This week, an ESPN NFL Draft Analyst released his new 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

In his early projections for Round 1 (subscription required), ESPN’s Jordan Reid has Clemson junior cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. being taken by the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 18 overall pick.

“With Patrick Peterson and Bashaud Breeland on expiring contracts and 2020 third-rounder Cameron Dantzler still developing, Minnesota’s long-term outlook at cornerback looks bleak,” Reid wrote in the ESPN+ article. “In past early-round selections at the position, the Vikings’ front office has valued versatile cornerbacks who are also consistent run-defenders. Booth is one of the best in this class at both of those, and so he’d check the boxes that the regime has coveted.”

Booth entered 2021 having recorded 36 tackles (2.5 for loss) five pass breakups, two interceptions, a sack and a fumble recovery (which he returned 21 yards for a touchdown) in 400 defensive snaps over 24 games (four starts).

In eight games this season (eight starts), he is credited with 35 total tackles (three for loss) and a pass breakup.

Clemson has announced which players will be unavailable for today’s game against UConn, including two starters.

Offensive lineman Will Putnam, cornerback Andrew Booth, Jr. and safety Jalyn Phillips are among players that began the week on the depth chart that will not be available because of injuries, COVID-19 protocols or other undisclosed reasons.

The absence of Putnam, who will miss his second straight game because of an ankle injury, isn’t a surprise. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said early in the week that Putnam likely would not play. It puts Mason Trotter in line for his second straight start at right guard.

Clemson is likely being cautious with Booth after he suffered a “stinger” in the team’s 30-24 win over Louisville last Saturday.

This week, ESPN senior NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay released his ranking of the top 32 prospects for the 2022 class right now (subscription required).

Clemson junior cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. is ranked No. 22 on McShay’s list.

“Booth excels in press coverage and does a nice job of turning to locate the ball when running with a receiver,” McShay wrote. “His balance and quick feet are plus traits, and he has a smooth pedal off the line of scrimmage. But while his recognition skills are solid in zone looks, I think he overreacts to receivers’ initial moves at times in man coverage. Booth had a pair of interceptions in 2020 but has yet to haul one in during the 2021 season, despite a pair of pass breakups.”

In six games this season (six starts), Booth has tallied 30 total tackles, including two for loss.

The highlight-reel athletic corner entered 2021 credited with 36 tackles (2.5 for loss) five pass breakups, two interceptions, a sack and a fumble recovery (which he returned 21 yards for a touchdown) in 400 defensive snaps over 24 games (four starts).

Clemson junior cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. is projected as a top-10 pick in the latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft from this national outlet.

CBS Sports projects Booth to be taken by the New York Giants with the No. 6 overall pick in the first round.

“With the first of two picks, New York selects Andrew Booth Jr.,” CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards wrote in his mock draft for the outlet. “He may serve as depth initially, but his presence is important because if anything happens to either James Bradberry or Adoree Jackson, then the team mission does not fall off a cliff.”

Through five games this season, Booth ranks third on Clemson’s team with 26 total tackles. He has two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

The Dacula, Ga., native recorded five tackles (one for loss) and a pass breakup vs. No. 5 Georgia, sharing team defensive player of the week honors. He broke up a pass vs. SC State, was credited with six tackles vs. Georgia Tech, added another six tackles at NC State and recorded nine tackles (one for loss) vs. Boston College, sharing team defensive player of the game honors.

Where are Booth, Ross in Mel Kiper’s new NFL draft rankings?

ESPN senior NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. released his latest 2022 NFL draft rankings on Thursday. Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. is ranked on Kiper’s new 2022 big board as the No. 24 overall prospect after previously being ranked No. 19. “As …

“As I wrote in May, Booth was overshadowed nationally last season by Derion Kendrick, who is now at Georgia, but the tape showed something different,” Kiper wrote in his article (subscription required). “He was really, really good. If you’re looking just at his counting stats — two interceptions, four total pass breakups — you don’t see how he locked up wideouts. Quarterbacks rarely threw Booth’s way. That has been the same this season, as he doesn’t have the counting stats, but he is one of Clemson’s most important players.”

Kiper also released his best-by-position rankings and has Clemson’s Justyn Ross listed as the “10b” wide receiver behind Georgia’s George Pickens at “10a”.
