38 days till the Cardinals’ season opener against the Bills

The Cardinals’ current No. 38 is WR Daniel Arias. The last real impactful No. 38 was RB Andre Ellington.

The Arizona Cardinals will get back to practice on Thursday after a day off on Wednesday during training camp. We are a day closer to the start of the regular season. They will  play their preseason opener in nine days but it is 38 days away from their first game of the regular season, when they are on the road in Week 1 to face the Buffalo Bills.

Wide receiver Daniel Arias is the player currently on the roster wearing No. 38. He has yet to play in an NFL game, spending parts of last season on the Cardinals’ practice squad.

The last player to make even a reasonable impact and wear No. 38 for the Cardinals was running back Andre Ellington, who wore No. 38 from 2013-2017.

He was a sixth-round pick in 2013 and quickly became a playmaker. He had over 600 rushing yards in his first two seasons and over 1,000 scrimmage yards. Those first two seasons, head coach Bruce Arians realized he wanted to try and get the ball to Ellington 20 to 30 times a game.

Injuries plagued him and his effectiveness diminished after 2014. He had over 1,200 career rushing yards through his first two seasons and finished his career after five NFL seasons with 1,752.

But he was electric when he had the ball in his hands.

The countdown continues tomorrow.

The last 12 Clemson 1,000-yard seasons

Since 2000, Clemson has had 12 1,000-yard rushing seasons, two of which came from the ACC’s all-time leading rusher.

Fans often throw Clemson into conversations for the nickname “WRU” because of the program’s history of producing great wide receivers, but people shouldn’t discredit the Tigers’ ability to pump out game-changing running backs.

Since 2000, Clemson has had 12 1,000-yard seasons from eight different rushers, four of which did it two times a piece.

Among them is the ACC’s all-time leading rusher, Travis Etienne, who rushed for just under 5,000 yards in his four seasons at Clemson.

As for Etienne’s replacement, Will Shipley is likely the next player to surpass the three-digit mark, as he rushed for 739 yards as a freshman in 2021.

With the start of the 2022 season under two months away, Shipley will soon have his chance to earn a spot on this list, but for now, here are Clemson’s last 12 1,000-yard seasons.

Spiller, in no particular order, named his top five of running backs Travis Etienne, James Davis and Raymond Priester, quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Spiller also named quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Tajh Boyd, wide receivers Mike Williams and DeAndre Hopkins, and running Andre Ellington as honorable mentions.
