Arden Walker attempting to sway five-star WR Ryan Wingo to Boulder

Arden Walker is attempting to sway one of the nation’s top 2024 WRs to Colorado

Coaches are not the only people who play a major role in helping college programs land top high school recruits. Current student-athletes, too, can have a similarly large impact, especially in today’s age of social media.

After two seasons at Missouri, former Cherry Creek High School DL Arden Walker joined his home-state CU Buffs this offseason and is now attempting to sway one of the nation’s top 2024 recruits, five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo, to Boulder.

Walker tagged Wingo in a tweet on Thursday and wrote “lemme holla at you… I think you’ll like it here.” Wingo liked the tweet but did not respond, at least publically.

Wingo hails from St. Louis, Missouri, so it’s possible that the two had a prior relationship while Walker was with the Tigers.

Both Colorado and Jackson State offered Wingo last summer and the No. 7 ranked 2024 prospect (per 247Sports) visited with the Buffs in January.

Late last month, Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports gave Wingo a crystal ball prediction to commit to Texas, however.

Arden Walker talks experience at Missouri, coming home to Colorado

Arden Walker talked about what he learned at Missouri and Colorado’s new mentality under Deion Sanders

Former Missouri EDGE Arden Walker announced his commitment to Colorado on Tuesday morning, becoming the second SEC transfer at his position to commit to the Buffaloes in the last 24 hours.

But for Walker, his transferring to Boulder is more than just your run-of-the-mill portal move, rather it’s a homecoming of sorts for the Buffs legacy and Cherry Creek High School product. In an interview with BuffStampede’s Adam Munsterteiger, Walker said that “Of course, I have been around CU football forever.”

Arden’s father, Arthur, was a defensive lineman for the Buffaloes in the late 1980s during Colorado’s reign as one of the best teams in college football.

The younger Arden will now join his father’s former team following a two-year stint in the SEC (h/t BuffStampede):

“It was an adjustment coming in as an 18 year old college student, just learning the speed of the game in the SEC,” said Walker, recapping his time at Missouri. “I embraced my role and adjusted. I am still molding myself into the player I can be, but in those two years, I started to learn what I am capable of.”

As for how he feels about the new mentality at Colorado now that Deion Sanders is in charge, Walker was impressed (h/t BuffStampede):

“It is more of a professional setting going on up there now. It felt like it was real serious. I like that. That is how I am with my mindset, so I think that just fits who I am.”

Walker is another transfer pickup for the Buffs in Sanders’ effort to reshape the roster, and he’ll head home to Colorado with three seasons of college eligibility remaining.

Two SEC transfer EDGE rushers commit to Colorado in span of 24 hours

Colorado picked up a pair of SEC transfer EDGE rushers, including former Cherry Creek star Arden Walker

While they’re still firmly (for now) in the Pac-12, the Buffaloes are loading up with SEC talent, especially on the defensive line.

CU gained a commitment from former Ole Miss EDGE JJ Hawkins on Monday evening and not even 24 hours later, Missouri transfer Arden Walker, a Colorado native who played at Cherry Creek High School, joined the herd on Tuesday morning.

Both Hawkins and Walker played somewhat sparingly last season as redshirt freshmen. The former made one tackle in four games played for the Rebels while Walker saw action in 12 games, including a start in the Tigers’ regular season finale, and recorded six tackles on the year.

Walker was a two-time state champion at Cherry Creek who signed with Missouri over UCLA and Colorado back in 2020. His father, Arthur, played for the Buffs in the late 1980s and was an All-Big Eight defensive lineman.

Other former SEC players to join the Buffs’ D-line/EDGE room this offseason include Jordan Domineck (Arkansas) and Amari McNeill (Tennessee).
