Ohio State basketball breaks into the top 25 in both major polls

Look who’s ranked! #GoBucks

After a successful trip to the Hawaiian islands to take part in the Maui Invitational, the Ohio State basketball team has broken into both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll as well as the AP Top 25.

The Buckeyes have an overall record of 5-1, and that includes a 2-1 trip in Maui that resulted in the Buckeyes manhandling Cincinnati and then upsetting a ranked Texas Tech team. The lone loss came to another ranked San Diego State team in the first game of the tournament.

Still, it was a good trip all things considered and it sure looked like Ohio State was starting to figure out a bit of an identity and start to understand some roles, rotations, and effort.

And for a parting gift from the island, Ohio State is now ranked No. 25 in both major polls. It might barely be ranked, but that’s better than the Buckeyes started out the season. Even more interesting is that some of the analytics and metrics like what the team is doing as evidenced by what the ESPN BPI has for OSU’s final record in its game-by-game matchup predictions.

The top ten of the USA TODAY Coaches Poll has Houston at No. 1, followed by Texas (2), Virginia (3), Arizona (4), Purdue (5), Connecticut (6), Creighton (7), Indiana (8), Kansas (9), and Baylor (10).

The top ten of the AP Poll looks similar with Houston again at No. 1, followed by Texas (2), Virginia (3), Arizona (4), Purdue (5), Baylor (6), Creighton (7), Connecticut (8), Kansas (9), and Indiana (10).

Ohio State will have a huge challenge up next when it travels to Cameron Indoor to take on the Duke Blue Devils in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday.

Preseason AP college basketball poll is out. Where is Ohio State?

Do you think this ranking is about right or are the Buckeyes being overlooked a bit?

You know that college basketball season is just around the corner when the teams and conferences have their media days and when the official preseason polls come out. Well, check, and check.

Not only did Ohio State have its media day a few weeks ago, but the Big Ten got the gang together to hold the annual conference media days for both the men’s and women’s programs in Indy a couple of weeks ago as well. Then, early this week, the Associated Press released its preseason college basketball poll Monday and you might be a bit underwhelmed and disappointed with where the national media has the Buckeyes before all the fun gets started.

So where exactly did the media peg OSU in the preseason? How about just inside the top 20 at No. 17? That’s not exactly where most had Ohio State in many of the early forecasts and mid-summer look ahead to the season, but the loss of Duane Washington to the NBA process seems to have changed a lot of folks’ minds nationally.

So how about the rest of the AP Top 25?

Ohio State continues to drop in AP Top 25 Poll after fourth straight loss

How far did Ohio State fall in the final AP Poll before post-season play begins? The latest is out. See were the Buckeyes ended up.

The Ohio State basketball team limped across the regular-season finish line with another disappointing loss, its fourth in a row. There is no shame in losing to highly ranked opponents, it just stings a little more knowing the game could’ve been won.

The Buckeyes have to close out games if they want to make any kind of run in the Big Ten or NCAA tournaments. It’s pretty much all good teams from here on out. The lack of being able to keep a lead late in the game has caused OSU to fall in the AP Top 25 Poll once again, this time to No. 9.

The Buckeyes will look to get off the snide when they play the first round of the Big Ten tournament against the winner of the Minnesota and Northwestern game. Both the Gophers and the Wildcats bested the Bucks earlier in the season.

Here’s a look at the AP top 10 at end of the regular season: Gonzaga (1), Baylor (2), Illinois (3), Michigan (4), Iowa (5), Alabama (6), Houston (7), Arkansas (8), Ohio State (9), West Virginia (10).

How far did Ohio State fall in latest AP Top 25 Poll

After three straight losses, where did Ohio State land in the latest release of the college basketball AP Top 25 poll?

Did the Ohio State basketball team peak too soon? It’s kind of feeling that way after two more losses this week at the hands of Michigan State and No. 9 Iowa.

The Buckeyes have looked somewhat lackadaisical in the last two matchups after a hard-fought battle against No. 3 Michigan. After OSU lost to the Wolverines, the AP voters kept the Bucks at No. 4 in the country, but after dropping three in a row that’s no longer the case as Ohio State is now ranked No. 7 falling three spots in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

The silver lining in all of this is that the Buckeyes still have one more regular-season game before heading into the Big Ten conference tournament. However, that last game is against No. 4 Illinois. Ohio State could very well go into the postseason on a four-game losing streak.

Here’s a look at how the AP top 10 shakes out: Gonzaga (1), Michigan (2), Baylor (3), Illinois (4), Iowa (5), West Virginia (6), Ohio State (7), Alabama (8), Houston (9), Villanova (10).

How does Ohio State’s loss to Michigan impact the Buckeyes ranking in the AP Poll?

The latest AP College Basketball Poll has been released. Where did Ohio State fall after the loss to Michigan on Sunday?

[jwplayer MvxWhXZh]

The Ohio State and Michigan basketball teams gave us an instant classic yesterday in Value City Arena. And while the outcome wasn’t exactly what Buckeye fans were hoping for, Chris Holtman’s squad made a statement that they can play with anyone in the country.

As a result of such a back and forth game which saw 17 ties and 11 lead changes, The Associated Press kept OSU ranked No. 4 in the nation in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

Both teams shot the ball extremely well, but Ohio State didn’t have an answer for the Wolverine’s freshman center, 7-foot, 2-inch Hunter Dickenson, who poured in 22 points.

The loss snapped the Buckeye’s seven-game winning streak. They’ll look to get back on track when they head to East Lansing to take on Michigan State this coming Thursday.

Here’s a look at how the AP top 10 currently stands: Gonzaga (1), Baylor (2), Michigan (3), Ohio State (4), Illinois (5), Alabama (6), Oklahoma (7), Villanova (8), Iowa (9), West Virginia (10).

Ohio State holding steady in the Associated Press Top 25 poll

Ohio State continues its winning ways and stays locked in the top ten. The new AP poll reflects how good the Buckeyes have been.

Did anyone really see this coming? Maybe if Kaleb Wesson had returned to school for one more year. But really, did any of you see the 2020/2021 version of Ohio State basketball being this good?

I don’t think anyone, outside of the guys in the locker room at Value City Arena, thought this team could be where they sit currently. They lack size. They lack a true superstar (although E.J. Liddell may be turning into one). And yet, this team is clicking and playing a really fun brand of basketball. The most enjoyable part? They all seem to genuinely love playing for each other.

After another impressive week with wins over Maryland and Indiana, Ohio State remains at No. 4 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Buckeyes are sandwiched between two other Big Ten teams in No. 3 Michigan and No. 5 Illinois. News flash… The Big Ten is good y’all.

Here’s a look at how the AP top 10 stands this week: Gonzaga (1), Baylor (2), Michigan (3), Ohio State (4), Illinois (5), Houston (6), Virginia (7), Alabama (8), Oklahoma (9), Villanova (10).

The Bucks put on quite a show, shooting 44% from beyond the arc, and showed they can hold their own against teams that are bigger and longer. As a result, the polls are starting to look favorably towards Ohio State.

Despite not playing in a couple of weeks, Michigan was moved up to No. 3 after Villanova lost to a mediocre St. John’s team earlier in the week. Even though Michigan hasn’t been in action due to a pause in athletics from COVID-19 concerns, the Wolverines are still on top of the Big Ten standings.

Ohio State will have its chance to topple the conference leaders in about two weeks, but first the Buckeyes have to take care of business against Maryland tonight in College Park.

Ohio State basketball moves up two spots in Associated Press Top 25 poll

Ohio State basketball moving in the right direction with the pollsters. It moved up a couple of spots in the latest AP Top 25 poll.

The Ohio State basketball team is getting healthy at the right time. Former Ivy League player of the year, Seth Towns, has added a spark since being able to get on the floor and after sitting out four games from injury, and C.J. Walker made his presence felt at the point guard position this weekend.

The Buckeyes dropped a heartbreaker by letting one slip away at home against Purdue on Wednesday evening. OSU was in control most of the game, but couldn’t hold on at the end.

Memories have to be short in conference play as Ohio State then had to prepare for a tough road matchup in Madison against No. 10 Wisconsin. The Buckeyes were able to go into the Kohl Center and come out with an impressive win over the Badgers.

In the latest release, Ohio State has moved all the way up into the top 15 of the Associated Press College Basketball Top 25 poll.

The Ohio State basketball team is quietly putting together a pretty impressive season, and the pollsters are starting to notice. After starting the season with some peaks and valleys, the Buckeyes have won three-straight in impressive fashion, two over ranked Rutgers and Illinois squads.

There’s still a lot of the season to go, but OSU has now put itself in fourth-place in arguably the best basketball conference in the country, and have an impressive 11-3 record with impressive out of conference victories over Notre Dame and UCLA, both away from home.

Because of that body of work, the Associated Press college basketball poll has moved Ohio State up six spots from the last release, all the way to No. 15.

Ohio State is on a move towards the top ten, but still has a ways to go. Right now that top ten consists of Gonzaga (1), Baylor (2), Villanova (3), Iowa (4), Texas (5), Tennessee (6), Michigan (7), Houston (8), Kansas (9), and Wisconsin (10).
