Ohio State basketball will start the season unranked in the AP Poll

In case you missed it, Ohio State will have to battle all the turnover this year and it looks like the AP voters know it. #GoBucks

As a reminder in the throws of football season, college basketball is just around the corner. In fact, the Associated Press preseason college basketball poll was released early this week and Ohio State will start the season in the “others receiving votes” category.

On the outside looking in, it makes some sense for voters to be underwhelmed about what Buckeye hoops can be this season. The program lost a ton of talent with Malaki Branham and E.J. Liddell heading off to the NBA and many others either transferring or graduating, so the turnover leaves a lot of unanswered questions. So, yeah — Ohio State will have to live off of proving a lot of people wrong this season.

And while OSU is not ranked, we can tell you that some of the usual suspects are highly ranked as you would expect. North Carolina will start the season at No. 1 followed by Gonzaga (2), Houston (3), Kentucky (4), Kansas (5), Baylor (6), Duke (7), UCLA (8), Creighton (9), and Arkansas (10), rounding out the top ten.

The Buckeyes will tip off the season vs. Robert Morris on November 7. They also play at Duke and against North Carolina early in the season, so get ready for some big games.

Ohio State hoops slides back in latest AP college basketball poll

How far did OSU drop in the latest AP College Basketball Poll? #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team is licking its wounds after getting outplayed by an Iowa Hawkeye team that seemed to be more interested and engaged in winning a Big Ten basketball game on Saturday. It was the lasting memory of a week that also had a win against Minnesota at home, and the voters in the AP Poll responded.

In fact, in the latest AP college basketball poll, the Buckeyes slid down a few spots to No. 22, dangerously close to dropping out of the rankings altogether. More than that, the loss dealt a major blow to OSU’s chances of winning the Big Ten regular-season and entering the Big Ten tournament as one of the top four seeds.

But back to the AP Poll. We also saw the Buckeyes drop a little in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, and we see some of the same teams up in the top ten as well. Gonzaga leads the way, followed by Arizona, Auburn, Purdue, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, Texas Tech, and Baylor rounding out the top ten.

Ohio State is next in action Monday night when it hosts the Indiana Hoosiers. Every game is important from here on out.

Latest AP basketball poll is out. Where does Ohio State check in at this time?

Where does Ohio State land this week? #GoBucks

Another week means another look at where Ohio State is in the major basketball polls. We’ve already seen what the voters had to say in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, and now it’s time to check in with the Associated Press.

OSU’s spot in the AP Poll is neither something to get excited about nor lament because the Buckeyes stayed at the same spot it was last week, right at No. 16.

Despite the Buckeyes looking fantastic against Maryland on Sunday, it wasn’t enough to sway the minds of any of the voters, mainly because the Terps have been far from fantastic themselves during Big Ten play. Add that to the Iowa game getting postponed, and well, there just wasn’t much available to swing Ohio State either way.

So what teams are still ahead of the Buckeyes in the top ten of the poll? Auburn remains at No. 1, followed by Gonzaga, Purdue, Arizona, Kentucky, Houston, Duke, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Baylor.

Ohio State will get a shot to improve its ranking and perception this week when it travels to Rutgers on Wednesday, then heads to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan Saturday.

Ohio State climbs makes modest climb in latest AP College Basketball Poll

Ohio State climbs modestly in AP College Basketball Poll. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team might be still trying to get back on the court after a COVID-19 pause, but it continues to climb in the polls. OSU moved up two spots in the USA TODAY Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll, and then also received a bump in the latest AP College Basketball Poll, moving from No. 14 to No. 13.

The Buckeyes have had to cancel three-straight games because of the lack of player availability as they try to get through COVID-19 protocols, but they still have the win over No. 1 Duke, and ranked wins over Seton Hall and Wisconsin on the resume already. That is apparently enough to impress the voters until Ohio State can crank things back up again.

Speaking of getting things back in motion, OSU released a statement that said it’s preparing to travel to Nebraska to play Sunday, so hopefully that all comes to pass.

The top ten ahead of Ohio State in the AP Poll are Baylor, Duke, Purdue, Gonzaga, UCLA, Kansas, USC, Iowa State, Arizona, and Michigan State.

Now, for the rest of the AP Top 25.

Ohio State basketball moves up a spot in AP Poll despite not playing a game last week

Ohio State hoops continues to climb in the AP Poll. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team is on a hiatus because of a flurry of COVID-19 positives, but that didn’t stop the voters of the Associated Press from moving the Buckeyes up a spot in the latest AP College Basketball Poll.

OSU cracked the top fifteen last week after beating a ranked Wisconsin team at home, and continued the climb this week, up to No. 14, even after having to cancel the game against Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic out in Las Vegas. Ohio State is now ranked No. 14 in the latest release of the poll.

OSU will continue to try to move up and crack the top ten when it can get back on the court. The next scheduled game is set for December 28 against the University of New Orleans.

The top ten of the latest AP Poll includes Baylor (1), Duke (2), Purdue (3), Gonzaga (4), UCLA (5), Arizona (6), Kansas (7), USC (8), Iowa State (9), and Alabama (10).

Ohio State basketball falls to No. 5 in latest AP Poll

The Ohio State basketball team fell to No. 5 in the latest release of the AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll.

It was a weekend to forget for Ohio State athletics.

First, the football team lost the Fiesta Bowl to Clemson in a truly bizarre and frustrating game that it probably should have won. Then, on Sunday, the Buckeye athletic program doubled down on despair when its men’s basketball team lost a bruising game to West Virginia.

The Buckeye hoops team has some of the most quality wins of any team in the nation to date, but it has now dropped two of its last four games. Twice it was on the doorstep of taking over as college basketball’s No. 1 team, and twice it fell on the way to the waiting room.

Because of that loss on Sunday, Ohio State fell from No. 2 to No. 5 in the latest AP Poll that was released Monday.

Gonzaga stayed at No. 1, followed by Duke (2), Kansas (3), and Oregon (4)  all just ahead of OSU. Baylor (6), Louisville (7), Auburn (8), Memphis (9), and Villanova (10) round out the top ten.

Ohio State basketball drops to No. 5 in latest AP poll

After losing on the road to Minnesota, the Ohio State basketball team fell to No. 5 in the latest AP Basketball poll.

It was all there for the taking, but Ohio State couldn’t take care of business on the road Sunday night against Minnesota. A win against a 4-5 Golden Gopher squad in “The Barn” would have likely vaulted the undefeated Buckeyes to the No. 1 spot, but instead, OSU lost and dropped down from No. 3 to No. 5 in the latest release of the AP College Basketball Poll.

Kansas took over the No. 1 spot, followed by Gonzaga (2), Louisville (3) and Duke (4) ahead of the Buckeyes. Kentucky (6), Maryland (7), Oregon (8), Virginia (9), and Baylor (10) round out the top ten.

The Big Ten has a total of five teams in the AP Top 25 with Michigan State and Michigan just inside the top 15, and Penn State making its first appearance at No. 23.

Ohio State will next be in action at home against Southeast Missouri State Tuesday before it prepares for a big one vs. Kentucky on Saturday.
