The good, the bad, the ugly: What stood out from Browns’ dominant win over Cardinals?

Here we break down the good, the bad, and the ugly as the Browns blew out the Cardinals.

After dismantling the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 27-0, the Cleveland Browns now sit at 5-3 on the season. Considering all the circumstances they have fought through this season, it is a miracle they sit a last two-minute meltdown a week ago away from 6-2. Regardless, a loss is a loss.

Sunday’s game, however, was a convincing win as the Browns managed to hound rookie quarterback Clayton Tune. The defense forced three turnovers, including two interceptions to cornerback Denzel Ward and linebacker Sione Takitaki.

Offensively, wide receiver Amari Cooper had himself a day, eclipsing the 100-yard mark on five catches, and adding a touchdown to his numbers. Quarterback Deshaun Watson used this game as an opportunity to get his feet wet before the Browns take on the Baltimore Ravens next week and even showed the flashes of what made him a quarterback that a dozen teams pursued two offseasons ago.

What stood out from this dominant Cleveland win? Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly as the Browns dropped the Cardinals to 1-8 on the season.

4 Downs: Baby steps taken by Browns’ offense vs. Cardinals; leap still needed

The Browns got another win on the season as Deshaun Watson played it safe in his return, and as Jim Schwartz routed the Cardinals.

It was not overly pretty, but at the end of the day, a team like the Cleveland Browns did exactly what they should have done to a team like the Arizona Cardinals. Jim Schwartz and his unit overwhelmed Clayton Tune in his NFL debut, and quarterback Deshaun Watson showed flashes of his former self as the Browns routed the Cardinals by a score of 27-0.

They fell a missed kick short of dropping a 30-burger in this game.

All of Amari Cooper, David Njoku, and Kareem Hunt found the endzone. On the other side of the ball, they created three turnovers against Tune and the Cardinals. Cornerback Denzel Ward and linebacker Sione Takitaki both had interceptions, while defensive tackle Shelby Harris added a strip sack. It was a dominating and convincing win for a now 5-3 Browns team.

As we do every week, it’s time for another edition of 4 Downs. And boy do they go down smoother after a Browns win.

Kareem Hunt keeps finding the endzone as the Browns continue blowout vs. Cardinals

The Browns are doing to a bad Cardinals team what they should. A Kareem Hunt touchdown adds to the rout.

For the fourth straight week, running back Kareem Hunt has found the endzone for the Cleveland Browns. As they continue the rout of the 1-7 Arizona Cardinals, the Browns now lead 27-0 as the debut of Clayton Tune has not been an easy one against Jim Schwartz’s defense.

Coming off of a long drive, quarterback Deshaun Watson found Amari Cooper once again, dropping a beautiful ball deep down the sideline. This put the Browns in scoring position, and well in position for Hunt to turn into a battering ram to plow his way into the endzone.

While Hunt only has 38 yards on 14 carries today as the Browns have not gotten the ground game going, he has been nothing short of a short-yardage warrior this season. He now has five touchdowns in his last four games after hitting paydirt again today.

The Browns are doing what they should to the 1-7 Cardinals. This is a good team as long as they do not beat themselves.

WATCH: Browns Shelby Harris sets up offense with strip sack vs. Cardinals

Another big play for the Browns defense

The defense of the Cleveland Browns has absolutely owned the Arizona Cardinals’ offense from the beginning of the game. The Cardinals had a total of 31 yards of offense in the first half of the game. Defensive tackle Shelby Harris has joined the big play club after stripping Clayton Tune of the ball as it was recovered by Myles Garrett deep in Cardinals territory. This is one of three turnovers created on the day.

The offense was able to punch the ball into the end zone after the play from Harris. He was an underrated signing by general manager Andrew Berry and Cleveland late into training camp to help complete the defensive line makeover. The team needed the defense to show up today as Watson works his way back and so far so good.

The Cardinals just haven’t been able to do much of anything today against this Browns defense. It is hard to win in the NFL so you will take whatever you can get and it’s been a great game so far.

Browns create another turnover as Sione Takitaki picks off Clayton Tune vs. Cardinals

The Browns are all over Clayton Tune and the Cardinals as Sione Takitaki is the latest to get in on the action

The Cleveland Browns have created their third turnover of the game against the Arizona Cardinals. After cornerback Denzel Ward got the first interception on the day, linebacker Sione Takitaki now gets in on the action, taking advantage of a poor Clayton Tune throw. This puts the Browns back in excellent field position yet again as they already hold a 20-0 lead over the Cardinals.

Tune now sits at 6-of-13 passing with 27 yards and two interceptions on the afternoon against the vaunted Cleveland defense. A tough situation for any rookie, let along a fifth round pick to make a debut in.

Takitaki has been one of the more solid, dependable players for the Browns over the past five seasons since he was drafted in the third round in 2019. Even after suffering a torn ACL late in last season, Takitaki has returned in full force for the Cleveland defense.

He is truly an unsung hero of this defense.

Browns leap out to 20-0 lead as Deshaun Watson finds David Njoku vs. Cardinals

The Browns are in full control against the Cardinals as Deshaun Watson finds David Njoku for his second touchdown in as many weeks

As they should be, the 4-3 Cleveland Browns are in the driver’s seat against the 1-7 Arizona Cardinals. After a massive defensive play by defensive tackle Shelby Harris to force a fumble on a sack, the Cleveland Browns marched down a short field. The drive was capped off as quarterback Deshaun Watson connected with tight end David Njoku for a five-yard touchdown through the air. They are now up 20-0 in this game.

It has not been pretty offensively. The Browns have had their flashes but have lacked consistency. In Watson’s return to the field, he has been off-and-on, as he has yet to find a groove. With still 20 minutes left in the game, the Browns are going to hope they can get their franchise quarterback into some sort of a rhythm before traveling to take on the Baltimore Ravens next week.

Playing turnover-free football, however, Watson sits 16-of-26 passing with 150 yards and two touchdowns on the day against the Cardinals.

RT Dawand Jones exits Browns vs. Cardinals with leg injury

Cleveland Browns rookie RT Dawand Jones exits Cardinals game with a knee injury.

Dawand Jones, the Cleveland Browns’ rookie right tackle, left the game against the Arizona Cardinals at the start of the third quarter with a leg injury. The injury occurred when a tackler landed on the back of his leg. Jones was able to leave the field under his power walking toward the medical tent. The fourth-round pick has drawn rave reviews across the NFL with his great play. Hopefully, he will be able to return later in the game.

This came right after injured left tackle Jedrick Wills returned to the field.

Backup swing tackle James Hudson III has replaced Dawand Jones for the time being. Hudson played in the game to end the first half after Jedrick Wills Jr. suffered a minor injury. The Browns will rely on their offensive line and running game to close out the game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Browns currently lead the Cardinals 13-0.

UPDATE: Jones is back on the field for the Browns.

Browns lose another WR as Marquise Goodwin exits vs. Cardinals

The Browns are already down a wide receiver and just lost another one as Marquise Goodwin exits against the Cardinals.

The Cleveland Browns entered the week down two wide receivers already after trading away Donovan Peoples-Jones, and David Bell was ruled out with a knee injury. And now they lose another one against the Arizona Cardinals as veteran Marquise Goodwin has exited the game with an apparent head injury.

Failing to haul in a deep ball down the field from Deshaun Watson through contact, the veteran speedster took a shot to the back of the head. He stayed down on the field after the play before eventually walking off with the training staff.

This leaves a bigger workload on the plate of third round rookie Cedric Tillman as the wide receiver depth of the Browns is being tested.

The Browns currently lead the Cardinals 13-0 as they look to advance to 5-3 on the season. Can the thin wide receiver room step up in the second half of this Week 9 matchup against the Cardinals?

Browns lose Jedrick Wills Jr. vs. Cardinals with knee injury; questionable to return

Cleveland Browns LT Jedrick Wills Jr. left the game against the Cardinals with a knee injury. He is questionable to return.

Left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. left the Week 9 matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns during the second quarter. The lineman injured his knee on a pass play where he got tangled with a defender. He walked off the field under his own power and immediately headed to the medical tent before walking into the locker room a minute before halftime began. Wills is questionable to return.

Wills had a streaky performance today, dominating his opponent for most of the game. Earlier in the game, he was called for a holding penalty on a Deshaun Watson scramble that caused the drive to stall. Hopefully, he can return after halftime.

The Browns have replaced Wills with backup swing tackle James Hudson III. Hudson is a stalwart backup and the offense should have no problem against the Cardinals with him playing. The Browns marched down the field to kick a field goal in Hudson’s only drive. The team is currently leading the Cardinals 13-0.

UPDATE: Wills is back on the field for the Browns.

A football off of a defender’s helmet goes in the Browns’ favor this week

The Browns now have a two score lead!

Quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receiver Amari Cooper are in full sync. After connecting on a massive 59-yard gain in the first quarter, the two link up again for a touchdown. Last week, a throw off of a defender’s helmet did not go in the favor of the Cleveland Browns. This week it did against the Arizona Cardinals.

This drive came off the heels of a Denzel Ward interception that flipped the field. The Browns then managed to run the football all the way down the field on the back of veteran Kareem Hunt. The Browns now sit with a 10-0 lead over the 1-7 Cardinals.

It has been up-and-down for Watson thus far in his return to the field after dealing with a shoulder injury. However, the Browns have not turned the ball over, and with this defense, they are a hard team to beat if they do not beat themselves.

Can they get to 5-3?
