7, 8 and 6 goals. Let’s ride that trend until it ends.

O/U: Coyotes 3-0 | Golden Knights 2-1

Arizona Coyotes at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Arizona Coyotes at Vegas Golden Knights NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Arizona Coyotes (1-0-1) and Vegas Golden Knights (2-0-0) tee it up Monday at 10 p.m. ET for the first of two games at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the Coyotes-Golden Knights NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Coyotes at Golden Knights: Betting odds, spread and lines

  • Against the spread/ATS: Coyotes +1.5 (-160) | Golden Knights -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Coyotes at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Darcy Kuemper (0-0-1, .914 SV%, 2.86 GAA) vs. Robin Lehner (1-0-0, .909 SV%, 2.00 GAA)

Kuemper allowed three goals in his season debut, a 4-3 overtime loss to visiting San Jose Thursday. The 30-year-old netminder is coming off terrific back-to-back seasons. He logged a .928 SV% in 29 games last season, and was up and down in the playoffs with one good series (vs. the Nashville Predators) and one not-so-good (vs. the Colorado Avalanche).

Lehner stopped 20 of 22 shots in Thursday’s 5-2 home win against the Anaheim Ducks. The 29-year-old Swede has been a solid Vezina Trophy candidate each of the last two seasons. He registered four shutouts in the playoffs, three being at home.

Coyotes at Golden Knights: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Vegas 3, Arizona 1

Money line (ML)

Vegas (-200) went 2-1 against Arizona last season, and that’s about the calculus on odds for this one. PASS unless you can get Vegas at about -185.

Against the spread (ATS)

Two top-10 goalies make for a low total, and the wagering lean is on a lower figure, yet. So, there is certainly risk in a puck-line play. But the early analytics on Vegas is encouraging enough to warrant consideration of a GOLDEN KNIGHTS -1.5 (+135) play. Vegas has been dominant in creating high-leverage shots from the slot and denying them at the other end.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Golden Knights have yielded just 44 shots over two games. Analytics peg Arizona’s defense as being a bit overvalued through three games. But the goaltending matchup and the price make for value on the UNDER 5.5 (+100).

Previewing Thursday’s San Jose Sharks at Arizona Coyotes NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The San Jose Sharks visit the Arizona Coyotes Thursday at Gila River Arena in the 2021 season-opener for both teams. Puck drop will be at 9 p.m. ET between the West Division rivals. Below, we analyze the Sharks-Coyotes NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Sharks at Coyotes: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Sharks +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Coyotes -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Sharks +1.5 (-250) | Coyotes -1.5 (+200)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Sharks at Coyotes: Projected starting goalies

Martin Jones (17-21-2, .896 SV%, 3.00 GAA) vs. Darcy Kuemper (16-11-2, .928 SV%, 2.22 GAA)

Jones had an awful 2019-20 season with a career-worst goals against average. Devan Dubnyk was brought in to back him up this season, but Jones figures to get the first crack at the No. 1 job early on.

Kuemper was stellar last season but was limited to just 29 games in the regular season. He made nine playoff starts with a .913 save percentage but 3.47 GAA. He was required to make 40-plus saves in three of those nine games.

Sharks at Coyotes: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Sharks 4, Coyotes 3

Money line (ML)

The SHARKS (+110) are coming off a nightmare 2019-20 season in which they went 29-36-5 over 70 games and finished last in the Pacific Division. C Joe Thornton followed W Joe Pavelski out the door via free agency, but Logan CoutureEvander Kane and Tomas Hertl all return to lead the forward group and Patrick Marleau returns after leaving following the 2016-17 season. The Coyotes lost LW Taylor Hall to free agency.

The Sharks defense, led by Erik KarlssonBrent Burns and Marc-Edouard Vlasic is a supposed strength, at least on the offensive end of the ice.

Chase the value in what hopes to be a bounce-back season for San Jose. The Sharks had made the playoffs in 14 of 15 seasons before last year’s disaster.

Against the spread (ATS)

I’m OK paying up for the SHARKS +1.5 (-250) for one goal of insurance in the event of a loss. The Coyotes won the 2019-20 season series 2-1, but one of those victories was decided by just a 3-2 score.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-115) is the play in what should be expected to be a sloppy game based on the play seen around the NHL in Wednesday’s season-openers. The lack of preseason will have a more negative affect on defensive play than offense in the early going.

There are plenty of forwards in this game capable of capitalizing on mistakes and defensive zone turnovers.
