Giants blown out by Raiders, 30-6: Here’s how X reacted

The New York Giants were whooped by the Las Vegas Raiders, 30-6, in Week 9 and here’s how X, formerly known as Twitter, reacted.

After a week of major changes within the organization, the Las Vegas Raiders welcomed the New York Giants for their Week 9 matchup.

Somehow, with the Raiders coming into the game on a short week, with a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator and a rookie quarterback under center, the Giants were still underdogs coming into the game.

The game was never really close and the Giants were embarrassed again, which is becoming all too common this season.

To make matters worse, quarterback Daniel Jones left the game with a non-contact knee injury that may have sidelined him for an extended amount of time.

Here’s how X, formerly known as Twitter, reacted to the loss.

Giants reach new low with 30-6 drubbing at hands of Raiders

The New York Giants found a new rock bottom on Sunday in a 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders that saw Daniel Jones suffer another injury.

The New York Giants played their first-ever game in Nevada on Sunday afternoon when they faced off against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.

There were lots of storylines heading into the game as the Raiders were playing their first game under interim head coach Antonio Pierce and offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree and were starting a rookie (Aidan O’Connell) at quarterback.

The Giants finally had quarterback Daniel Jones under center again and had left tackle Andrew Thomas in the lineup for the first time since Week 1.

That did not last for very long, however. Jones injured his knee in the first quarter, leaving the Giants’ offense to sputter through another frustrating game.

By halftime, it was 24-0 and the rout was on.

The Giants fall to 2-7 on this forgettable season, which has officially reached ‘circling the drain’ status. The Giants did very few things right in this game and were outmatched and outclassed by a very average Raiders team under a makeshift coaching staff.

The Giants keep taking shots, but haven’t cashed in on any of them. The first two were Daniel Jones errant throws down field that fell incomplete. Then Daniel Jones left the game with a leg injury and Tommy DeVito came in for him. Late in the second quarter, DeVito took his first big shot. And Amik Robertson made him pay.

Robertson’s big interception and return gave the Raiders the ball at their own 40-yard line. And the Raiders wasted no time making the Giants pay for their mistake.

Aidan O’Connell dropped back and threw a pass that Jimmy Garoppolo could never. Tre Tucker streaked down field, O’Connell threw it up and Tucker went and got it. Laying out for the 50-yard catch.

Three plays later, the Raiders were in the end zone on a Josh Jacobs run. It was their third TD on the day, giving them 21 points — the first time the offense has scored 20 points in a game this season.

Watch: Jakobi Meyers runs for TD on opening drive of Antonio Pierce era

The Antonio Pierce era is off to a great start. After the Raiders’ defense stopped the Giants for a three-and-out, they drove 67 yards in six plays for an opening drive touchdown.

The biggest plays on the drive both went to Jakobi Meyers. The first was a 24-yard catch and run on a quick slant. That put the Raiders at the 25-yard-line. From there, Josh Jacobs ran out right for eight yards and then Meyers took the ball on the sweep for a 17-yard touchdown run.

Last week the Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels along with offensive. coordinator Mick Lombardi and benched QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The supposed offensive guru head coach presided over the second worst offense in the league.

Replacing McDaniels and Lombardi are linebackers coach Antonio Pierce and QB coach Bo Hardegree. Replacing Positive results on the first drive. Now we see if it can continue for the rest of this game and beyond.

Josh McDaniels reportedly didn’t appreciate Antonio Pierce bashing the Patriots during a speech

Josh McDaniels just couldn’t resist defending the Patriots at the worst possible time.

It hasn’t even been a week since the Las Vegas Raiders fired Josh McDaniels — a tenure full of embarrassment almost every week — and each new revelation somehow sparks more humiliation. The latest comes on the heels of a report from Fox NFL Sunday’s Jay Glazer.

According to Glazer, before the Raiders fired him, McDaniels held a team meeting where players were open about their issues with his coaching. Rather than speak for himself, McDaniels had now interim head coach Antonio Pierce talk on his behalf. A New York Giants legend, Pierce used New York’s run to a Super Bowl title over the New England Patriots in 2007 as a vital point of a motivational speech.

McDaniels apparently took great exception to this, telling Pierce to never talk about the Patriots like that. Talk about a lack of self-awareness.

I understand McDaniels likely has a special affinity for Bill Belichick and New England. After all, that is where he made his hay for years, primarily as an offensive coordinator. But when your players are venting out their frustrations, and a speech clearly resonates with them, that isn’t the time to talk about how any Patriots bashing bothers you. That’s one of those “inside thoughts” you keep to yourself, folks.

Another vintage McDaniels misstep, who seemingly couldn’t be more self-involved if he tried.

Giants vs. Raiders: 5 biggest storylines for Week 9

The New York Giants face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9. Here are the five biggest storylines to follow for this contest.

The New York Giants (2-5) head west to take on the Las Vegas Raiders (3-5) this Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

Here are five storylines we are following in Week 9.

Behind Enemy Lines: Week 9 Q&A with Raiders Wire

With a Week 9 matchup between the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders on tap, we go behind enemy lines for a chat with Raiders Wire.

The New York Giants (2-6) and Las Vegas Raiders (3-5) will square off on Sunday afternoon in a Week 9 matchup at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Giants opened the week as 3-point road underdogs but that spread has dipped to +1.5 points as of this writing.

With this matchup on tap, Giants Wire took the opportunity to hold a Q&A with Raiders Wire managing editor Marcus Mosher.

Raiders’ Antonio Pierce: Coaching against Giants ‘ain’t about me’

Antonio Pierce will make his NFL head coaching debut against the New York Giants on Sunday but wants his players to know it’s not about him.

Earlier this week, former New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce was named the interim head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. He previously served as the linebackers coach for the organization and was promoted when Josh McDaniels was fired.

Although Pierce’s pro days were spent on the East Coast, he is originally from California and says he was “born a Raider.” When asked about facing his former team this week, Pierce reiterated that this game isn’t about him.

“It’s not Antonio Pierce versus the New York Giants. (It’s the) Las Vegas Raiders versus the Giants, coming to our house,” he said. “A much-needed win for us. We’ve had two ugly losses. It’s time to change that. We’re in the second half of the season.

“It doesn’t matter what or who Antonio Pierce played for. It’s about the Las Vegas Raiders. Those players understand that. This is about them. It ain’t about me.”

Indeed, it isn’t about him, although the media enjoys creating a story where it can. This game is about the players on the field, and the Giants are facing a Raiders team that no one has seen yet.

Preparation can only be taken so far when there’s no film to help tailor plays. The best Brian Daboll & Co. can do is watch old Purdue film and see what Aidan O’Connell did there. But that was a different coach with a different line and different receivers. The comparison doesn’t really translate.

It’s not about Antonio Pierce, but it is about the decisions he makes. Let’s hope that Daboll is ready to counter whatever Pierce throws at the Giants this Sunday in Las Vegas.

Giants vs. Raiders: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 9

The New York Giants visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon in Week 9, and here are three reasons for optimism.

The New York Giants will head on the road in Week 9 to face the Las Vegas Raiders.

In a week where both teams have seen significant changes that could affect the game, the Raiders remain slight favorites over Big Blue.

The Giants will get quarterback Daniel Jones back this week after being fearful of passing the ball in the second half of last week’s game with Tommy DeVito at the helm.

The Giants will hope to take advantage of all the changes going on with the Raiders in a short week.

Here are three reasons for optimism ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Antonio Pierce on coaching vs. Giants: ‘Couldn’t write that up’

Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce will make his debut against the New York Giants in a scenario you “couldn’t write up.”

The New York Giants will face the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday afternoon in a game that just two days ago had few backstories.

But things have changed rapidly, as they can do in the NFL. The Raiders fired general manager Dave Ziegler and head Josh McDaniels after their Monday night loss to the Detroit Lions and replaced them with Champ Kelly and Antonio Pierce.

Yes, the same Antonio Pierce who was a staple on the Giants’ Super Bowl XLII championship team in 2007. Pierce played for the Giants from 2005-2009, serving as a defensive captain, and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2006.

Pierce was elevated from linebacker coach to interim head coach this week by the Raiders. He had been the team’s linebackers coach since the beginning of 2022. Before that, he served as a defensive assistant at his alma mater, Arizona State for four seasons.

Pierce’s first game comes ironically versus the Giants, the team for whom he had his greatest success as a player.

“How about that? Couldn’t write it up,” Pierce said at his introductory press conference.

“But it’s not Antonio Pierce versus the New York Giants. Las Vegas Raiders versus the Giants, coming to our house, a much-needed win for us. We’ve had two ugly losses. It’s time to change that.

“We’re in the second half of the season. It doesn’t matter what or who Antonio Pierce played for. It’s about the Las Vegas Raiders. Those players understand that. This is about them. It ain’t about me.”

Pierce was known for his leadership, tenacity and intelligence as a player, and hopes to pass that along to his players. He spoke about what led up to this moment. His promotion was a bit of a surprise, but he’s far from an overnight success.

“I’ve been fortunate. I played at a high level, went all the way back to my roots and coached at Long Beach Poly High School as a head coach there. I was at the New York Giants in 2017, then college for four years. I had opportunities to leave and go to other organizations. I decided not to,” he said.

“The short story, the matter of fact is I grew up in Compton, California. I was born a Raider. I was born with the Raiders rolling in the Coliseum in L.A. I was rolling with NWA, talking Straight Outta Compton, rocking Raider hats.

“So when the opportunity came to work with Josh and Pat Graham and Dave, I jumped on it. So that’s what set me up for this. I was born this way.”

There are very few people left in the Giants’ organization who were around when Pierce was in uniform but the ones that are here now are fully aware of who he is.

“Got a lot of respect for AP, again, I remember meeting with him down in his office, talking about Matt (free agent quarterback Matt Corral, who was working out at Long Beach) out in Cali and obviously know what he did here,” said Giants head coach Brian Daboll. “I’ve built a friendship with him along the way the last few years, but again our focus has got to be on the field, players and schemes and do the best job we can.”
