The Dodgers (-400) will cost 4 times the potential return, which is way too much risk for not enough reward … on either a standalone bet or as part of a multi-leg parlay.

Over time, you cannot play such heavy favorites and expect to be ahead. It’s just a poor long-term betting strategy.

Run line/Against the spread

The DODGERS -1.5 (-175) are worth playing lightly on the run line, although the Angels have been doing a decent job as underdogs in the past 7-10 days. However, the Halos cannot be trusted with Plesac on the bump.

In fact, the best bet here might be to back the DODGERS -1.5 (-140) FIRST 5 INNINGS, as they should be able to jump all over the veteran Plesac, who is making his 1st road start for the Angels.

Over/Under

OVER 8.5 (-110) is the play, as the high-octane Dodgers look to get back on track against a pitcher making just his 2nd start of the season. Plesac was atrocious on the road last season. Until he proves he has changed, you have to keep going against him as far as the total is concerned.

Be careful not to play this total too heavily, though, as the Dodgers have seen the Under cash at a 5-1 clip across the past 6 home games. However, the Over is 10-3 for the Angels across the previous 13 contests on the road.

The Dodgers (-185) are a little too expensive despite their dominance in this series. They’ve won 10 consecutive meetings in this series, and that was when Shohei Ohtani was playing for the Angels (+150). Now, he is on their side, too, playing his 1st game against his former mates.

Ohtani, by the way, enters this game with at least 1 RBI in 5 straight games, totaling 9 in the span.

While it looks good that the Dodgers will win an 11th straight in this series, Sandoval was the starting pitcher the last time the Angels won in this series on Aug. 6, 2021.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

The DODGERS -1.5 (+110) are a better play in this interleague series opener on the run line, although there is obviously some risk. Backing Knack, who has just 4 career starts, comes with some risk. He hasn’t appeared in the majors in over a calendar month, too.

However, the Angels +1.5 (-135) are going through it, again, struggling to generate offense, and facing a Dodgers team with the best run differential in the NL (+108) won’t help.

Over/Under

OVER 8.5 (-120) is a little on the pricey side, but a solid play in this battle.

The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 games for the Dodgers, with the home team playing at least 5 runs in 4 consecutive outings. The pitching staff has been knocked around for 24 runs in the past 4 tries, too, although all of those games were played in the rarefied air of Coors Field.

While the Under is 3-1-1 in the past 5 games for the Angels, the Over is a healthy 9-3 across the past 12 outings on the road.
