Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Angels (37-31) and Texas Rangers (41-24) clash Tuesday in game 2 of a 4-game AL West set in Arlington. First pitch at Globe Life Field is slated for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Angels vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: tied 2-2

The Angels hit 3 home runs for a 2nd straight game Monday as they defeated Texas 9-6 in 12 innings to open the series. Los Angeles is 7-1 over its last 8 games and now trails the division-leading Rangers by just 5 1/2 games.

The Rangers have lost 2 in a row and 4 of their last 5. But Texas should be glad to be on its home field: prior to Monday’s setback, the Rangers had won 8 of their last 9 at Globe Life Field.

Angels at Rangers projected starters

RHP Jaime Barria vs. LHP Cody Bradford

Barria (2-2, 1.85 ERA) makes his 4th start and 15th appearance. He has a 0.97 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 through 39 IP.

  • Was highly effective as a long man in the Halos’ bullpen, but he’s now making his 3rd straight appearance as a starter
  • Owns a 3.88 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 419 1/3 career IP

Bradford (0-1, 7.20 ERA) is expected to make his 3rd start. He has logged a 1.50 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 through 10 IP.

Angels at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, Angels 4

Moneyline

Texas is 5-2 over its last 7 games at home against Los Angeles.

Texas went 68-94 (.420) a year ago and has the look of a club that must be too far over its skis with its .631 win percentage. But analytic measures mostly back up the Rangers leading MLB in runs per game (6.25) while ranking 6th in runs allowed (4.00).

Bradford makes for a question mark for the home 9. The Angels are strong against southpaws (.785 OPS). But that mark comes alongside a fortunate .341 batting average on balls in play (BABIP).

The Ranger bullpen figures as better than its surface ERA of 4.41. The prognosis for the Angels and their 3.30 relief ERA swings the other way.

There is some fade lean on Barria, who has thus far gotten by with a .235 BABIP and a low 5.6% home runs/fly balls rate.

TAKE TEXAS (-130).

Run line/Against the spread

The Halos have played a lot of 1-run ball games. With the rookie Bradford on the bump for the Rangers, PASS on trying to get through with the multi-run victory.

Over/Under

No lean to either side of this figure, and plenty of uncertainty as to how pitching contributes on both sides. PASS.

Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Angels (36-31) and Texas Rangers (41-23) open up a 4-game set Monday at Globe Life Field. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Angels vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 2-1

The Angels have won 6 of their last 7 games and took 2 of 3 from the Seattle Mariners over the weekend, including a 9-4 victory Sunday. Los Angeles has pulled within 6 1/2 games of the division-leading Rangers, so this will be a big series.

The Rangers have dropped 3 of their last 4 outings, including a 7-3 loss at the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, but are still 14-6 over their last 20 games. Texas is also tough at home at 21-9 and has dominated the AL West at 14-5.

Angels at Rangers projected starters

LHP Tyler Anderson vs. RHP Dane Dunning

Anderson (3-1, 5.62 ERA) makes his 12th start of 2023. He has a 1.60 WHIP, 4.4 BB/9 and 5.9 K/9 in 57 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K vs. Chicago Cubs Tuesday
  • Last 5 starts vs. Rangers: 1-0, 2.51 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 22 K in 28 2/3 IP

Dunning (5-1, 2.52 ERA) makes his 7th start and 15th appearance. He has a 1.10 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 5.5 K/9 in 53 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 1 K vs. St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday
  • Last 5 starts vs. Angels: 1-1, 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 29 K in 28 1/3 IP

Angels at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 6, Angels 4

Moneyline

The Rangers are clicking. They had trouble containing the Tampa Bay Rays, but they’re getting enough pitching to go with their top-ranked offense at 6.37 runs/9. They put up 26 runs on the Angels in the last 2 meetings and are priced appropriately at -160.

I will PASS on that and look to the spread.

Run line/Against the spread

The Rangers have 6 wins in the last 10 games, and 5 of them were by 2 or more runs. They are 5-5 over the last 10 against the Angels, and all 5 wins were by 2 or more runs. Texas is great on the RL at 41-23 this season and 20-10 at home.

That’s enough for me to roll with RANGERS -1.5 (+120).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Neither of Monday’s starters has been very good of late. Anderson has allowed 10 ER in his last 2 starts, and Dunning allowed 7 ER in his last 2. LA is 5-5 O/U over the last 10, and Texas is 5-4-1.

The roof will be closed for this game so the 13-mph wind blowing in will have no effect. The Over is 4-0-1 in Anderson’s last 5 starts and is 3-0-1 in the Rangers’ last 4 against a lefty. The Over is 3-0-1 in Dunning’s last 4 home starts.

I’ll take the OVER 9.5 (-120).

Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Angels (24-14) and the Texas Rangers (15-19) clash Tuesday in the second game of a 3-game series at Globe Life Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Angels vs. Rangers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: The Angels lead the series 3-2.

Angels RHP Noah Syndergaard was anything but a superhero as he was spotted a 3-0 lead and couldn’t get out of the 1st inning Monday. The righty allowed 6 runs (4 earned) in 2/3 IP. The Angels battled back, but they ultimately fell 7-4.

The Rangers have won 2 contests in a row and scored 7 in each. OF Kole Calhoun is 7-for-17 (.412) with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs over his last 5 games.

Angels at Rangers projected starters

LHP Reid Detmers vs. LHP Taylor Hearn

Detmers (2-1, 3.77 ERA) had some extra rest for his 7th start. He has a 0.84 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 5.8 K/9 through 31 IP.

  • Had a historic outing in his last start with a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays last Tuesday. He allowed 1 walk and struck out 2 in 9 scoreless frames.
  • The 22-year-old top prospect for the Halos features a fastball (93 mph avg), slider, curveball and changeup.
  • Was shelled for 5 runs on 6 hits and a walk while fanning 5 in 3 1/3 innings at the Rangers April 15.

Hearn (2-2, 5.26 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.64 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 over 25 2/3 IP.

  • Has been solid in a couple of 5-inning outings in May, going 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 11 K but has lived dangerously with 3 walks in each.
  • The Angels got to him April 16 for 3 runs on 6 hits and a walk with 4 K over 3 2/3 innings.

Angels at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 5, Rangers 2

Money line

The Angels adapt to left-handed pitching as they’re hitting .246 against them and righties this season. The Rangers hit .224 against southpaws, which is 12 points higher than what they do against righties.

The Angels could opt to sit DH Shohei Ohtani and 1B Jared Walsh against Hearn. Ohtani is Wednesday’s scheduled starting pitcher. Surprising no one, OF Mike Trout is hitting .370 with 2 HR and 5 RBIs against left-handers this season.

I still like the ANGELS (-130) here, but wait until the lineup is released as the line is sure to move in your favor if one or both of those left-handed bats are out.

Run line/Against the spread

The Angels got off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning Monday and Thor couldn’t keep them in the game. They should get to Hearn early, and I like the ANGELS FIRST FIVE INNINGS (+100) as well as ANGELS -1.5 (+122).

Wait until closer to first pitch or at least the lineup is released to see if the odds improve. There is a prop bet I like, and that’s DETMERS UNDER 4.5 STRIKEOUTS (-170) as he has struck out 5 just once this season. While it was against the Rangers he has 2, 2, 4, 4, and 3 in the other 5 starts. Toss that in a parlay.

Over/Under

The Over is 4-0-2 in Angels’ last 6 road games vs. a left-handed starter. The Over is 5-0-2 in the last 7 between these 2 teams. Both teams have hit the Over in 2 out of their last 3 games, but I don’t trust either offense enough to combine for 9 runs. PASS.
