South Carolina blanks Auburn softball to even series

Auburn will get another chance to win the series tomorrow afternoon.

The Auburn Tigers (36-15, 12-8 SEC) fell 8-0 at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks (33-16, 8-12 SEC) on Saturday afternoon.

Auburn did not record a hit in the run-rule affair and only had two base runners during the contest. [autotag]Carlee McCondichie[/autotag] walked and[autotag]Bri Ellis[/autotag] was hit by a pitch.

The Gamecocks took a 1-0 lead on a throwing error in the 2nd inning and began to run away from the Tigers in the 4th inning. South Carolina’s Guilia Desiderio hit her first of two home runs in the game when she cranked a three-run blast to left field to extend South Carolina’s lead to 4-0 in the 4th.

South Carolina added four more runs in the 5th inning when Desiderio and Jordan Fabian each hit two-run homers. Desiderio’s second home run of the game was the final blow, which put the run rule into effect.

[autotag]Annabelle Wildra[/autotag] got the start for the Tigers and allowed four runs off of two hits, walked three batters, and struck out five in 3.2 innings in the circle.

Donnie Gobourne got the start for the Gamecocks, only walking one batter and striking out seven in five innings of action.

Auburn Softball drops second game of series to LSU

The loss sets up a winner-take-all game on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 21 Auburn Tigers (31-13, 8-6 SEC) dropped the second game of the series to the No. 13 LSU Tigers (34-9, 7-7 SEC) 3-2 this afternoon at Jane B. Moore Field.

“In these games, it always comes down to the small stuff,” said head coach [autotag]Mickey Dean[/autotag]. “The things that you don’t recognize like a leadoff walk or a bobble on relay all in one inning. That’s the difference in the game. We also had some base running miscues, so it is the little things. As long as our kids keep bringing the energy and keep playing hard, we’re going to be fine.”

[autotag]Shelby Lowe[/autotag] got the start for Auburn and allowed two runs off of two hits, walked no batters, and struck out five in four innings of work. [autotag]Annabelle Wildra[/autotag] provided three innings of relief and allowed one run off of three hits, walked one batter, and struck out three.

Sydney Berzon pitched the whole game for LSU and allowed two runs off of three hits, walked four batters, and struck out four in seven innings.

Auburn got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning when [autotag]Lindsey Garcia[/autotag] reached on an infield single that scored [autotag]Kenadie Cooper[/autotag].

LSU got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Georgia Clark hit a two-run homer over the left-field wall. The road Tigers added two more runs to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning when McKenzie Redoutey hit a two-run homer over the left field wall.

Garcia homered to left in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring Auburn within one, but that was all of the scoring.

The rubber match is set for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CST.

Auburn softball drops game two to Ole Miss

Auburn’s offense had no answer for Ole Miss’ Catelyn Riley in game two of the series.

The No. 19 Auburn Tigers (27-10, 5-3 SEC) fell 4-1 at the hands of the Ole Miss Rebels (21-15, 2-6 SEC) in the second game of the series.

“We need to hit our pitch,” said head coach [autotag]Mickey Dean[/autotag]. “We kept going after the pitcher’s pitch. Every time we got runners on, we kept going after that drop ball and hit it to their infielders. Too many easy plays for them. Credit to the Ole Miss pitcher, she threw well. We just need to have better at-bats tomorrow.”

[autotag]Annabelle Wildra [/autotag] got the start and ended up with the loss for Auburn. She pitched 4.2 innings and allowed four runs off of seven hits, one walk and struck out four batters. [autotag]Emmah Rolfe[/autotag] threw the last 2.1 innings and only allowed one hit, one walk and struck one batter out.

Catelyn Riley pitched the whole game for Ole Miss and allowed one run off of six hits, walked two batters, and struck out four.

Auburn loaded the bases with one out but did not score any runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers ended up stranding seven runners.

Paige Smith got the scoring started in the top of the second inning with a two-run homer to put the Rebels up. They never gave the lead back.

Auburn’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning when [autotag]Icess Tresvik[/autotag] tagged up on a fly ball to left field hit by [autotag]Aubrie Lisenby[/autotag].
