Kentucky is down three spots in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll

Kentucky falls three spots in the AP Top 25 poll after losing to Vanderbilt.

Kentucky basketball had a tough weekend. They took a second straight loss in ugly fashion at Vanderbilt, 74 – 69 while turning the ball over 17 times. It was a sloppy performance that dropped the Cats three spots in the newest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Wildcats come in this week at number 12, down from number 9 last week. That matches their ranking in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. They are the fifth highest ranked team from the SEC.

The Auburn Tigers lead the way once again in both the SEC and overall. The Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators both are also in the top five. A total ten teams from the conference are ranked this week. Two more received votes.

The Wildcats close out January with a matchup agains the Tennessee Volunteers, who are ranked in the top ten. Then they’ll take on former coach John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Texas A&M basketball team stays up in the AP Top 25 Poll after going 1-1 in Week 12

After going 1-1 for the second consecutive week, Texas A&M (15-5, 4-3 SEC) is 2.5 games behind in the SEC, sitting in fifth place.

Week 12 was a stressful week for fans and the Aggie basketball team. Both games played were decided by one point and the winning team took their first lead of the game in the final seconds.

A&M went on the road against Ole Miss and in what felt like a football game they clawed their way back in the second half winning the game on a Manny Obaseki three-point shot. Unfortunately, against Texas they let a 22-point lead slip away with the Longhorns hitting a clutch layup to win the second match-up of the Lone Star Showdown.

Movement in the pool was minimal in the top 10 but Purdue captured the No. 10 spot while Kentucky fell to No.12. One of the biggest jumps came from St. Johns who went up five spots to No. 14. The Aggies didn’t look that impressive in the two games they played, but stayed at No. 13.

Did Texas A&M Basketball drop in the AP Top 25 Poll after going 1-1 in Week 11?

The Texas A&M basketball team drops two spots into the AP Top 25 Poll after going 1-1 in Week 11

Texas A&M (14-4, 3-2 SEC) went 1-1 in week 11 after losing to a top ten Kentucky team on the road and home win to a struggling LSU Tigers team.

The Aggies started off week 11 on a horrible note against the Wildcats in a loud and spirited crowd at Rupp Arena. They got beat at all three levels and could not find their footing losing 81-69. A&M bounced back at home where they beat LSU at Reed Arena in Wade Taylor IV’s return after missing three games. The win put them in the win column and moved them above the .500 mark in SEC play with a 3-2 record.

There were minimal big jumps in the polls after this week, but there was a lot of shuffling. Outside of Auburn remaining on top, the No. 2 through No. 25 spots saw a lot of movement.

Purdue is inching back into the top ten moving up 6 spots to No. 11 making the Aggie win that much better. As for A&M, they fell another two spots to No. 13 after going 1-1 and having issues scoring with horrible free-throw shooting.

The Texas A&M basketball team drops a spot into the AP Top 25 Poll after going 1-1 in Week 10

Texas A&M (13-3, 2-1 SEC) went 1-1 in week 10 after beating Oklahoma on the road and home loss to top-ranked Alabama.

The Aggies spent most of week 10 playing from behind, struggling early in both games to get their offense set with Wade Taylor IV out with an injury. As a result, they mounted an exciting comeback to beat Oklahoma, but poor shooting against Alabama saw them fall by six points, snapping their nine-game winning streak.

For the first time this season, Tennessee fell out of the top five, dropping to No. 6, cementing Auburn as the new No. 1 after week 10. The biggest move this week was Georgia entering the top 25 at No. 23. The Aggies fell out of the top ten dropping one spot to No. 11.

Wisconsin returns to AP Poll Top 25 after wins over Rutgers, Minnesota

Wisconsin returns to AP Poll Top 25 after wins over Rutgers, Minnesota

Wisconsin basketball (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten) landed at No. 24 in the latest AP Poll Top 25 on Monday.

Wisconsin returns to the hierarchy for the first time since Dec. 9’s installment — when Greg Gard’s group held the No. 20 position. Recent wins over Butler (Dec. 14), Detroit Mercy (Dec. 22), Iowa (Jan. 3), Rutgers (Jan. 6) and Minnesota (Jan. 10) have propelled UW back into the top 25.

Wisconsin earned 132 votes to move up 13 total spots from its ‘receiving votes’ position in last week’s edition. The team’s recent defensive stands, including a 75-63 win over the Scarlet Knights and an 80-59 win vs. the Golden Gophers, have appeared to convince voters that it belongs alongside the other top teams in the sport.

The Badgers are sixth among Big Ten teams, ranked behind only Michigan State (No. 12), Oregon (No. 13), Purdue (No. 17), Illinois (No. 19) and Michigan (No. 20).

Auburn (15-1) now holds the top spot after Tennessee’s Jan. 7 loss to No. 5 Florida. The Tigers are followed by Iowa State (14-1), Auburn (15-1), Iowa State (12-1), Duke (14-2), Alabama (14-2) and the aforementioned Gators.

The rest of the top 10 is Tennessee (15-1), Marquette (14-2), Kentucky (13-3), Kansas (12-3) and Houston (12-3).

Wisconsin’s three losses now look even more explainable. The AP has Marquette, Illinois and Michigan inside the top 25, Marquette even in the top 10.

The Badgers will look to build on their current five-game win streak when Ohio State visits Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday. UW will then travel West to play both USC (10-6) and UCLA (11-5), looking to rise in both the conference and national standings.

Where did Texas A&M Basketball land in the AP Top 25 Poll after blowout win over Texas?

The Texas A&M basketball team leaps into the AP Top 25 Poll after big win over the Texas Longhorns

Texas A&M (12-2) started SEC play with a bang after beating the Texas Longhorns 80-60 at Reed Arena to take the first game in the Lone Star Showdown.

The first Lone Star Showdown on the basketball court since Texas joined the SEC was one to remember for Aggie fans. After an extremely close first half, during which fouls put A&M’s two top scores on the bench, the floodgates opened in the second half.

A&M went on to outscore the Longhorns 43-23 dominating at the rim and played elite defense in front of a deafening crowd at Reed Arena. The college basketball world took notice, and the Maroon & White are starting to be in conversation to compete for a SEC title.

Outside of the top 5, the rankings had a lot of movement, and this should be expected over the next few weeks as the SEC starts to beat up on each other creating conference parity in the top 25.

Did Texas A&M basketball make a move in the AP Top 25 Poll after Week 8?

Texas A&M extends their win streak to six for a 11-2 record and maintains their No. 13 ranking

Texas A&M (11-2) played another tune-up game before getting ready for SEC play, beating Abilene Christian 92-54 at Reed Arena.

Since the season started, the Aggies have improved across the board and now have some good momentum leading into the second half of the schedule. They are getting solid production from their big men and are shooting much better as a team. A&M still needs to see improvement at the free-throw line where they are shooting under 70% and with the number of fouls they draw, they need to be in the 80% range.

Due to the nature of the scheduling, most teams either did not play or had Quad 3/4 games that would not move the needle much. The biggest drop was Ole Miss dropping eight spots to No. 24 after losing to Memphis. Texas A&M held their No. 13 ranking after extending their winning streak to six beating ACU.

Did Texas A&M basketball make a move in the AP Top 25 Poll after Week 7?

Texas A&M moves to 10-2 on the season but they drop a spot in the top 25 rankings

Texas A&M (10-2) played their first game without Wade Taylor IV and after a slow start, they ran away from the Houston Christian in a blowout 77-45 win last week.

It’s safe to say Coach Buzz Williams was not overly pleased with how his team played against a team they should have probably beaten by more. There were some markers that the Aggies did not hit especially in the first half. They could not get to the free-throw line early and seemed more like they were going through the motions. He got it corrected after halftime, but it was still concerning to see.

There was not a lot of movement in the top ten, but with Kentucky losing by 20 to Ohio State they dropped six spots to No. 10. Another surprise is Purdue that barely maintained their top 25 ranking dropping to No. 21 after the loss to Auburn. The Aggies only had one game against a Quad 4 team and ended up dropping one spot to No.13.

Below is the most recent AP Top 25 Poll after Week 7:

Tennessee, Auburn, and Iowa State held on the top three spots with Marquette falling out of the top five down to No. 9. The Aggies are now on a five-game winning streak, and leaped five spots to No. 12 and are one of eight SEC teams in the Top 25

Texas A&M is playing a tough non-conference and keeps coming out on top with an 8-2 record riding a 4-game winning streak.

They defeated Wake Forest 57-54 for a Quad 3/4 win and ground out a victory against Texas Tech for a Quad 1 win. The Aggies are only going to get better and if they push their shooting percentage over 42%, the sky is the limit for this team.

Kansas fell out of the No. 1 spot with a loss to Missouri and squeaked by Gonzaga, landing in the No. 10. Clemson made the biggest jump going up 29 spots from unranked to No. 16. The Aggies’ 2-0 week also gave them a bounce moving up six spots to No. 18 in the rankings.
