Over/Under

The Under is 6-0-1 in the Orioles’ last 7 overall. The Under is 15-6-3 in the last 24 series meetings in Baltimore.

Both clubs have faced weak pitching slates so far, which has overinflated their batting numbers. The Los Angeles HR number does not hold up to scrutiny (looking at other extra-base hits, exit velo, barrel percentage). The Angels own a .323 BABIP with runner in scoring position. And facing a right-handed pitcher puts them on the weaker side of their platoon splits.

The pitching here is solid: Ohtani overall, Rodriguez better than surface numbers show, and the Baltimore bullpen is quite good.

Detmers grades in the 34th percentile or worse in hard-hit rate, expected ERA, K%, exit velocity and chase rate according to Statcast while Wells grades in the 61st percentile or better in all of those metrics.

Also, Baltimore’s bullpen outranks L.A.’s in FIP (4.29-3.66), contact rate, swing-and-miss rates and home runs allowed per 9 innings (1.31-0.82), according to FanGraphs.
