Did Texas A&M basketball move up in the AP Top 25 Poll after Week 2?

Texas A&M basketball stays in the top 25 after going 2-0 highlighted by a 14-point win over Ohio State in Week 2

It’s still early but if head coach Buzz Williams continues to have his team score in the high 80s per game, they will be a tough team for anyone down the stretch. Texas A&M (3-1) is on a three-game winning streak and looking better each time out.

Even with going 2-0 and beating both teams by double digits A&M remains in the No. 23 spot. It is fair because they played Lamar then their win over Ohio State was impressive, but it knocked the Buckeyes out of this week’s rankings. They also did not shoot the ball particularly well and had more made free throws than made shots.

Kansas remained in the top spot, with Alabama falling to No. 8 and Arizona had the biggest drop down 9 to No. 17. The Aggies’ win over Ohio State knocked the Buckeyes out of the top 25 and A&M still ranked No. 23 for the second consecutive week.

Below is the most recent AP Top 25 Poll after Week 2:

  1. Kansas 4-0
  2. UConn 3-0
  3. Gonzaga 3-0
  4. Auburn 3-0
  5. Iowa State 2-0
  6. Purdue 4-0
  7. Houston 2-1
  8. Alabama 3-1
  9. Kentucky 3-0
  10. North Carolina 2-1
  11. Tennessee 4-0
  12. Duke 3-1
  13. Baylor 3-1
  14. Creighton 4-0
  15. Marquette 4-0
  16. Indiana 3-0

Did Texas A&M rise in the latest AP Top 25 poll after defeating New Mexico State?

Texas A&M stays at No. 15 in the newest AP Top 25 rankings

Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) did what they had to do against a lesser opponent on Saturday night, defeating New Mexico State 38-3 in front of over 105,000 Aggies inside Kyle Field.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed started his second consecutive game, as Conner Weigman’s future with the program is now in flux heading into the offseason. Needing to show improvement as a passer, Reed competed 20/31 for 286 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another score before hitting the bench.

However, A&M’s running game now lacks substantial depth, with Amari Daniels and EJ Smith as the only scholarship backs left on the active roster after Le’Veon Moss’s season-ending injury. Daniels, who left the game after his 71-yard touchdown run, will be the lead back against Auburn and Texas, While Smith finished the game with 60 rushing yards.

Defensively, A&M’s run defense allowed 122 yards on the ground but tackled much better than the unit’s performance against South Carolina. Overall, head coach Mike Elko was satisfied with his team’s business handling.

Around the rest of the college football landscape, top-ranked Oregon escaped Wisconsin with a 16-13 win. In contrast, Georgia’s win over Tennessee has pushed the Volunteers down the SEC standings, as Texas A&M and the Texas Longhorns are now tied for first in the conference.

After moving up one spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll, Texas A&M remained at No. 15 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

Within the newest AP Top 25 poll, here are the changes ahead of Week 13:

  1. Oregon (11-0)
  2. Ohio State (9-1)
  3. Texas (9-1)
  4. Penn State (9-1)
  5. Indiana (10-0)

Notre Dame up two spots in AP Top 25 after rolling against Virginia

Notre Dame moves up two spots in the AP Top 25 poll.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have moved up in the AP Top 25 poll after beating the Virginia Cavaliers 35-14 on Saturday.

That’s the highest the Irish have been since being No. 5 earlier this season.

Moving up two spots in the poll should help the Irish make a stronger case for the College Football Playoff.

The top five remain the same: Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State and Indiana.

With the Irish at No. 6, the rest of the top 10 shakes out as follows: Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Georgia moved up three spots after being Tennessee and the Volunteers fell four spots after the loss.

Other big movers included BYU, South Carolina, Tulane, and Washington State. BYU dropped seven spots after falling to Kansas, while South Carolina gained four sports after beating Missouri. Tulane gained five spots after shutting out Navy 35-0, and Washington State fell six spots after losing to New Mexico 38-35.

Four Big Ten teams included in latest AP Top 25 Poll after Week 10

Four Big Ten teams included in latest AP Top 25 Poll after Week 10

The Wisconsin Badgers (5-4, 3-3 in Big Ten) are unranked heading into Week 11, which comes as no surprise. The team lost to Iowa 42-10 on the road Saturday — keeping it far from AP Poll consideration.

The Badgers have dropped back-to-back games after a three-game win streak to open the month of October. Wisconsin was also left out of the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, which is also not a surprise as they’ll likely remain unranked for the rest of the year.

The top five of the AP Poll was shaken up slightly after Week 10, with Oregon staying at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 2. The rest of the top five is Ohio State (No. 3), Miami-FL (No. 4) and Texas (No. 5), all of whom moved up one spot.

The Big Ten teams in the AP Poll top 25 include the aforementioned Ducks and Buckeyes and then Penn State (No. 6) and Indiana at No. 8.

Wisconsin will be off in Week 11 before they’ll welcome Oregon to Camp Randall Stadium on Nov. 16.

How far did Texas A&M fall in the newest AP Top 25 Poll?

Texas A&M as dropped five spots in the newest AP Poll after losing to South Carolina

Texas A&M (7-2, 5-1 SEC) is no longer undefeated in SEC play. However, the Aggies still have plenty of goals to accomplish heading into the bye week after falling to South Carolina 44-20 on Saturday night.

Looking lifeless in the second half, Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed had his moments, but running back Le’Veon Moss’s first-half knee injury looked too much to overcome mid-game.

At the same time, the Aggie defense missed 25 tackles on the night, leading to nearly 300 yards on the ground for the Gamecocks. Entering the bye week, head coach Mike Elko and his staff must fix the issues that plagued the Aggies throughout the night, even though South Carolina is much more physical than the final three teams on Texas A&M schedule.

Around the rest of the country, Clemson’s CFB Playoff dreams may have been dashed after falling to Louisville while Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee all took care of business in Week 10.

After falling to the Gamecocks, Texas A&M, who entered Week 10 at No. 10 in the AP Top 25 Poll, dropped five spots to No. 15. What’s confusing is that LSU, coming off a bye week, rose to No. 14 even though the Aggies defeated the Tigers 38-23 in Week 9.

Here is the newest AP Top 25 Poll after Week 10:

  1. Oregon (9-0)
  2. Georgia (7-1)
  3. Ohio State (7-1)
  4. Miami (FL) (9-0)
  5. Texas (7-1)
  6. Penn State (7-1)
  7. Tennessee (7-1)
  8. Indiana (9-0)
  9. BYU (8-0)
  10. Notre Dame (7-1)
  11. Alabama (6-2)
  12. Boise State (7-1)
  13. SMU (8-1)
  14. LSU (6-2)
  15. Texas A&M (7-2)
  16. Ole Miss (7-2)
  17. Iowa State (7-1)
  18. Army (8-0)
  19. Clemson (6-2)
  20. Washington State (7-1)
  21. Colorado (6-2)
  22. Kansas State (7-2)
  23. Pittsburgh (7-1)
  24. Vanderbilt (6-3)
  25. Louisville (6-3)

Notre Dame slides in AP Top 25 poll despite not playing

Notre Dame remains in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 Poll despite bye-week slide.

Usually, you have to lose to fall in the AP Top 25. But sometimes you can slide while you’re on a bye, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish experienced this week.

The good news is that slide is only two spots, from No. 8 to No. 10. And yes, this is how it works sometimes — a team can benefit or suffer from the results of other games, including upsets, while on a week off.

It still must be a bit frustrating for an Irish squad that has playoff aspirations, but sometimes you get caught as collateral damage in the fallout from upsets.

A minor upset loss at home to Ohio State sent Penn State falling three spots, but Indiana handling Michigan State also affected Notre Dame. The Hoosiers jumped five spots.

Pittsburgh falling to SMU has really shaken up the poll as the Mustangs jumped seven spots to No. 13 and Pitt fell five spots to No. 23. Other big movers included Iowa State falling six spots to No. 17 after losing to Texas Tech and Texas A&M falling five spots to No. 15 after a bad second half against South Carolina.

Kansas State slid five spots to No. 22 after losing to Houston and Clemson’s loss to Louisville at home caused the Tigers to drop eight spots to No. 19.

Oregon retains the top spot, and the rest of the top five is Georgia, Ohio State, Miami (Florida) and Texas. Those first two teams didn’t move from last week, while the other three are all up one.

Penn State is now No. 6, with Tennessee, Indiana, BYU and Notre Dame rounding out the top 10.

Notre Dame more successful at MetLife Stadium than NFL tenants in 2024

That’s embarrassing.

Notre Dame absolutely crushed Navy, 51-14, in the teams’ latest meeting at MetLife Stadium. The win was impressive enough that the Irish moved up to No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Those two things on their own would make for an impressive weekend for any team.

How and where this game unfolded painted a sad picture for the New York Giants and New York Jets, the two NFL tenants at MetLife Stadium. Both teams are either at or tied for the bottom of their respective divisions, and it shows in the fact that neither team has given their fans much to cheer about at home this season.

By scoring seven touchdowns in defeating the Midshipmen, the Irish surpassed the combined total of touchdowns the Giants and Jets have scored at MetLife Stadium so far this season by one. With both teams on the road this week, that stat will hold going into November:

Needless to say, times are tough for NFL fans in New York. That’s not the Irish’s problem though.

How much did Texas A&M rise in the newest AP Top 25 Poll after Week 9?

Texas A&M deservedily rises to No. 10 in the newest AP Top 25 Poll

Texas A&M (7-1, 5-0 SEC) earned a statement win over the LSU Tigers in primetime in front of over 108,000 in Kyle Field, as the Aggies officially look like a College Football Playoff contender while staying in sole possession of first place in the SEC standings.

Behind the insertion of backup quarterback Marcel Reed, who ran for three touchdowns and led the Aggies to five consecutive scoring drives in the second half, Texas A&M’s rushing attack continues to break down defenses late.

However, second-half defensive adjustments were even more impressive, especially in the secondary after cornerback BJ Mayes recorded the first of his two interceptions on the night, leading to Reed’s first touchdown that started the Aggies’ 31-6  second-half run.

While the Aggies left Kyle Field elated after what looked like a season-defining win, there’s still plenty to fix, as head coach Mike Elko noted during the post-game press conference.

Texas ‘ close win over Vanderbilt was unimpressive around the rest of the country, including the SEC, while Ohio State avoided a home loss to Nebraska in the early afternoon window.

Several top teams were on their bye weeks, while LSU was the only top-10-ranked team to lose on Saturday.

In the latest AP Top 25 Poll, Texas A&M moved four spots to No. 10. Here are the rest of the updated rankings:

Notre Dame jumps four spots and is back in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 poll

(This story was updated to correct a misspelling/typo.)

Notre Dame’s destruction of Navy has given the Fighting Irish a boost in the AP Top 25 poll. The Irish jump from No. 12 to No. 8.

Navy falls out of the top 25, although the Midshipmen did receive votes.

The top 10 is now Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami (Florida), Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, BYU and Texas A&M.

Big movers other than the Irish include Texas A&M after it beat LSU — which falls eight spots to No. 16 — Illinois (down four spots to No. 24 after being blown out by Oregon) and Missouri (down four spots after being shutout in a blow out by No. 14 Alabama).

Wisconsin still unranked, five Big Ten teams included in latest AP Top 25 Poll

Wisconsin still unranked, five Big Ten teams included in latest AP Top 25 Poll

The Wisconsin Badgers (5-2, 3-1 in Big Ten) are still unranked heading into Week 9. They were unable to crack the top 25 of the latest AP Poll following their third win in a row, taking down Northwestern 23-3 on the road Saturday.

The Badgers have had quite the resurgence over the last three weeks, outscoring their opponents 117-16 during their three-game winning streak. Wisconsin was also left out of the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after the win over the Wildcats, failing to garner any votes from the coaches.

The top five of the AP Poll was shaken up after Week 8, with Oregon taking over at No. 1. Following their win over Texas, Georgia moved up three spots to No. 2.  Then, Penn State (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 4) and Texas (No. 5) completed the top five.

The Big Ten teams in the AP Poll top 25 include Oregon at No. 1, Penn State at No. 3, Ohio State at No. 4, Indiana at No. 13, Illinois at No. 20, while Michigan (No. 24 last week), fell out of the poll.

Wisconsin will look to pull off the upset over No. 3 Penn State at home next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
